Although Valentine's Day mostly celebrates the love between couples, the holiday can also be for couples who aren't actually couples, too. At least, according to Drew Barrymore. In a roundtable discussion for her new partnership with Etsy as "chief gifting officer," the talk-show host speaks about situationships deserving a small little something this holiday — even if you have no intention of meeting each other's parents and your conversations don't go deeper than what kind of pizza to order.

"I don't think a gift ever hurts. If it's too much for that person, you just bought yourself a gift," Barrymore says. "It doesn't have to be big, but that gesture is also a nice invitation to say to someone, 'I do these things, and I'm welcoming this actionable thing in our dynamic.'"

"I don't think a gift ever hurts."

Coming from someone who famously celebrates her exes and zens out in personalized meditation rooms, this advice shouldn't be too surprising: the woman embodies what emotional maturity is. But let's be real, what do you actually gift your situationship this Valentine's Day? "The best gifts are something you want for yourself," Barrymore shares. "The one you don't really want to give, but you do because you know how good it is."

For Barrymore, that includes artwork, vintage floral towels, and personally inscribed pencils, which she said makes for the "perfect" Valentine's Day gifts. But really, anything personalized works. "You can get something very little and affordable, but personalize it," Barrymore says.

For more specific ideas for your situationship, you can try using Etsy's new Gift Mode, which asks questions like "Who are you shopping for?" "What's the occasion?" and "What are they into?" Etsy's trend expert Dayna Isom Johnson says, "All you need to do is answer a few questions about your situationship, and Gift Mode will surface amazing gift options that you can feel confident they'll love."

Whether you're enjoying keeping things casual or you want to take your situationship to the next level, a gift this Valentine's Day might be the way to do it. After all, Valentine's Day should be all about celebrating love across the board — for yourself, your partners, and your "I don't even know what to call it"s.
