Stephenie Meyer to Release New Twilight Saga Novella

Get ready to storm Barnes & Noble, Twi-hards: there's a brand-new book (sorry, novella) from Stephenie Meyer just around the corner. The best-selling author will release The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella on June 5, just in time for the release of the saga's third movie. If you're racking your brain trying to remember who this alleged Bree Tanner is, you're not alone — she's one of the newborn vampires who only gets 10 pages of attention in Eclipse before meeting her demise.

The whole idea seems a bit random to me, especially since our beloved heroes Edward and Bella probably won't be largely featured in the 192-page book. Apparently even Meyer hadn't been planning on it, saying,

I’m as surprised as anyone about this novella. When I began working on it in 2005, it was simply an exercise to help me examine the other side of Eclipse, which I was editing at the time. I thought it might end up as a short story that I could include on my website. Then, when work started on The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, I thought the Guide would be a good fit for my Bree story. However, the story grew longer than I anticipated, until it was too long to fit into the Guide.

Truth be told, I'll probably end up borrowing it from one of my friends at one point, but I don't see myself rushing out to get my hands on a copy of this little book. I'm sure it'll still be a huge money maker for Meyer though — are you excited about a new mini addition to the saga?

Stephenie Meyer Geeks Out With Her Mac on Oprah

Did you happen to catch Oprah's big exclusive interview with Twilight's Stephenie Meyer on Friday?

Did you happen to catch Oprah's big exclusive interview with Twilight's Stephenie Meyer on Friday? Since I'm gearing up for the New Moon premiere (this Friday!), I was excited to hear Meyer talk about the movie and was excited to learn any insider NM secrets before its big debut. Being a Mac-addict myself, I couldn't help but notice that Meyer is the proud owner of a 17-inch MacBook Pro — which by the way has a glossy screen, something I don't think I could get use to! What I would give to get a glimpse of her desktop, to see how she organizes all of her documents, and to see if there are any special vampire websites bookmarked in her browser!

Twilight Fans: Do You Care About the Victoria Recast?

The news that Rachelle Lefevre will be replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria in the third Twilight movie, Eclipse, was followed today by a bit of a debate over what happened — and why.

The news that Rachelle Lefevre will be replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria in the third Twilight movie, Eclipse, was followed today by a bit of a debate over what happened — and why. Lefevre claims she wanted to continue playing the role and expressed surprise and dismay at being recast. Meanwhile, Summit Entertainment has stated that Lefevre accepted another job that conflicted with the production schedule for Eclipse, so the filmmakers had to find someone else.

It's interesting to know that Lefevre would have gladly continued to play Victoria. Do you wish she could? Or will it probably not matter that someone else will be playing Victoria?

Summit Hires David Slade to Direct Eclipse

After the intense Hard Candy, starring Ellen Page, and the vampire thriller 30 Days of Night, director David Slade will soon add Eclipse to his résumé.

After the intense Hard Candy, starring Ellen Page, and the vampire thriller 30 Days of Night, director David Slade will soon add Eclipse to his résumé. Summit Entertainment announced today that Slade will direct the third installment of the Twilight saga, which is set to open June 30, 2010. In the press release, Summit's President of Production, Erik Feig, states:

Stephenie Meyer's Eclipse is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice. We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds. We cannot wait to see the Eclipse he brings to life and brings to the fans eagerly awaiting its arrival in summer of 2010.

30 Days of Night scared the living daylights out of me, so I'm guessing Slade's take on Eclipse will have less sparkle, more sheer terror. I'm actually excited to see what he does with the material. If nothing else, this should be interesting!
