2007 Teen Choice Awards: Announcing the Winners!

High School Musical, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and Justin Timberlake were among the big winners Sunday at the 2007 Teen Choice Awards.

High School Musical, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and Justin Timberlake were among the big winners Sunday at the 2007 Teen Choice Awards. More than 8.5 million votes were cast in categories ranging from the serious (Choice Movie Actor) to the silly (Choice Hottie).

One somewhat surprising favorite among the Teen Choice crowd? Steve Carell, oddly enough, who took home two surfboards: one for Choice Movie Scream for Evan Almighty and another for Choice TV Actor, Comedy for "The Office." Maybe these kids are alright after all.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Wit's End

There’s a beautiful scene in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End when Captain Jack Sparrow’s (Johnny Depp) ship turns upside down in the water. For one glorious moment, we see the upside down vessel suspended in the water right side up, as if the heavens were made of water and the ground were made of air. When it emerges from the sea, the ship’s contents and crew have been knocked about topsy-turvy. The narratively coherent version of the film must have been onboard, too, ending up as the beautiful and broken mess that is The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, the third installment in the wildly popular film franchise.

Clocking in at a ludicrous three hours, the movie's saddled with a confusing and over-stuffed plotline, causing the viewer to feel as lost as the pirates on their searches. If you can handle it, though, it may be worth feeling seasick with confusion in order to be dazzled by the film’s cinematography and fantastic performances, so read more

Sequels, Part 2

Sigh. I can rant all I want, it looks like sequels are still where it's at these days.

Sigh. I can rant all I want, it looks like sequels are still where it's at these days. There was the recent rumor about a possible Austin Powers 4, then there was news of a Wall Street 2, and now the sequel party rages on:

Soapbox: Enough With the Sequels Already!

Giddy from their record-breaking first weekend, the producers and studio execs behind Spider-Man 3 are falling over themselves with news and ideas for the next Spidey installments.

Giddy from their record-breaking first weekend, the producers and studio execs behind Spider-Man 3 are falling over themselves with news and ideas for the next Spidey installments. Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chair Amy Pascal is claiming that "There'll be a fourth and a fifth and sixth and a seventh," and that "As many stories as Peter Parker has to tell, we'll do sequels." There are already rumors flying around about the villains that will be included in Spidey's fourth chapter: According to Cinematical, Spider-Man will have to face off with a man-sized lizard (called Lizard) along with Carnage the serial killer.

Sure, this sounds intriguing, but I'm still exhausted from this year's Spider-Man movie and the relentless onslaught of promotion that led up to its release. After this year they'll probably have to up the ante even more in that regard, which is virtually unfathomable. Also riding the sequel train is the Shrek series, the fourth of which may have just found a director. So, there's already buzz around a fourth movie when the third hasn't even hit theaters yet. Take a breather, guys!

Summer Movie Preview: The Big Deals

Finally, May is upon us, and to me this means one thing: summer movie season begins!

Finally, May is upon us, and to me this means one thing: summer movie season begins! The season kicks off right this Friday with the release of Spider-Man 3. In honor of this, I present Part I of my Summer Movie Preview series, featuring this summer's big budget dazzlers. This year many filmmakers are playing it safe with super expensive sequels, and I can't deny that these Big Deal movies provide some great mega-tainment. Check out how the studios spent the big bucks for the summer, and stay tuned for parts 2 and 3 coming later this week.

Spider-Man 3
If the endless onslaught of marketing schemes has been successful, Spider-Man 3 will draw in the masses — and hopefully the revenue since it may be the most expensive movie ever made. This third installment of the web-slinger's series promises even more computer-generated superhero stunts, romantic tangles and grapplings between good and evil. Things are looking pretty good for Peter Parker as he goes to college and plans a wedding proposal to his lady love, Mary Jane. But trouble soon finds him in the form of the Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Harry Osborn/Goblin (James Franco), and Venom (Topher Grace). To make matters worse, Spidey is forced to deal with his own inner demons — ones that threaten to change his life for the worse.

'Pirates of the Caribbean : At World’s End' USB Drive

The flash drive market has to be the most entertaining genre in the tech world these days.

The flash drive market has to be the most entertaining genre in the tech world these days. Manufacturers are constantly trying to one up one another with colorful, blinging and outrageous drives, which at the end of the day, are simply for backing and transferring information.

A-DATA decided to get in on the game with a series of “Pirates of the Caribbean Flash Drives," which all have designs featuring Johnny Depp’s mysterious pirate figure and a golden exterior just like the pirate’s sword.

Disney has licensed a few other characters for flash drives recently, but given the Johnny Depp and Pirates craze, I'm guessing these bad boys are going to be a big hit with school age kids and Depp fans alike. If only they came with an eye patch.
