The Kings of Summer Trailer: Running Away From Home 101

While you may have threatened to run away from home as a kid, the upcoming indie comedy The Kings of Summer explores what happens when Joe Toy (Nick Robinson) actually does run away.

While you may have threatened to run away from home as a kid, the upcoming indie comedy The Kings of Summer explores what happens when Joe Toy (Nick Robinson) actually does run away. The independence-starved teenager wants to get away from his embarrassing dad (Parks and Recreation's Nick Offerman) to build his own house in the woods. With his own meddling parents to deal with (one of whom is played by Megan Mullally), Joe's best friend Patrick (Gabriel Basso) also agrees to join in, as does another kid, Biaggio (Moises Arias). While their parents consult with the local police, the trio fulfills their fantasy of living out in the wilderness.

The Kings of Summer (previously titled Toy's House) was a hit at the Sundance Film Festival, and I'm a sucker for a good coming-of-age story and already entranced by the whimsical plot. The movie opens on May 31, and you can watch the trailer when you read more.

Watch Jimmy Fallon, Nick Offerman, and The Chickeneers Cluck "Ho Hey"

So this is what happens when you get Jimmy Fallon, Nick Offerman, and Blake Shelton together right before Easter.

So this is what happens when you get Jimmy Fallon, Nick Offerman, and Blake Shelton together right before Easter. This week the trio (plus show editor Chris Tartaro on the drums) landed on the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon stage clad in yellow feathers and bawking to the tune of The Lumineers' hit song, "Ho Hey." Their stage name? The Chickeneers, naturally. I know it sounds silly, and it is, but it's also a wonderful and oddly sweet pick-me-up. I wonder if they're available for birthday parties.

Jessica Alba goofed around with her A.C.O.D. costar Amy Poehler during a portrait session, while Michael Polish and Kate Bosworth celebrated their project, Big Sur. Earlier in the week, Jessica Biel posed with Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes costars Alfred Molina, Kaya Scodelario, and director Francesca Gregorini at a party while Jake Gyllenhaal flew in to support his mom Naomi Foner's directorial debut, Very Good Girls. Watch Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, and Megan Mullally Use Bongs to Promote a Movie

Nick Offerman produced and stars in the upcoming film Somebody Up There Likes Me, and to promote the movie, he and his costars Alison Brie and Megan Mullally (also Offerman's real-life wife) shot a teaser in which they all smoke out of bongs. It gives absolutely no insight into what the movie is about (in which Offerman plays a divorced man), but it's obviously pretty funny to see the three TV stars having a high old time together.

Nick Offerman Says Ron Swanson Will Get a Love Interest on Parks and Recreation

Parks and Recreation may be on a break for the Summer, but star Nick Offerman still has a lot going on during the hiatus.

Parks and Recreation may be on a break for the Summer, but star Nick Offerman still has a lot going on during the hiatus. Between going blond and handling a few film projects, he's found time to represent Budweiser's "Grow One. Save a Million" campaign to conserve water for World Environment Day, which is today. The actor chatted with me about it, as well as his Parks and Rec costars and what's next for his character, the delightfully grumpy public servant Ron Swanson.

BuzzSugar: How is the dynamic going to change in the Parks and Rec department now that Leslie won't be working in the office?
Nick Offerman: Well, I'm really curious to see how that's going to change as well. I know they're going to have her working on the city council part-time and still working as the deputy director in the office part-time, and one thing that will be funny is that sometimes she'll be Ron's superior in the government, and then she'll come back and work underneath Ron in the office. So I'm sure that'll create some really great conflicts between the two of us.

Buzz: Do you think his relationship with Leslie is going to change a lot?
NO: I'm sure Ron will find himself in some situations where he's chewing on his mustache because he's frustrated with things that Leslie will make him do.

Buzz: What else are we going to see for Ron next season?
NO: Well, I heard a rumor that we might see some more of a romantic life for Ron. Whether that means a lady partner or perhaps a new source of meat or a firearm, I don't know, but there'll definitely be some new love in his life.

Nick Offerman (aka Ron Swanson) Explains Why He Went Blond

Nick Offerman, who plays Parks and Recreation's manly-man character, Ron Swanson, recently surprised people when he surfaced with a freshly-dyed head of blond hair over the hiatus.

Nick Offerman, who plays Parks and Recreation's manly-man character, Ron Swanson, recently surprised people when he surfaced with a freshly-dyed head of blond hair over the hiatus. Is it for a movie role? A long-held desire to be a towhead? I had a chance to chat with Offerman recently, so of course I asked why he made the hair change. Find out why Offerman went blond (I should have known it had to do with his funny-lady wife, Megan Mullally) and whether people still recognize him.

BuzzSugar: There are some photos of you that popped up recently with blond hair. Can you tell us about that?
Nick Offerman:
I felt like I wasn't having enough fun in my life, so I thought one easy remedy would be to become a blond, and it's working great; I've just been having a blast. It's really true that blonds have more fun. I honestly did it as a fun surprise for my wife; she thinks it's really funny, and we get a kick out of seeing me as a beautiful blond.

Buzz: Are people not recognizing you as much with this hair?
NO:
There's a little bit of that. Disappointingly, people are still managing to make me out in a crowd, so I'm not sure what I'm going to have to do to get fully disguised.

Buzz: Do you feel that you relate a little more to your costar Amy Poehler with the hair?
NO:
I do. I saw her last week and I feel like we could come across as siblings.

Check back for the rest of my chat with Offerman, where we discuss how Parks will be different next season with Leslie as an elected official, and what Ron's romantic future holds.

Parks and Recreation's Ron Swanson: 10 Fun Facts About the Man Behind the Mustache

On Parks and Recreation, Nick Offerman plays one of the show's most fascinating characters: Ron Swanson.

On Parks and Recreation, Nick Offerman plays one of the show's most fascinating characters: Ron Swanson. The curmudgeonly government official loves every kind of meat, barely tolerates people, and hates his same-named ex-wives. Over the course of three seasons, Offerman has managed to make Ron hilarious and surprisingly likable. He and series creator Mike Schur recently chatted with reporters about the upcoming season of the show, and Offerman revealed some details about himself that rival Ron's persona.

  1. He Has a Secret Love For Ballet
Offerman responded to a question about which of his own personality traits he wants Ron to adopt by saying, "I have a penchant for the ballet, and I’ve been pitching the fellows for the whole time we’ve been in production for a Ron Swan Lake episode."
  2. His Onscreen Ex Is His Real Wife
You may not know that Offerman is married to Parks and Recreation guest star Megan Mullally, who plays Ron's second wife, Tammy 2. He sang her praises, as well as Patricia Clarkson's, who will be on season four as his first wife, Tammy 1: "We’ve been incredibly fortunate with the selection of ladies that have graced our stage with their presence, talent, and beauty. I think what the audience will be surprised to learn is that Tammy 2, played by Megan Mullally, the gorgeous Megan Mullally, may turn out to be the most kitten-like, timid women of the Tammys. I am about as giggly as a schoolgirl to have landed in a position where I’m portraying a man who has made love to both Megan Mullally and Patricia Clarkson. That is a consummation devoutly to be wished."

Amy Poehler dressed up in green last night to attend a panel for her show Parks and Recreation at LA's Paley Center For Media. Rashida is back in California after a quick press tour in NYC to chat about life at the fictional Pawnee Parks Department with her fellow EW cover stars like Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, and Aubrey Plaza, who just nabbed another comedy role opposite Andy Samberg and Bill Hader. The gang revealed that Rob Lowe isn't going anywhere just yet despite rumors of him replacing Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men, and Adam Scott, who joined the show at the same time, will likely stick around too. Amy had a few words to say about the burgeoning romance between Adam's character Ben and her Leslie. Amy commented, "They're very evenly matched. Leslie's like a single mother and Pawnee is her kid. And if Ben starts to like my kid. . . I'll have sex with him." Aziz, meanwhile, shared about his ideal guest star: Usher. He said, "I secretly want Usher to play my brother. . . [with his entrance having him] drop down from the ceiling."
