Bill Nye Breaks Down a Mask Myth in Another TikTok PSA: "This Is Not Hard to Understand"

Bill Nye is bringing back his popular face mask TikTok PSAs once more, just in case people need another reminder of their importance. On Dec. 5, the go-to Science Guy reiterated the necessity of masks to curb the spread of COVID-19. He showed a map of the United States where people are wearing masks compared to another map that shows the rise of the virus. "I don't know who needs to hear this but . . . masks work," he captioned the video. "Wear one."

Nye also took the opportunity to dispel a myth that's been perpetuating about the effectiveness of masks. "There's a perception that a virus can travel through the fibers of a mask like this red dot," he said, using a colander and matchstick as an example. However, he explains that the virus can't travel by itself. Instead, it'll travel in droplets of spit or snot and get tangled in fibers, remaining trapped. "So please, everyone wear a mask," he concludes. Oh, and you can hear him just fine through it, too.
