Teyana Taylor has a highly anticipated movie release coming soon ("A Thousand and One"), several acclaimed albums, and legions of fans who obsessively watch her highly choreographed performances. But in fashion circles, she's celebrated for being a '90s style icon — and that aesthetic was on full display at Coachella 2023. She attended Nylon House on April 14, dressed in her signature retro-inspired wares: army-green cargo pants tucked inside heeled knee-high boots, with a stunning tan leather fringe jacket layered on top. Accessorizing with a lip ring, layered chokers, and dangling gold earrings, Taylor finished her look with a short haircut and glossy lips with a touch of brown liner.

When styling her nostalgic fashion outfits, Taylor references the adventurous dressers who came before her. "Lil Kim, Janet Jackson, Grace Jones, my moms Nikki Taylor," she tells POPSUGAR. "Each and every one of them were fearless in their own right and pushed the boundaries on what was considered the norm and played each look effortlessly in their own terms point-blank." But she just as often turns inward for inspiration. "It's a mood thing. I feel a vibe and go with it. I mean that's what I like to do. I get dressed for real, for real. Not on no cocky shit, but I'm from Harlem where every day is a movie."

Harlem informs her take on accessorizing as well. In the cultural oasis where Taylor grew up, it's not uncommon to see someone walking down the street in a bold, attention-grabbing outfit accented by hoop earrings, layered chains, and rings on each finger. Naturally, the "Wake Up Love" singer gravitates toward fun festival fashion accessories. "I love seeing tinsel in people's hair, it's a great accessory that can completely tie an outfit together," Taylor says. She adds: "Flower crowns had their moment, but we're onto new things."

Ahead of Nylon House, which featured a set by Diplo and welcomed guests like Jaden Smith, Taylor's accessory of choice was more functional in nature. "[Festival] days are long, so having a staple bag that fits everything is a must." Ahead, get a closer look at Taylor's outfit for Nylon House at Coachella, and find the '90s fashion trends she's enamored with right now.
