Trevor Noah Officially Says Goodbye to "The Daily Show": "It's Taught Me to Be Grateful"

Trevor Noah has officially bid goodbye to "The Daily Show." On Dec. 8, the 38-year-old late-night host wrapped up his time on the show after seven years. "Honestly, most importantly, I'm grateful for you. Every single one of you," Noah told the audience during his farewell episode. "This is random for some, but special shout-out to Black women. I've often been credited with having these grand ideas. People say, 'Oh Trevor, you're so smart.' I'm like, 'Who do you think teaches me? Who do you think shaped me, nourished me, and formed me?' From my mom, my grand[mom], my aunt, all these Black women in my life, but in America as well."

He continued: "I always tell people if you want to truly learn about America, talk to Black women, 'cause unlike everybody else, Black women can't afford to f*ck around and find out. Black people understand how hard it is when things go bad, especially in America."

In his parting thoughts, Noah shared some of the biggest lessons he's learned from his time on "The Daily Show." "When I thought about it, I realized there were three main lessons that I've learned in my time being privileged enough to host the show that you've been wonderful to watch. And the first lesson I learned is something that took me a long time to realize: issues are real, but politics are just an invented way to solve those issues. Don't ever forget that," he said.

Another lesson Noah learned: context is everything. He explained, "Never forget that context matters, and I'll never forget how much context matters. I feel like we live in an age of limitless information right now, but we never seem to acknowledge that there's a shortage of context." The third? Gratitude. "It's taught me to be grateful. Grateful for everything that I have that I don't even realize I have," he noted.

Even though Noah has signed off from "The Daily Show," he already has big plans for the future. Following his exit announcement on the Sept. 29 episode of his show, Noah stopped by "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" to discuss his departure from "The Daily Show" in depth.

"Why not?" Noah asked on Oct. 13 when Fallon questioned his decision to leave "The Daily Show." "People ask you this question as if you're telling them bad news, and I can understand that," he added. " . . . I think of this as a joyous thing. I lived through a crazy time; I shared it with people who were kind enough to share it with me. We lived through something, and what's on the other side? I don't take anything for granted anymore. I don't believe that life is a given. I don't assume that things will come to me. So I just go, 'This is it. This is time.'"

When asked what he plans to do next, Noah declared: "Everything." "I'm going to get drumming lessons from Quest[love]," he joked. " . . . I'm so excited to do everything. I didn't get to travel as much, doing stand-up around the world — I'm excited to do that . . . Producing, working behind the camera, working on different ideas. Going back home spending more time with family in South Africa. Everything is what I'm going to be doing."

As far as Noah's immediate plans go, he has a series of documentaries called "The Turning Point" releasing on MSNBC, all of which will highlight hot-button topics in the US — including climate change, reproductive rights, and the Jan. 6 Capitol riots. Per Deadline, the first episode of Noah's docuseries, "Shouting Down Midnight," premiered on Oct. 23, followed by "From Devil's Breath" — produced by Leonardo DiCaprio — and "Split Screen," which aired on Nov. 13 and Nov. 20, respectively.

On Oct. 20, Noah announced another project, this time a comedy special with Netflix titled "I Wish You Would," which hit the streamer on Nov. 22. The official trailer dropped on Nov. 16, and it shows Noah poking fun at the way US presidents speak.

And on Nov. 14, the comedian announced on social media his 28-city US stand-up tour titled "Off the Record," which kicks off in Atlanta on Jan. 20 and wraps in San Francisco on Dec. 3, 2023. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Noah will also take his tour overseas for international dates and locations that have not yet been announced.
