Love & Mercy Trailer: This Beach Boys Biopic Might Make You Cry

The Beach Boys have one of the most iconic sounds in American music, and a new movie is about to shed some light on how those sounds were created. Paul Dano and John Cusack play the band's founder, Brian Wilson, at very different stages in his life in Love & Mercy. (The title refers to Wilson's 1988 solo song.) Dano portrays young Wilson, full of life and hoping to create "the greatest album ever made." Flash-forward to the '80s and Cusack looks worn out and affected by mental-health issues that are made worse by substance abuse. The trailer actually makes the film seem less about the music and more about the love story between Wilson and his wife, Melinda Ledbetter (Elizabeth Banks). Scenes with the two of them coupled with The Beach Boys' 1966 hit "God Only Knows" might make you emotional, especially with Paul Giamatti starring as Wilson's controlling therapist. The movie opens June 5, along with a ton of other Summer releases.
