Kai Parker Is the Best Villain in The Vampire Diaries Franchise

How do I even begin to explain Kai Parker? The myth, the legend, the baddest villain of all in The Vampire Diaries franchise. The witch-turned-vampire (played by actor Chris Wood) first appeared on season six of the supernatural drama and made quite the impression. Though The CW franchise has seen its fair share of villains over the years — both on TVD and its spinoff shows The Originals and Legacies — Kai has always been the best, in my opinion. Sure, Klaus Mikaelson and Katherine Pearce are iconic characters, but even they had redeeming qualities. At the end of the day, Kai is a complete sociopath, which is both scary and wildly entertaining.

So, I'm super excited about his upcoming appearance on Legacies season two. After escaping a prison world, dying, coming back to life, and going back into a prison world, I can't wait to see what kind of drama he's going to stir up this time. As we patiently wait for his return, here are just a few reasons why he'll forever be the baddest villain in the TVD franchise.

Chris Wood Is Truly Brilliant

First and foremost, what makes Kai such a great character is Chris Wood. The actor manages to make Kai scary and lovable at the same time with just a simple facial expression. Wood's portrayal of the character is why Kai has such a huge fanbase in the first place.

One of the main reasons Kai is the best villain is because, unlike characters like Klaus and Katherine, he has never been a redeemable character. Though there was a slight change in his personality when he merged with Luke in season six of TVD, he always goes back to his villainous ways in the end. As creator Julie Plec puts it, Kai is "forever an irredeemable assh*le." His sociopathic tendencies make him incredibly unpredictable, but that much more entertaining to watch.

Despite his murderous tendencies, Kai also adds some comedic relief to the franchise. From his drunken karaoke sessions to to his witty one-liners, he always manages to make me chuckle whenever he's on screen. And don't even get me started on his hilarious facial expressions.

Kai's Powers Are Unlike Anything Else

Kai's Powers Are Unlike Anything Else

Let's be real, Kai's character really shook up The Vampire Diaries franchise when it comes to supernatural beings. Not only was the Gemini coven storyline incredibly fascinating and unexpected, but the fact that Kai was a siphon opened up a whole new door of possibilities for the world of magic, namely the introduction of heretics. Because Kai didn't have any magic of his own, when he turned into a vampire, he was able to defy the laws of nature and be a witch and a vampire at the same time. He was even able to heal a werewolf bite simply by siphoning the magic out of it. When Kai turned into a vampire in season six, it was truly a game changer for the entire TVD franchise.

Kai Pulled Off One of the Biggest Spells of All Time

In addition to being one of the most powerful supernatural beings of all time, Kai also pulled off one of the biggest spells of all time. OK, maybe not the biggest spell, but it certainly had a huge impact on TVD franchise. When Bonnie doubled-crossed Kai and left him in the 1903 prison world, Kai retaliated by putting Elena under a sleeping curse and linking her life to Bonnie's, meaning that Bonnie was forced to live out her life without her best friend. Though Bonnie was able to figure out how to reverse the spell by the end of the series, it certainly was one of the show's most memorable villainous moments.
