Mariah Carey Makes a Cameo in the Teaser For Empire Season 3

The countdown for Empire season three is on, people. While you've been busy scoping out the show's sexiest moments, we've been combing the internet for all the juicy details on the next season. We have the scoop on guest stars (hello, Mariah Carey!), plot lines, and the premiere date. Before the Summer gets any hotter, cool down with all the information we have about the third season so far.

We'll Be Seeing a Whole Lot More of Shyne Johnson

Rapper Xzibit was promoted to series regular for the third season. "Lucious has a long history with him — history that's going to come back and bite Lucious for a lot of earlier slights," executive producer Ilene Chaiken told Entertainment Weekly after the finale. "If you have a guy who's not afraid to die, not afraid to go to prison, that's a very dangerous adversary."

We'll Find Out Who Falls Early On

In an interview with Variety, Chaiken confirmed that we'll find out who falls over the balcony at the top of season three. "We talk about what would be the best and most delicious story to tell in the next season," she told TVLine. "But we love both of these characters and both of these actresses — and it's hard to think about losing either one of them. In this instance, there's no character motivation to consider: One of them is simply going to win the fight, and the other is likely to be gone. It's in the hands of the gods, and whoever survives is going to have quite a story."

Season 3 Will Evoke The Godfather

"We're going to set our stories in motion in a very dramatic way," Chaiken told Variety. "In the finale, we set the table for a challenge to Empire and the Lyon family that's going to serve as the framework for the whole of season three, with a Godfather-style opus of crime and hip hop that has Lucious as the beleaguered kingpin battling back this federal investigation led by a man with a personal grievance, and thug rappers who helped him to build his Empire and are now coming back for their pound of flesh."

Taye Diggs Is Just 1 Exciting Guest Star

Diggs has signed on for a recurring role as city councilman Angelo Dubois. Additionally, singer Sierra McClain, rapper French Montana, and music mogul Birdman are all set to guest star on the show.

Mariah Carey Is Coming!

Obviously, Mariah Carey gets her own slide. The star is set to appear on the new season as a singer named Kitty who teams up with Jamal (Jussie Smollett) to make sweet, sweet music.

The "Infinity" singer makes a special appearance in the teaser, released exclusively by Entertainment Weekly. The clip also teases the return of Shine (Xzibit) and Tariq (Morocco Omari).
