A pen pal friendship between a celebrity and a child strangely becomes of utmost importance to the general public in The Death and Life of John F. Donovan. The trailer was just released for the upcoming drama with an all-star cast of Kit Harington, Jacob Tremblay, Natalie Portman, Thandie Newton, Kathy Bates, and more. The film is the first English-language film from French Canadian arthouse director Xavier Dolan, who previously made waves with Mommy and Laurence Anyways.

By the looks of the trailer, Harrington portrays a celebrity much like himself — although with a more salacious personal life — and Tremblay portrays a young fan who harbors a secret pen pal correspondence with the actor. Over a decade passes and the no-longer-young fan (portrayed by Ben Schnetzer) still thinks about his pen pal as he ponders society's fascination with celebrity.

After several delays and a poor critical reception at the Toronto International Film Festival, it seems The Death and Life of John F. Donovan will be hitting theaters March 13, 2019. Watch the trailer above.
