Goodbye, Captain America: Chris Evans Announces His Departure From the MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will never be the same. On Thursday, Chris Evans announced on Twitter that he's officially done playing Captain America, the First Avenger. He's previously hinted at his decision to hang up the shield following the Infinity War movies, but now that it's confirmed, we can all collectively grieve. "Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor," Evans said in the tweet. "To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful."

A few fellow Hollywood stars, including Dwayne Johnson, weighed in on the news and expressed their gratitude for Evans's role in the MCU.

We thought Infinity War was heartbreaking, but now we know for a fact that the untitled Avengers 4 film is going to absolutely rip us to shreds. We definitely have to mentally prepare ourselves to see the fate of Steve Rogers when the film is released on May 3, 2019.
