Lena Headey Loves Being a Mom to Her Kids, Wylie and Teddy

Lena Headey loves being a mom. In November 2017, the "Game of Thrones" star told The Mirror that raising her two kids, Wylie and Teddy, has completely changed her perspective on life, and although being a mother is the "hardest job in the world," she says she wouldn't trade it for anything. "It means you're last to get a shower. If you get a facemask — winner. You'll never ever poo alone again. It's life-changing," she said about motherhood. "It means you come last in everything, in the nicest possible way."

Wylie is the son of Headey and ex-husband Peter Loughran, while the actor shares Teddy with ex-husband Dan Cadan. Both children currently live with their mother in Los Angeles. Over the years, the 49-year-old actor has only shared a few glimpses of her life as a mother with fans. In March 2015, Headey told More (via Us Weekly) that she doesn't share much about her personal life online in order to protect her family's privacy.

Since Headey rarely posts about Wylie and Teddy, here's everything she has shared about them so far.

Lena Headey's Son, Wylie

After Headey and Loughran got married in 2007, the pair welcomed their first and only child together — a son named Wylie — on March 31, 2010. According to E! News, the couple divorced in 2013 and they were involved in a messy custody battle over their son. In April 2021, TMZ reported a court granted Headey permission to have Wylie move from the UK to Los Angeles with her.

Based on Headey's Instagram posts of her son, it seems he enjoys being a big brother to his little sister, Teddy. He also appears to love spending time with his family outdoors and playing sports.

While she is mostly private when it comes to her kids, in July 2017, Headey opened up about experiencing postpartum depression following Wylie's birth. "I was postnatally depressed, but I didn't know it," she told Net-a-Porter. "I saw a doctor for the medical check, and I just burst into tears. She said I was postnatally depressed and I went, 'Am I? Why is that?'"

Although she was able to receive help, Headey admitted that juggling her life as an actor and first-time mother wasn't easy. "I saw a great guy and he sorted me out, but I did the first year [of 'Game of Thrones'] in that space, figuring out motherhood and going through a weird time personally," she said. "It was tricky."

While she may have chosen to pursue acting, Headey revealed she'll support her kids no matter what path they take later in life. "What I want for my children is for them to be kind and conscious and happy and that's it, really," she said. "I don't want them to think, 'You have to achieve that in order to have that,' because that's not true anymore."

Lena Headey's Daughter, Teddy

On July 10, 2015, Headey and Cadan welcomed their daughter Teddy. The "Fighting With My Family" star announced Teddy's arrival on Twitter. "Hello peeps. All good. Just fallen in unconditional heartbreaking divine love for the second time," she wrote at the time.

Just weeks before giving birth, Headey revealed she was pregnant again in a guest blog post for Plan International USA (via People). In her essay, which Headey penned to raise awareness for the Because I Am a Girl project, Headey said she'll raise her daughter to have "freedom of choice" in every aspect of her life. "She will be free to dance, to sing, to be educated in the fields that spark her passion, to marry if she wants, to marry WHO she wants, to remain single, or to fall in love with another woman," she wrote. "She'll be able to wear what she wants, put on lipstick, and read books that spark debate and expand her mind."

Since then, Headey has continued to empower her daughter in every way she can. For example, in honor of International Women's Day in 2021, Headey dedicated a sweet Instagram post to Teddy, in which she called her a "glorious tiny woman." She also described her daughter as "stubborn and tenacious, opinionated and funny, kind and curious, intuitive and observant," and said she "loves her people ferociously."

"May you always run with wolves and howl at the moon and cast whatever spells you desire," Headey added. "Though we battle DAILY (because you know everything and you're always right) I love you beyond words."
