Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors Celebrate Angela Bassett at the Oscars: "We Love You"

Angela Bassett may not be an Oscar winner in the eyes of the Academy this year, but she's still a reigning acting queen to us. Despite losing the best actress in a supporting role trophy to Jamie Lee Curtis's performance in "Everything Everywhere All at Once," the 64-year-old "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" star still had a reason to celebrate Sunday night as a history-making nominee for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and her peers didn't hesitate to give her her flowers.

While presenting the award for best cinematography, "Creed III" star Michael B. Jordan gave a quick nod toward the Oscar nominee sitting in the front row of the audience and told her, "Hey Auntie" — a reference to the line his "Black Panther" character, Killmonger, delivers to her Queen Ramonda in the first Marvel movie. Meanwhile, his costar Jonathan Majors, who also presented, told Bassett, "We love you."

Bassett was accompanied by her husband and fellow actor, Courtney B. Vance, and their two fraternal twins, daughter Bronwyn and son Slater, 17, at this year's Oscars ceremony. In the weeks leading up to the big night, Vance advocated for his wife's potential win, telling People at the 2023 American Black Film Festival Honors, "It's been 29 years, she's overdue and I think everybody recognizes that." He also told The Root of what would've been his wife's first-ever Academy Award, "I've been waiting on this moment, and I told her, 'It's coming. It's gon' be here and God's gonna orchestrate it so that when it's done everybody's gon' lift you up.'"

Bassett's latest honor would've joined her 2023 winning streak, which includes trophies from the Golden Globes, Critics' Choice Awards, NAACP Image Awards, AAFCA Awards, and many others. She was last honored by the Academy in 1994 for her mind-blowing portrayal of Tina Turner in the "What's Love Got to Do With It" biopic. She was nominated for best actress in a leading role but lost to Holly Hunter, who starred in 1993's "The Piano."

Speaking to "CBS Mornings"'s Gayle King on March 3, Bassett reflected on her latest Oscar nomination and her first loss, revealing that she actually didn't feel robbed of the best actress award. "I choose to believe that there's a reason why it didn't happen," she said. "In the moment . . . you're hoping, and praying, and wishing, but I don't walk away thinking 'I've been robbed. That's too negative of an emotion to carry with me for the rest of my life."
