The $10 Mascara Behind Saweetie's MTV VMAs Makeup

Saweetie stepped out at the 2023 MTV VMAs on Sept. 12 in not one but two head-turning ensembles and corresponding beauty looks. After kicking off the night in a sleek ponytail, pink Flintstones-inspired dress, and chrome french tips, she emerged later in an entirely new corset dress with blue crystal nails and a larger-than-life bow made out of hair sitting at the top of her head. The only thing that seemingly didn't change too much was her makeup.

Saweetie's makeup artist, Kenya Alexis, created a stunning makeup look to complement both of her outfits. "Today's inspiration for Saweetie's look was a soft glam with a gorgeous baby pink eyeshadow look," she said in a press release. Though her lips had a high-shine finish bright enough to be seen from the stage, the stars of the show were her smoky eyes and bold, fluttery lashes. And as it turns out, it was all thanks to the $10 Maybelline The Falsies Surreal Extensions Mascara.

Alexis prepped Saweetie's skin with the Kubra Kay Skincare Shea Butter Cream before going in with exclusively drugstore makeup products. The artist used the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Stix in the shades I Am Determined and I Am Shining on the rapper's lids and the Maybelline Tattoo Studio 36HR Wear Brow Styling Gel to brush up her brow hair. For skin, the Maybelline Super Stay 24HR Skin Tint in shades 322 and 312 was responsible for her smooth, flawless base. Lastly, Saweetie's lips were coated in the Maybelline Lifter Gloss in the shades Opal and Pearl. Proving that you don't need to spend a ton of money to create an award-worthy makeup look, every product on the singer's face cost $25 or less.
