Olivia Wilde's "Marinated" Makeup Is "Indie Sleaze" Done Right

Olivia Wilde is ready for the "indie sleaze" resurgence. On Dec. 6, the director attended the People's Choice Awards where she received the drama movie of 2022 award for "Don't Worry Darling." Though her sheer Dior lace dress garnered quite a bit of attention, her "marinated" makeup deserves its own moment.

The star of Wilde's glam was her smudged eyeliner — a key trait of the makeup trend. In addition to her defined eyes, her skin was glowy and looked lived in, or "marinated." Wilde also opted for plump, hydrated-looking lips but kept them free of any additional color. Additionally, her hair was styled into loose curls to complete the look.

"Marinated" or "Tumblr" makeup comes hot on the heels of a goth-beauty resurgence. "Black glam" nails saw a surge in popularity earlier this summer after Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker's edgy wedding, and Jenna Ortega's rendition of Wednesday Addams in Netflix's "Wednesday" has caused massive interest in moody, deep lip colors thanks to the purple hue in the series. "Marinated" makeup can look different based on your personal beauty preferences, but if you're looking for an easy way to dip your toes into the trend, playing up your everyday eyeliner is one of the easiest ways to do so. Take a closer look at Wilde's makeup below.
