Miley Cyrus Almost Went Brunette — Until Dolly Parton Disapproved

Miley Cyrus would've undergone a major hair transformation if not for Dolly Parton. During a "Today" show interview on Dec. 29, Cyrus said she thought about going brunette before New Year's Eve until her godmother expressed disapproval.

"I've never seen Dolly actually scared before," Cyrus recalled to Hoda Kotb of Parton's reaction to the potential hair change. "She acted like I told her the worst news you can imagine. She clutched her pearls, gasped, and went back and she goes, 'You can't do that. You are me.'"

Parton and Cyrus have a wholesome relationship that was first put on display in 2006 when Parton joined the cast of "Hannah Montana" to portray Cyrus's onscreen godmother. Since then, the duo has performed together on several occasions, and they'll continue their legacy while cohosting Miley's New Year's Eve Party on Dec. 31. They announced their joint gig in an Instagram post in November, bringing Cyrus's look into Parton's purview, at least until the clock strikes 2023.

"I am somehow some extension of Dolly Parton, so I will be blond," Cyrus confirmed on "Today." But deep down, she knows the country icon would love performing with her even if she was brunette. "[Dolly] says, 'You be you, I be me, and together we've got the perfect show,'"she said.

Although the "Party in the USA" singer was swayed by Parton's opinion this time, her beauty choices in the past have been fearless. From her mullet haircut to her many tiny tattoos, we're confident that whatever look the musician rocks to celebrate New Year's Eve will be one for the books.
