If you thought you could avoid the allure of the forthcoming MAC x Star Trek collection, resistance is futile; it's simply too lovely not to buy.

The collection is inspired by the iconic sci-fi series and set to debut just in time for Star Trek's 50th anniversary. The 25-piece offering is stunning enough to make even the most emotionally repressed Vulcan smile. Expect everything from false lashes and pressed pigment shadows to shimmery highlighters and glittery glosses (ranging from $14 to $34). Everything will be available online Aug. 25 and at MAC stores on Sept. 1, so you can bring a whole new arsenal of beauty products back to your starship.

I was lucky enough to get a Trekkie makeover from one of MAC's senior artists while I was at Comic-Con International, and I can personally verify that it's out-of-this-world gorgeous. For the duration of the makeover, we escaped the San Diego humidity in an impressive replica of the USS Enterprise (complete with transporters and Starfleet crewmembers!). Surrounded by shiny, yet-to-be-released products, I felt like I was entering the "final frontier" of the beauty world. I knew that the artist had done a great job on my makeup when the exceptionally chic Seven of Nine walked over, gave an approving nod, and reported that the look was "highly satisfactory."

While I wouldn't even attempt to replicate the chic poison-green and futuristic-silver eye look that my assigned artist created for me, I certainly learned plenty about the limited-edition offerings from her. Many of her tips were ones that I've been able to use when experimenting with the line at home (which has, admittedly, been a pretty frequent occurrence since samples arrived at my desk). One of the most useful pointers is that the jewel-toned eye-shadows can be applied wet for an extravibrant hue, and even used with an eyeliner brush to create vivid streaks of color. I also learned that swiping a thin line of silver liquid liner directly above a bold, black winged liner not only looks futuristic, but also covers up any bumps or imperfections in the black liner itself.

Other fun pointers regarding the Star Trek collection are ones that I've picked up through trial and error in my own cosmetic experiments. For instance, the galaxy-inspired Trip the Light Fantastic Pressed Powder is perfect for highlighting not only cheekbones, but also the inner corners of your eyes and the cupid's bow of your upper lip. The pressed pigment eye shadows can act as matte lipsticks when patted on top of lip primer and moisturizing balm. As a fan of blue lipstick, I love doing this with the Midnight shade.

If I was forced to pick only three key products, I'd opt for the Luna Luster Highlighter, Where No Man Has Gone Before lipstick, and Nocturnal Liquid Eyeliner. The subtle glow of the highlighter and shimmery peach lipstick are perfect when paired with a bold silver eye look that transitions from day to night.

So set your face to stun with the MAC x Star Trek 50th anniversary line ā€” with it, you'll look prepared to boldly go where no man (or woman) has gone before. Not to mention that the bold, intergalactic colors are arriving just in time for Halloween preparations, providing a little extra motivation to invest in your favorite products from the line. Now, live long and prosper contour!
