Cardi B Shares Rare Photos of Her Hair-Care Journey Over the Years: "This Is Me"

After decades of maintaining a regimented hair-care routine, Cardi B is ready to share her progress. On Aug. 9, the rapper shared a look back at her natural hair during her childhood, her adolescence, and into adulthood. Crediting her homemade avocado hair mask, Cardi demonstrated the different stages of her hair growth, which has culminated in waist-length curls. What began as a journey to grow out her natural hair, however, has since turned into an ongoing mission to keep her hair as healthy as possible.

"The facts are you need hair products and good care that works for you."

"This is me as a child.. this is me as a teenager.. this is me in my early 20's…and NOW," she wrote on Twitter. "Everyone wants to blame my hair growing on genetics but where was the genetics when I was in school?? The facts are you need hair products and good care that works for you to maintain it and keep it healthy.. sometimes it's not even just about growth it's about keeping it HEALTHY and the growth comes."

Cardi — who's been publicly documenting her hair-care journey since 2016 — achieved her long, glossy look by using a homemade hair mask made of avocado, eggs, banana, mayonnaise, argan oil, olive oil, black castor oil, and honey. According to Cardi, the mixture helps add definition to natural curls.

Responding to one Twitter user who asked for her hair-care secret, Cardi also claimed she uses onion water to help with hair growth. "My last two washes I been boiling onions and using the water to wash my hair," she captioned an Instagram post in August 2022. "I used to do this six years ago when I started my healthy hair growth journey. I stopped cause I got really lazy. It's odorless and I notice that it's been giving a shine to my hair."

In another tweet, Cardi revealed that she's come up with a new homemade hair-care product that she may soon share with fans. "I been also trying something new on me and my daughters hair ……I been trying it for four months and I see some improvements….I might do a video about it."

It feels like only a matter of time until the rapper drops an entire hair-care collection. Until then, see photos of Cardi's hair-care journey above.
