Editors' Picks: Entertainment Must Haves For May

It's official: Summer blockbuster season has arrived! There are so many highly anticipated movies coming out in the next few months, and May is starting off with a bang. Avengers: Age of Ultron is poised to be one of the biggest movies of the Summer, we get to see George Clooney in a Disney movie, and San Andreas is going to rock our worlds — hopefully not literally. Meanwhile, TV finales are rolling out all month long. It's sad to say goodbye to our favorite shows, but May Sweeps is when the juiciest episodes come out. Check out all our entertainment picks ahead!

Avengers: Age of Ultron

You don't have to be a die-hard Marvel fan to get excited about the latest Avengers movie. Studs Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth will be in the same place again, battling alongside the rest of their (equally sexy) team. This time, the villain is an advanced network of artificial intelligence hell-bent on destroying the human race. The movie is full of unbelievable action sequences and more humor than ever. It's out in theaters now!

Wilder Mind by Mumford & Sons
Universal Pictures

Wilder Mind by Mumford & Sons

Much has been made of the lack of banjos on Mumford & Sons' new album, but the sound of already released singles like "Believe" isn't so much a new sound — it's just a great one. There's still soul and power behind the songs of Marcus Mumford and co., so we'll be listening to the whole album on May 4.

Hot Pursuit

Hot Pursuit

Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara are comedic forces in their own right, and in this month's comedy Hot Pursuit, they team up for the best kind of odd-couple pairing. Better yet, these two strong women are buoying a trend we've been embracing with open arms: the female buddy comedy. Watch Vergara face off with Witherspoon on May 8.

Cannes Film Festival

Hollywood's most glamorous event of the year takes place an ocean away from Los Angeles, at the Cannes Film Festival, in the so-picturesque-it-hurts South of France. This year's celebration of cinema, from May 13-24, easily has one of its most star-laden lineups in years. Natalie Portman will be making her directorial debut with A Tale of Love and Darkness, and Matthew McConaughey, Emma Stone, Cate Blanchett, and Michael Fassbender are just a few of the actors who have films in the official lineup. I'll be part of our POPSUGAR team on the scene covering all the premieres, parties, and news to emerge from the French Riviera. It's a tough job, but . . . you know the rest.

Mad Max: Fury Road
Warner Bros.

Mad Max: Fury Road

There's only one word to describe how Mad Max: Fury Road looks, and it's "bonkers." Tom Hardy is stepping into the role that Mel Gibson originated, only this time, things are even more insane. The pictures are shocking enough, but the action in the trailer is unbelievable. Come May 15, we'll get to see Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult take on the villains of the futuristic desert.

Pitch Perfect 2
Universal Pictures

Pitch Perfect 2

We will finally be reunited with the Barden Bellas on May 15, when Pitch Perfect 2 comes out, and we fully expect to be treated to more laughs than ever and new songs to be obsessed with (or old songs they cover that we can be newly obsessed with). The trailers have been making us excited for the second movie so far, plus we can't wait to see what new blood like Hailee Steinfeld can bring.

Mad Men Series Finale
AMC

Mad Men Series Finale

We've spent seven seasons and eight years getting to know Don Draper, and on May 17, we'll have to say goodbye. Matthew Weiner's stylistic drama is ending, which means the ever-revolving doors of the ad agency will close for good. How will the series end? Will Don make it out alive? Will Peggy and Joan find happiness? Will anyone find happiness? We have so many questions and only a few episodes left to have them answered.

David Letterman's Last Night
CBS

David Letterman's Last Night

It's the end of an era! David Letterman has been having some very high-profile guests on the show over the past few weeks to bid him adieu, but his finale show will probably be an extravaganza of celebrities paying their respects to one of the most iconic men in late-night television. Tune in on May 20 to see his last broadcast, and get preemptively excited for Stephen Colbert to take over in September!

Tomorrowland
Disney

Tomorrowland

Part of the excitement surrounding Disney's Tomorrowland is due to the complete lack of details we had about the film for so long. George Clooney and Britt Robertson are the stars, but it took several trailers to get a good look at the titular world, inspired by the area in Disney parks. It'll be out on May 22, and you can bet the 3D is going to be out of this world. (See what we did there?)

TV Finales (and Some Premieres!)
The CW

TV Finales (and Some Premieres!)

Brace yourselves, TV fans: lots of your favorite shows are coming to an end in May — for the season, that is. Of course, even though these are just season finales, momentous things are certain to happen — like how Nina Dobrev will be leaving The Vampire Diaries for good. But as one TV door closes, many open — Netflix's new series Grace and Frankie premieres on May 8, Wayward Pines premieres on Fox on May 14, Aquarius makes its debut on May 28, while Beauty and the Beast comes back on May 21, and Halt and Catch Fire returns on May 31. And you thought you might actually go outside.

San Andreas
Warner Bros.

San Andreas

It doesn't matter if Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is comically learning the ins and outs of parenthood or saving his family from a gigantic earthquake that tears apart the state of California; the man is infinitely watchable. On May 29, it's the latter situation, as he needs to keep his estranged wife (Carla Gugino) and daughter (Alexandra Daddario) safe from the wreckage of a massive quake. The trailer alone will make you anxious, so prepare to sweat even more in the theater.

Aloha
20th Century Studios

Aloha

Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, John Krasinski, and director Cameron Crowe? How could romantic comedy Aloha be anything but wonderful? Despite some bad press thanks to last year's leaked Sony emails, the charming trailer has us hopeful for a refreshing comedy. We'll find out on May 29.
