First Look: The Tudors Season Three

There's a lot to like about this promo for the third season of Showtime's The Tudors, but the music is absolutely cracking me up.

There's a lot to like about this promo for the third season of Showtime's The Tudors, but the music is absolutely cracking me up. The promo shows scenes of Jonathan Rhys Meyers's Henry VIII and his many wives, all set to the sound of . . . Queen's "I Want It All." Would Henry have been into stadium rock if only it had existed in the Tudor era? How funny is it to have a show about a king with promo music by Queen? Am I just entirely too entertained by this? (Yes.)

Anyway, this spot for the third season — which will be eight episodes long and is set to kick off April 5 — shows the war, romance, and killer costumes we've become accustomed to from the series. This third season will cover Henry's third and fourth wives, including the lovely Joss Stone as Anne of Cleves. This is around the time the historical Henry would have been getting fat and unattractive, but don't worry — JRM won't be going down that particular path.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers Heats Up The Tudors Again

Jonathan Rhys Meyers was a spunky and handsome addition to yesterday's Showtime TCA event to meander through the next season of The Tudors.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers was a spunky and handsome addition to yesterday's Showtime TCA event to meander through the next season of The Tudors. While Buzz has the info about his relationship with Joss Stone plus other tidbits from the day's panels, here's what Jonathan had to say about playing the famous character and what sex scenes are like:

  • On whether he'll gain weight like Henry VIII: "No. I’m not going to turn into the Holbein painting. . . I played it my way. I could have put on the red hair and gained the weight but it’s already done. I’m not that guy. This is not that show. . . We wanted to make something with the exciting backdrop but it's entertainment, it’s television. . .We have to play with history a little bit. I had to play him my way."
  • On love then vs. now: "Marriage was a commercial venture rather than a love thing. You married and you had children because children brought you heirs and security for your legacy. . . Usually they were arranged for commercial, political and state value and occasionally a love match was found."
  • On being comfortable with his love scenes: "Very comfortable. There are worse things you could do with yourself on a rainy Tuesday morning in Dublin than hop in bed with [these ladies]."

Celebs Party In Style After the Golden Globes

After the trophies were handed out last night, the fun was just getting started at the Beverly Hilton.

After the trophies were handed out last night, the fun was just getting started at the Beverly Hilton. In Style and Warner Bros threw a bash that brought out big names from the night and a bunch of other stars that skipped the awards portion of the evening. Never one to miss a party in one of her family's hotels, Paris Hilton got a chance to show off her style, while Elizabeth Banks met up with her former costar Sarah Chalke. Gal pals Heidi Klum, Eva Longoria, and Kate Beckinsale caught up and shared a laugh while Emile Hirsch took the opportunity to show off his mustache to Molly Sims. Blake Lively had her fellow Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen in the house, and Leo looked happy to unwind with a drink after the long ceremony with Alan Horn, the President & COO of Warner Bros. It was just one of the many star-studded parties of last night, so be sure to stay tuned for more and don't forget to check out all of our awesome Golden Globes coverage!

Kate Beckinsale looked stunning in white this weekend at the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation fundraiser in London. She was joined by Hugh Grant, Benicio Del Toro, Stella McCartney, Kevin Spacey, and more in support of the charity that helps raise money to help fight cancer in young children. The formal event held at the Stud House at Hampton Court Palace also included adorable Orlando who was clearly turned on by his girlfriend Miranda's very sexy dress. Always the activist, Bono was there with his good friend Mary J. Blige who glittered in gold. Kate looked flawless and her hot husband Len helped her stand out even more since he is a perfect accessory (and how can you not love watching these two so in love?).

TV Tonight: The Tudors

For those of us disappointed with the recent film adaptation of stories from King Henry VIII's court, tonight's second-season premiere of Showtime's bodice-ripping soap The Tudors offers plenty of satisfying drama and intrigue.

For those of us disappointed with the recent film adaptation of stories from King Henry VIII's court, tonight's second-season premiere of Showtime's bodice-ripping soap The Tudors offers plenty of satisfying drama and intrigue.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers returns as the young brooding King of England who wastes no time in tonight's first episode getting to the good stuff: greasing the wheels to divorce the queen in order to make room for the very ambitious Anne Boleyn. This season the historical period known as the Reformation is ushered in, as Henry looks to break from the Catholic church and faces resistance from his own court — not to mention Pope Paul III, played by the wonderfully chilling Peter O'Toole.

While the dry and sometimes yawn-inducing dialogue from season one remains, this time around there is less talk and more action, as King Henry tears his country apart in a quest for supreme power and (of course) the right to make Anne his queen. And yes, the series' signature hot and heavy love scenes are back — and wow. If you're already a fan of this show, the second season brings back everything you expect and more. If you're just learning about it now, tonight's episode is as good a place as any to start if you want to give it a try. (In case you don't have Showtime, you can also watch the episode online.)

Are you excited for the return of the steamiest series on cable? For now, you can check out a funny pseudo-remix video of many of the Rhys Meyers-as-king scenes if you just read more

Watch the Season Premiere of The Tudors — Right Now!

Reading The Other Boleyn Girl for the Buzz Book Club last month has gotten me thinking more about Showtime's The Tudors.

Reading The Other Boleyn Girl for the Buzz Book Club last month has gotten me thinking more about Showtime's The Tudors. The show, which stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers as a young, handsome King Henry VIII, starts its second season March 30 — but you don't have to wait. In fact, you can watch the season premiere of The Tudors right here, right now.

The second season picks up at a particularly key time in the story: Henry is struggling against the Catholic Church to get his marriage to Queen Katherine annulled, and at Anne's insistence, the Queen is to be banished from court. Having been so absorbed in the book's take on this turn of events, I'm curious to see how the show tackles the same part of the story.

Luckily, I don't have to wait — and neither do you. To check out the first episode of the season, just read more

Do, Dump, or Marry?

We've been hearing a lot about Jonathan Rhys Meyers these days.

We've been hearing a lot about Jonathan Rhys Meyers these days. First, his mother unfortunately passed away, and then he was arrested at the Dublin airport for public drunkenness. Even though he clearly has some baggage, I'm a sucker for a good looking charming man with an accent. Since it's pretty clear that I would do him, tell me ladies, would you want to do, dump or marry Jonathan Rhys Meyers?
