Tonight, Women in Film held its sixth annual pre-Oscars event honoring females in the movie industry at LA restaurant Fig & Olive. Last year's best supporting actress winner, Octavia Spencer, played cohost for the event, and two of her costars from The Help were also in attendance. Viola Davis walked the red carpet with her husband, while Jessica Chastain made a late arrival to the soiree after fighting LA traffic. The event, sponsored by MAC, Max Mara, and Perrier-Jouet, honors women who are recognized for their work both in front of — and behind — the camera.
Of course, men were welcome at the bash, as well. Director David O. Russell, whose film Silver Linings Playbook is up for best picture on Sunday, attended. So did Daniel Radcliffe, who chatted up Jessica inside the party. Beyond Jessica, several of this year's female Oscar nominees were also in attendance, including best supporting actress nominee Jacki Weaver. Jacki told us her husband is working and won't be able to be her date for the Oscars, so he's throwing a viewing party at their apartment in Sydney for friends and family instead. Even though the time difference means they'll be watching the festivites around lunchtime, she told us tuxedos will be required! The Sundance Film Festival is coming to an end on Sunday with Ashton Kutcher's jOBS premiere closing out the festival tonight, but there's already been plenty of action. Jessica Alba goofed around with her A.C.O.D. costar Amy Poehler during a portrait session, while Michael Polish and Kate Bosworth celebrated their project, Big Sur. To celebrate Daniel Radcliffe's birthday today, let's take a look at the 23-year-old's life by the numbers. The last two Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows films proved to be a box office behemoth — they brought in about $2.3 billion, and they are the two most lucrative Harry Potter movies. That's more than enough to cover the salary of star Daniel Radcliffe, and he was paid a nice chunk of change for his final portrayal of Harry. Take a stab at guessing how much he made for the role.
The Harry Potter movies may be over, but Harry, or at least Daniel Radcliffe, the man behind the wizard, isn't going anywhere. Daniel just signed on to his first romantic comedy, F Word, and he has several more films in the works for release in the next two years. Celebrating his "golden birthday" this year — turning 23 on July 23 — Daniel is a man of many talents, but even after all his big success and popularity, he seems like a generally normal, down-to-earth guy. And he just keeps getting better and better, as the self-deprecating Daniel told Parade he's bad at dating and that his girlfriend, Rosie Coker, still loves him despite his awkwardness.
"There are lots of times when I'm a very good boyfriend, but there are times when I'm useless. I mean, I'm a mess around the house. I talk nonstop. I become obsessed with things (fantasy football, most recently). And she listens to it, and she loves me for my oddness, my awkwardness — all of those things that I hate about myself."
