What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday

All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays. So each week in What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday, I sort through the best of the batch and tell you what to add to your queue. In addition to my selections below you can also add Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Fanboys to your queue.

Valkyrie
In Bryan Singer's Valkyrie, Tom Cruise stars as Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, a German officer who leads the plot to kill Hitler. The story is one of those "little known" historical gems that's full of intrigue and political coups. A fantastic cast (including Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, and Tom Wilkinson) surrounds Cruise, lending some serious acting cred to the production.

Special features include audio commentary by Tom Cruise, Bryan Singer and co-writer/producer Christopher McQuarrie, and The Valkyrie Legacy Documentary.

True Blood: Season One
If you don't have HBO but are dying to get a look at one of the cable channel's most talked-about new series, now's your chance! Plus, you have plenty of time to catch up with the show before the new season starts on June 14th. Created by Six Feet Under's Alan Ball, the show follows the trials and tribulations of one Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a mind-reading Louisiana waitress who falls for a vampire named Bill (Stephen Moyer). This gothic series quickly grew on me and now I'm addicted.

Special features include In Focus: Vampires in America a mockumentary about vampires in the U.S.A., both pro- and anti- vampire-rights public service announcements, and six audio commentaries with cast and crew, including Alan Ball, Anna Paquin, and Stephen Moyer.

Friday Night Lights: Season Three
Season three ended just a little while ago and now, here it is on DVD! The third season was so good that I've already started thinking about next season. If it's been a while since you have spent some time with the gang from Dillon, TX I recommend you get reacquainted.

Special features include deleted scenes (like 13 minutes of a lost storyline from the emotionally charged climactic finale), and audio commentary.

Katie Holmes Debuts New Luxurious Long Hair!

Katie Holmes wowed the audience arriving at Tom Cruise's Japan premiere of Valkyrie today with gorgeous long hair! Katie has been wearing her chic short haircut for a little under two years, and it's such a surprise to see her with long locks again. Recently, it appeared that Katie was starting to grow it out again after her shortest look last Fall, but here she looks just fantastic -vibrant and young, smiling like the Katie we fell in love with. While we may miss her mother-daughter matching dos with Suri, the 2-year-old is a bit young for extensions. The Cruises arrived in Japan over the weekend, and we know at least one way Katie has been spending her time. So what do you think - are you loving the return of her long hair?

Tom Cruise's Valkyrie Promoting Is Neverending

Tom Cruise headed to a photo call for Valkyrie in Tokyo earlier today after arriving in Japan with the girls on Sunday. Suri and Katie are getting their fill of international travels as Tom continues to plug the movie, but their next trip may be a bit more low-key. Apparently the Cruises are planning to take a big camping trip once they're back in the states, which sounds like a fun break from their jet-setting lifestyle.

Katie Brings Her Dress of Many Colors to Tom's Rio Premiere

Katie Holmes was a gorgeous splash of color on Tom's arm at the premiere of Valkyrie in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last night. After a relaxing few days including some visits to the beach and shopping with Suri, it was the main event. Tom's managed to win over a few hearts along the way - apparently making fawning fans of some reporters at yesterday morning's photo call. The couple looked happy and healthy together, though Katie's pretty dress and beautiful hair - not to mention the smile - stole the show from her adoring husband.

JK Rowling has been inducted in to France's prestigious Legion of Honour. Nicolas Sarkozy has given her the honorary title of "knight" at a ceremony at Paris's Elysee presidential palace yesterday. - PA

Her doctors, who had previously estimated that Jade had a 40 per cent chance of survival, have now started treatment to prolong her life for as long as possible, instead of pursuing a cure. Tom Cheers on His Ex While More Baby Rumors Surface

Tom Cruise paraded Valkyrie to Rome this morning, one stop closer to that visit with Beckham in Milan he mentioned. During his stop in Madrid yesterday, Tom expressed his Oscar hopes, including, sweetly, a win for his ex Penelope Cruz. His No. 1 woman, Katie Holmes, hasn't joined him for this leg of the trip, but Mrs. Cruise certainly didn't look pregnant when she presented at the SAGs this weekend. There are still rumors, however, that another baby is on the way, which would be fun and not too much of a surprise in 2009.

Tom Keeps the Valkyrie Express Cruising Along

Tom Cruise held roses from fans at the Valkyrie premiere in Moscow last night before appearing in Madrid for a photo call earlier today. Katie had her presentation duties at the SAG Awards this weekend, which kept her away from his side, though he still included her in conversation - Tom said it'd be great for Katie to work in the West End. He also mentioned he's excited to visit David in Milan, so maybe Katie will be meeting up with her husband for some time in Italy with the Beckhams.

Tom Covers Katie's Belly and Considers a Move to London

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise walked the red carpet in London's Leicester Square last night for the UK premiere of Valkyrie. They were joined by lots of stars from both sides of the Atlantic, including Kelly Rowland, Dermot O'Leary and Dancing on Ice's Melinda Messenger and Zoe Salmon. The couple then went on to the Ivy for dinner, and Tom placed his hand over Katie's belly as they left: what could that mean I wonder? Tom was raving about London at the premiere, telling The Mirror:

"It would be a fantastic move. Katie was absolutely brilliant on Broadway and to work in the West End would be a joy. It is something to consider for both of us. I think we’d love it here, even if it is so, so cold!"

I would love to see Tom, Katie and Suri (and any new additions!) move to our side of the pond, and see Katie tread the boards in the West End: what about you?

Tom and Katie Continue on Their Promotional Eurotrip

Katie Holmes slipped into a unique dress to accompany Tom Cruise to another premiere for Valkyrie today, this time in London. Looks like Katie's short 'do is starting to grow out, and we wonder if she'll have her longer locks around for her new movie role. Tom was always Katie's biggest fan when she was up on stage for Broadway, and now she can return the favor as the glamorous couple tours the globe.
