Fox has announced that Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles will be paired with 24 in January, while Prison Break will take a break till April. The network has also renewed Kitchen Nightmares and asked for fewer episodes of New Amsterdam. All the details are at The Futon Critic.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Clint Eastwood's cast of Changeling has expanded beyond Angelina Jolie to include John Malkovich and Jeffrey Donovan.
Warner Bros. Japan will produce a movie called Sushi King! Goes to New York, based on a popular TV show set in the world of sushi, Variety reports.
Cat Power will cover songs by Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, and James Brown on her next album, writes Billboard.
ComingSoon has news that Burlesque, a movie musical with 12 song-and-dance numbers, has been picked up by Screen Gems. The script was written by Juno writer Diablo Cody.
The View co-host Sherri Shepherd is developing a semi-autobiographical sitcom for The CW, Variety reports.
Meanwhile, Damon Wayans is working on a new comedy for ABC, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Variety reports that Clay Aiken will star in the Monty Python musical Spamalot on Broadway.
JJ Abrams has apparently cast Chris Pine in the role of Captain Kirk for his Star Trek movie, writes ComingSoon.

Fox Adds Something New for Every Night of the Week

Fox closed out Upfronts today by announcing 10 new shows, including the New Orleans cop tale "K-Ville" (pictured above), the band-focused "American Idol" spinoff, and the immortal detective story "New Amsterdam." Six of the new series will premiere in the fall, before the network shuffles its schedule in the spring to make room for four more new shows plus "American Idol" and "24."

Among returning shows, here's a sampling of the big news:

"House" is one of the few shows staying put in its time slot all season. "Prison Break" will take a midseason hiatus, and "Bones" will start on Wednesdays, then later move to Fridays.
"'Til Death" will return on Wednesdays and will get to reclaim its post-"Idol" slot in the spring.
"Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?" got a full-season order and will kick off the Thursday night lineup. Ugh!

"K-Ville"
From writer and executive producer Jonathan Lisco ("NYPD Blue," "The District") comes a heroic police drama set in New Orleans. Two years after Katrina, the city is still in chaos. Many cops have quit, and the jails, police stations and crime labs still haven't been properly rebuilt. But the cops who remain have courage to burn and a passion to reclaim and rebuild their city. MARLIN BOULET (Anthony Anderson, "The Departed," "The Shield") is a brash, funny, in-your-face veteran of the NOPD's Felony Action Squad, the specialized unit that targets the most-wanted criminals. "New Amsterdam"
Directed and executive-produced by visionary Lasse Hallstrom ("My Life As a Dog," "The Cider House Rules," "Chocolat," "The Hoax") and written by Allan Loeb ("Things We Lost in the Fire," "21") and Christian Taylor ("Showboy," "Six Feet Under"), "New Amsterdam" is the story of a New York homicide detective unlike any other. He is brilliant, mysterious, reckless, magnetic, unknowable. And he has a profound secret: he is immortal. "Back to You"
In the 90s, the local TV news scene in Pittsburgh was dominated by one team: CHUCK DARLING (Kelsey Grammer, "Frasier," "Cheers") and KELLY CARR (Patricia Heaton, "Everybody Loves Raymond"). They had that elusive quality all news teams need: chemistry ... at least on-screen. Off-screen, Chuck was a bit of a self-centered womanizer, Kelly a bit of an uptight know-it-all. So when Chuck got the call to move up to a larger market, no tears were shed. But after an embarrassing on-air tirade ended up on the Internet, Chuck found himself on the downswing career-wise. He even questioned whether his lifestyle of chasing women and living in hotels was as exciting as it used to be. So when he got the call to return to Pittsburgh, to reunite with Kelly and try to take the newscast back to No. 1, it was an offer he couldn't refuse. Back in Pittsburgh, Chuck has a new coworker in RYAN CHURCH (Josh Gad, "Mary and Joe"), the overstressed news director. There are also familiar faces like MARSH McGINLEY (Fred Willard, "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy," "Best in Show"), the affable, endlessly inappropriate sports anchor, and GARY CREZYZEWSKI, pronounced Kre-shoov-ski (Ty Burrell, "In Good Company," "Out of Practice"), the perennially put-upon field reporter who always seems to get left out in the snow. "Kitchen Nightmares"
Hell hath no fury like an angry chef, and no chef has a sharper temper than Gordon Ramsay when things go wrong in the kitchen. The star of the highly rated culinary boot camp "Hell's Kitchen" returns to FOX with another sizzling unscripted series. This time, Chef Ramsay hits the road in each episode, tackling a restaurant in crisis and exposing the stressful realities of trying to run a successful food business. Inspired by one of the UK's biggest hits, "Kitchen Nightmares" is seen in more than 50 territories around the globe, and the series reveals a whole new side to Ramsay. He's still prone to the explosive outbursts and spectacular confrontations familiar to fans of "Hell's Kitchen," but he also shows his sensitive and nurturing side a unique blend of fury, passion, inspirational leadership and tough love that can coax a small spark of talent into a roaring flame. There's no time for polite small talk as Ramsay embarks on his mission to turn things around. If the wine waiter's service isn't up to par, he'll be out the door before he can say "merlot." If the head chef doesn't match up to Ramsay's expectations, Ramsay will hammer him into shape, and if he can't stand the heat, he may quit the kitchen. "The Search for the Next Great American Band"
What "American Idol" did for individuals, "The Search for the Next Great American Band" is going to do for musical groups. The producers of "American Idol" will conduct the ultimate search for an undiscovered band. "The Search for the Next Great American Band" is scouring the country, seeking groups from all musical genres who think they have what it takes to make it big. Judges will narrow down bands from all walks of life musicians of different ages, family acts, garage bands, etc. to 10 semi-finalists, who will perform in front of a live studio audience. Viewers then will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite bands. The final three acts will compete for a major recording contract and the chance to become music superstars.

"Nashville"
From the creative minds behind the hit series "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County" comes "Nashville," a high-stakes, high-drama docu-soap set in "the biggest small town in America." The show focuses on the dreamers and dream-makers in the music industry, as well as those trying to make their mark on Nashville's big business and high society. The series features a diverse, vibrant young cast perched on the cusp of achieving their greatest successes in a town that can make you or break you. Talent, power, drive, love and hope are the fuel that makes Nashville burn bright and makes this unique place the true embodiment of the American Dream. Behind every song there's a story waiting to be told, and there are many such stories in "Nashville."

"Canterbury's Law"
From executive producers Denis Leary and Jim Serpico ("Rescue Me," "The Job") and writer Dave Erickson ("Murder in Greenwich") comes "Canterbury's Law," a courtroom drama about a rebellious female defense attorney who's willing to bend the law in order to protect the wrongfully accused. ELIZABETH CANTERBURY (Julianna Margulies, "ER") is a force of nature. An attorney on the rise, she puts her career on the line to take on risky and unpopular cases, even when they take a toll on her personal life. Elizabeth and her law professor husband MATTHEW CANTERBURY (Linus Roache, "Batman Begins," "The Chronicles of Riddick"), haunted by the disappearance of their young son, have settled in Providence, Rhode Island, in an attempt to distance themselves from the tragedy and put their relationship back together. But those goals become elusive whenever Elizabeth's work provides a stark reminder of the justice absent in their own lives. "The Sarah Connor Chronicles"
Executive producers Josh Friedman ("War of the Worlds"), David Nutter ("Supernatural," "Smallville") and C-2 Pictures ("Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines") bring to television an intense new drama based on the celebrated heroine of the "Terminator" movies: Sarah Connor. At the end of "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," Sarah vanquished the liquid metal Terminator sent from the future to kill her teenage son, John. "The Return of Jezebel James"
Can two estranged sisters, polar opposites, live together when one agrees to carry the other's baby? SARAH THOMKINS (Parker Posey, "For Your Consideration," "Best in Show") is a bright, optimistic, determined woman who seems to have it all a great job as a children's book editor, an eager-to-please assistant, BUDDY (Michael Arden), who helps keep her life together, and a no-strings-attached personal relationship with successful businessman MARCUS SONTI (Scott Cohen, "Kissing Jessica Stein"). Nevertheless, as her father, RONALD (Ron McLarty, "Law & Order"), is constantly pointing out, something is missing from Sarah's life. Her hard work may garner accolades, but when she goes home at night, she is very much alone. All too aware that she isn't getting any younger, Sarah decides to have a baby on her own and gets the shock of her life when the doctor tells her she can't get pregnant. Having no concept of the term "can't," Sarah wills herself to execute a plan. With nowhere else to turn, Sarah sets up a meeting with her quirky younger sister, COCO (Lauren Ambrose, "Six Feet Under"), and proposes a plan for Coco to carry her baby. They haven't seen each other in a while, and Coco refuses to go along with such a huge favor. But something happens when Sarah mentions that she's turned Coco's imaginary childhood friend, Jezebel James, into a children's book. Even though she doesn't say so out loud, Coco is clearly touched, and, realizing that her current living situation sharing a couch with her friend's sick dog isn't working out, Coco decides that this just might be worth a try.

"The Rules for Starting Over"
From the creatively fruitful minds of the Farrelly Brothers comes a single camera comedy, set in Boston, about a group of newly single friends learning the painful lessons of starting over in their 30s. They'd all love to get remarried, if they could just find their true loves. JACK "GATOR" GATELY (Craig Bierko, "Cinderella Man," "Boston Legal") is a charismatic, optimistic leader who never expected to be single again. But now that he is, he's determined to make the best of it. He's going to sift through all the bruised, damaged, occasionally psychotic fruit until he finds "the one." Joining Gator in bachelorhood redux is his thrice-divorced best friend TOMMY (Johnny Sneed, "The Guardian," "Fever Pitch"). The founder and brewmaster of an upstart microbrewery, Tommy has a voracious appetite for food, beer and women. He falls in love easily and always disastrously, yet truly hopes his fourth starter marriage will be "the one." DR. FREDDY SAHGAL (Shaun Majumder, "24," "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle") has seen some pretty strange stuff during his years as a successful surgeon, but he's never seen any of it through the eyes of a single man. Probably the least equipped of the group to handle this unexpected life change is Dr. Freddy, who can execute a triple bypass in his sleep, but is all thumbs when it comes to the opposite sex. Rounding out the group is KATE (Rashida Jones, "The Office"), a smart, successful attorney who handled all three of the boys' divorces. Having just turned 30, Kate finds herself dumped after a seven-year engagement. She reluctantly joins the guys in negotiating the treacherous waters of dating. Kate owns the brownstone next to Gator's. Over time, this pair may find that "the one" is just a brick wall away.

Did You Help Save Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles?

To bring you up to speed, the fate of Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles has recently been up in the air, as the show needed big ratings for its two part finale last night to keep it afloat. Although I've gone on record to say that T:SCC isn't my favorite show, I tuned in anyway to get my fill of cybergenetic action until it (possibly) returns. But truth be told, I really just wanted to play along with IO9's Save Sarah Connor Drinking Game. If you happen to see the story and are keeping up then you must be one hungover sci fanatic this morning!

When all was said and done, there were 41 swigs of beer and a whopping 20 shots to be had. Yeesh - talk about a headache! Maybe if the show comes back for another season, Fox could consider moving it to a weekend time slot. You know, so we can all play without worrying about going into work with a hangover! Pop A DVD In – Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (TV)

The first two Terminator movies were always something of a guilty pleasure of mine, but when I heard the producers of the original franchise were making a series based on it I wasn't entirely sure how it would work out. I was pleasantly surprised for the most part – Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles aired in the UK earlier this year on Virgin 1, and became the highest rated show on the channel – although I'm sure a lot of you may have missed the nine episode season (shortened by the writers' strike).

Starring British actress Lena Headey, Thomas Dekker, Summer Glau (who I loved in Firefly), Richard T Jones and Brian Austin Green - what a blast from the past – it's an action packed and enjoyable first season that picks up the story a couple of years after Terminator 2: Judgement Day finishes in 1999. But the show is mostly set in 2007 after Sarah (Headey) and John Connor (Dekker) travel there in the opening episode with the help of Cameron (Glau) – a robot sent back in time to protect John.

It could have been a horrible cash in, but the show has managed to mostly ring true for fans of the movies, as well as still being able to lead new viewers into the franchise. It most definitely doesn't follow all of the mythology though, so if you're a sucker for details and adored the movies, you might have to blinker your vision a little.

The benefit of this being a TV series is that – although there are some great effects – this show concentrates on emotions and develops relationships that are truncated in two hour cinematic experiences. The relationship between mother Sarah and son John is expanded on – Lena Headey is awesome as a new, slightly softer Sarah Connor, delivering a performance imbued with strength. Headey also manages to portray Sarah's fierce protective instincts of John just as well in subtle glances as she does in out and out declarations.

It's not all dark and emotional though, there are some great slices of lightness throughout – the three leads balance this well, and work together to base this sci-fi tale within some reality of human emotion.

The series comes out on DVD today, and I recommend you give it a try – the short season means that it's not as huge a commitment as the usual American TV standard of 22 episodes, and if you enjoy it you have a brand new season on the way. Plus Thomas Dekker's pretty easy on the eyes (and not fifteen in real life) so, there's always that.

As I said, Chronicles has been picked up for a second season, and rather oddly Shirley Manson (from Garbage) has signed on for the new series! I'm looking forward to the expanded cast of the second series, and seeing how the story continues.

Expect Fringe, 24 Excitement and Jon Voight Talks Angelina

BuzzSugar and I are down in LA for the TCAs, starting with yesterday's Fox presentations! Highlights included seeing Joshua Jackson promote Fringe, even if it was only via satellite, hearing Jerry O'Connell joke about his Tom Cruise impression, Brian Austin Green all hot and tan and - get this - hearing Jon Voight talk about Angelina Jolie and the new twins while promoting 24! Check out Buzz for more in depth coverage of all the panels and details on the new and returning shows, and here are some more of my observations from Fox's presentations and party last night on Santa Monica Pier:

Let's cut to the chase, here's what Jon Voight had to say about Angelina and those babies: "Well, the most exciting thing is to have new children -- the most beautiful thing in the world and the most exciting thing. And when they're part of your own family it's even more exciting. . . I have not heard from her directly but I've heard little messages from her. My niece has heard but that's the only thing I know about. . .but I'm so excited to have a boy and a girl. I love her." When asked if he will visit, "As soon as I'm allowed. . . When Angie says come on over, I'll do it."
Joshua Jackson and his Fringe co-stars were off filming in New York, but the general feeling about the show seems to be super excited. JJ Abrams was on the panel with his cowriters, but Pacey still managed to bring a hilarious lighthearted feeling to the day even just on the big screen. When one reporter said that the cow in the pilot stole the show a few times, Josh was quick to come back by reminding her that even though he wasn't in the room...he could still hear her.
When asked whether he's heard from Tom Cruise since his parody video, Jerry O'Connell said thankfully not.
Party highlight: playing carnival games with (and beating) Kal Penn. Also, Amanda Bynes showing up with Seth McFarlane causing more than a few whispers.

Sad So You Think You Can Dance news about Jessica's injuries that mean Comfort is back, though Nigel wasn't about to say anything more about it.
Ladies (and gents) love those Prison Break boys Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell.
During the Do Not Disturb panel, Jerry O'Connell lamented the fate of Carpoolers, but said that despite it leaving him "depressed in his underwear" at home for a couple months, it opened the door for this new job and got the attention of the new show's director Jason Bateman and writer Abraham Higginbotham.
Brian Austin Green stayed almost silent during the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, though still looked pret-ty hot and very tan.
Even though Kiefer was too unbelievably mobbed the moment he walked into the informal coffee break session with the 24 stars for me to get a word, it was still so great to see him back as Jack Bauer in the preview for the 24: Exile special.

WonderCon 2008: Connor Chronicles Convos

If you haven't been tuning into Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles lately, you've been missing out on some sweet geeky hotness (i.e.: Brian Austin Green and Thomas Dekker). . .and that's about it. The show itself is pretty comical (not in a good way), but definitely action packed - if you like sweaty men running around with guns that are being hunted by cybernetic organisms from the future. And who doesn't, right? Right. Despite the backlash of viewers accusing the show of having continuity and character issues, it's still doing pretty well for itself since crushing the competition its opening week.

Although I'm not a big fan of the show, I am a fan of Summer Glau. And on day three of WonderCon, I was not alone. Many of my Firefly and Serenity comrades were in the crowd as well to support our "River Tam." Even though I give the show a stinker "thumbs down," the cast was hilarious and totally entertaining during the panel. On the fun they have behind the scenes: "Thomas comes in each morning wearing sunglasses – even if it's raining – and rehearses as a different character, not as John Connor. It makes the directors nervous."
Writer Josh Freidman on convincing producers to bring a Reese back from the dead: "I was sitting in a coffee shop with James Middleton, and I was like, "Dude! I know what I'm gonna do - I'm gonna bring Kyle Reese back" and he said, "You're gonna get Fu**ing killed!" I had this whole thing worked out and he was looking at me like I was crazy. So I was like, "How 'bout his brother?" and he said "Oh, that would be good."
Josh Freidman's ideal tag line for the show: "The Ultimate Nuclear Family."
Brian Austin Green on if he thought writer John Freidman had him in mind when writing the character: "I don't think so! I don't think he wrote the character and thought I'm gonna get Brian Austin Green for this. When I think Action, I think Brian Austin Green. Former DJ. . . Action star."
And John on hiring Brian to play Derek: "Well Brian came in to audition and just knocked it out of the park. So I sat there and thought, "Sh*t! I'm gonna hire Brian Austin Green to play this part!"
Summer on reading the show's message boards: "I can't go on the boards. . . but I let my mom send me some of the good links and she'll say "See? People like you! And I'll click on that."
Josh's reply when asked if he's heard that there's going to be a T4: "There is!?"

New Charlie's Angels TV Show Planned on ABC

Word is that ABC is close to finalizing a deal to bring another version of Charlie's Angels to TV.

This new series would be a "modern version" of the '70s hit, and yes, I know you're thinking that we already got a modern version with the 2000 movie Charlie's Angels and its sequel. Interestingly, Drew Barrymore is involved in this new series somehow (I'm guessing production), as is Leonard Goldberg who produced the original series. Josh Friedman (of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) will write and exec produce.

Whether or not you think it's a great idea to remake, it would provide plum prime time roles for three actresses. If you had your pick, who would you cast in this new series? I hear Mischa Barton and Ashlee Simpson need new gigs. I'm kidding, but what are your ideas?
