Which NBC Reality Show Would You Renew?

Just when we thought we might be free of "The Apprentice" forever, there's this: Sources say that NBC is about to announce at least one, and possibly two, more seasons of the show.

I'm trying to look on the bright side here; it could be worse. Maybe another NBC reality show could have been renewed instead - say, "The Real Wedding Crashers" or "Grease: You're the One That I Want." So here's my question for you. If one of these NBC reality shows had to stay on the air, which would you renew? ("None" is not an option!)

"Crashers" Crashes, while "Medium" has a Future

Apparently, Monday at 10 p.m. is NBC's Time Slot O' Death. NBC's latest attempt to get something going in the post-"Heroes" hour, "The Real Wedding Crashers," has crashed and burned, just like "The Black Donnellys" and "Studio 60" before it. Tonight's episode is still on the schedule, but NBC will air repeats of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" in its place for the rest of the season. USA Today is reporting that the three remaining "Crashers" episodes will air on Mondays at 8 sometime over the summer.

Frankly, I find it hard to believe that NBC hasn't been able to find a single show all season that can work after a hit as big as "Heroes." They already have a ton of viewers at that time of night; why can't they manage to keep them?

Meanwhile, another NBC show can foresee good things in its future: "Medium" has been renewed for next season. I hadn't expected the network to make any more announcements about returning shows until it reveals its full fall schedule next week, so this was a bit of a surprise. I can't help but wonder what it means for NBC's other dramas that haven't been renewed yet, including "Crossing Jordan" and, of course, "Friday Night Lights," which got an order for more scripts at the same time as "Medium."

TV Tonight: "The Real Wedding Crashers"

We Sugar Network folks aren't the only ones with weddings on the brain these days. NBC's newest reality show, "The Real Wedding Crashers," premieres tonight after "Heroes." Produced by Ashton "Mr. Hidden Camera" Kutcher, the show features real-life couples who allow their weddings to be crashed by professional improv actors. Yup, the bride and groom are in on it - but the same can't be said for their parents, or the wedding party, or the guests.

At first, I thought the show could be morbidly entertaining, but after watching a few of the clips NBC released, I'm less hopeful. Granted, I'm not the biggest fan of "punk'd"-style humor - but my biggest problem with "The Real Wedding Crashers" is that it just doesn't look that funny. I couldn't even make it through this video about a mishap in a cake shop, and the one where the best man gets "arrested" with Cuban cigars wasn't much better. I can't imagine that this show will get better ratings for NBC than either "Studio 60" or "The Black Donnellys" did in that time slot, but hey, I also didn't foresee the success of "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?"

Ashton Kutcher: King of the Hidden Camera

This April, the man who made "punk'd" part of the popular lexicon will unveil his latest hidden-camera adventure, called "The Real Wedding Crashers." Essentially a reality-show version of the hit movie, the six-episode series "will record improvisational actors who go undercover at real weddings," according to an NBC press release. Kutcher is executive producing under his Katalyst shingle.

I'll admit: This show could be morbidly entertaining, not to mention a nice counterpart that other crappy wedding show. But I can't help but find Ashton incredibly irritating, no matter how snappy a dresser he is. Now it seems he has yet another hidden-camera show in the works, too. For the details, read more

Katalyst also plans to produce a U.S. version of "Game Show in My Head," a British show where contestants tackle wacky stunts for a chance to win $1 million. Not surprisingly, there is also a candid-camera element to this pilot, which will be shot for CBS later this month. According to the March 4 Variety story:

CBS and the pilot's producers are keeping a tight lid on the show's content. A recent casting call for the show offered a few more hints, while asking for "everyday people who are ready for a little fun in extraordinary situations."

"Do you consider yourself a daredevil, a risk taker, a great salesman?" asks the casting sheet. "Can you talk an Eskimo into buying a block of ice? Sell a ketchup popsicle to a man in white gloves? Then you're ready to star in the new CBS prime time TV pilot."

I guess it's good that Kutcher realizes he's better behind the hidden camera than in front of a movie camera, and I can't blame the guy for wanting to ride the "Punk'd" wave. What do you guys think?

The Much More Fun Movie Awards

Oscar, smocker. Yeah it's nice that everyone dresses up and takes voting very seriously for the industry's sake, but let's face it, the MTV movie awards are so much more entertaining. There is never a dull moment. In fact, I never need a reason to link back to my favorite part from last year - In case you missed it, click here to see the fabulous kiss between now real life couple, Ryan and Rachel. So sexy.

Back to 2006. 40 Year Old Virgin and Wedding Crasher scored the most nominations with 5 each. The most exciting race should be for the Best Kiss category. Who could resist voting for this one?

PartySugar's Guide to Party Crashing

A couple weeks back, FabSugar and I waltzed into a party at the Emporio Armani Cafe. From the get-go, things were a little weird. We assumed it was a fashion event, but the clothes were off limits. Guests were asked to wear name tags and encouraged to mingle. Suddenly we realized it was a private party, a real estate networking event for those in the industry! Instead of leaving, we quickly turned into stylish party crashers.

Party crashing - the art of showing up at an event unexpectedly and uninvited but going unnoticed - was made popular by the flick Wedding Crashers. While I don't recommend you make a career out of it, it's fun to crash a party every now and then. For my tips on how to successfully party crash, read more.

Walk into the event confidently, like you belong. Smile at the bouncer or doorman.
Be cool and don't call unnecessary attention to yourself. The last thing you want is for the hostess to single you out and wonder how you ended up at the party. Fab and I skipped the long name tag line and thus averted having to tell people we weren't in real estate.

Do not over drink or overeat. Enjoy the open bar and food as you would at any normal event. Fab and I ordered a cocktail but realized we preferred wine, so we ditched the cocktails and ordered wine at another bar.
Mingle with guests, but avoid making up extravagant lies. Lies have a tendency to snowball and can easily be blown out of proportion. We mentioned being writers but said nothing about the topics we cover.
If you are put on the spot, allude to being a friend of so and so - choose a name that is common in most groups of friends - and quickly change the subject of conversation to something other than yourself.
Have fun and be yourself; it is a party after all!

"I can't believe I did it.. I actually went blond!!" I said in utter shock. "Marco, my stylist, has been convincing me to go for like a year and now that I've done it I'm totally ready to start my social experiment: do blonds or brunettes have more fun?" I explained into my cell phone as I hurried down the street to meet Jason. "I'm really excited for happy hour. I get to begin my experiment!" Already, I felt bubbly and ready for fun - was it the hair talking? I caught a glimpse of myself in a store window on my way to meet Jason. "Hmmm -- this hair needs something. Gucci sunglasses! Jason won't mind if I'm a ave the scene scoped out and your next conquest selected. Girl how do you do it?? The real reason I called you to meet me here is that I have to tell you something... Chad and I are looking for a surrogate, and I know its a lot to ask of you, but we've been bff's since the sandbox days. Whadaya say? I didn't think anything would draw my attention away from the hottie in the corner, but Jason's question snapped me out of my reverie. "You are telling me you want these genes for your kid? You do remember what my nose looked like a few years ago, don't you?" At that, Jason broke out laughing. I could tell he had been nervous, as anyone would be, asking someone to father their child. After a short pause (did i mention awkward pause) I realized he was serious. Just as I realized this, I ordered a cosmo from the cute bartender and told him to prepare two more because I'll be right back. Jason, who was still waiting for that long awaited response, hovered above me like a helicopter until I finally blurted out, "find my heart, you can have my body. Find my soul, and I'm yours forever."

Jason stared at me as I downed my drink and was working on standing so Kyle could catch my most flattering angle. "Maybe we should talk about this another time when you're not busy doing your best axe commercial impression. Boom chica bowow!" He said with a laugh. I was about to respond when I caught Kyle's eye and he smiled. And with that smile I was reminded of the wedding. The wedding I couldn't remember before but I was suddenly remembering now. Kyle was the Best Man and he gave the sweetest speech. I suddenly remembered his exact words. He said," "True love is your soul's recognition of its counterpoint in another," which made me smile because I knew he was quoting "The Wedding Crashers." While others wiped their eyes after his words (including Jason), I smiled knowing I caught him. But still I couldn't get the questioning look out of Jason's eyes. "So will you do it?" He asked. "What? Be your surrogate??" I turned my full attention on him-knowing Kyle would be into me playing hard to get and said I remember he came with a date. I wonder if he's still into blonde's.

Jason gave me a death glare! "Have you always been this self absorbed?" he said. I wondered why his panties are all in a knot. "But Jason, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity here. What are the chances of seeing him again!" He gave me an incredulous look and said "By the way, the blond looks brassy." as he stomped out of the bar. I felt bad, but even worse now I was alone and Kyle was looking so good that I couldn't take my eyes off of him. When the bartender asked me if I wanted another drink I said "sure, but will you send one over to that gentlemen in the corner?" Just as I turned back around to refresh my mental picture of him, a tall brunette in what possibly could have been the shortest dress in all of New York City, was giving him a kiss on the cheek. I wondered who this floozy was. She was kissing my man (well not really but the guy who I am utterly attracted to). As Kyle was getting the drink I ordered, I decided to make my way to the ladies room. Since Kyle was standing in this brunette's direction, I figured a small minor bump into may spill the drink on this floozy. That will show her to mess with my man! As I oh-so-subtly bumped into Ms. Floozy on my way to the Ladies', she lost her balance and fell into Kyle's arms. Drat! It backfired! Now she's kissed him *and* been saved by him! As the pair regained their balance, Ms. Floozy turned to face me. I was not expecting to see... my publisher, Martha! I stammered, my face flushing a deep red. I managed to squeak, "Hello, Martha. I'm actually here working on my next article." Luckily, she clapped her hands together, completely forgetting how I'd collided into her moments before. "Lizzie!" she squealed, "you've gone blond! You look absolutely fabulous! I -must- introduce you to my nephew, Kyle." My cheeks flush red embarrassed by my mistake. "Kyle," I say holding out my hand, "it's so nice to meet you again." We shake hands and I can feel the electricity charge through our touch. I snap back to reality when Martha asks me, "So what's this article about?" In that instant my mind went blank. Kyle was not with Martha. hmmm. I wonder if he likes my hair too and then it hit me "On whether blonde's or brunettes have more fun. I have completed the brunette portion of the experiment" I said. I flipped my hair out and said "Time to find out about blonds!" Martha was just about to ask about dependent and independent variables of my "in depth" experiment, when Kyle jumps in and says, "Have we met before?" Crushed! I struggle to find the right words but my mind is racing and now he's smiling and I can't stop wondering if he ever had braces because his teeth are perfect.

"I'm kidding," he says, touching my hip. "The wedding, how could I forget? You were the one that had the best chicken dance!" Of all the things he could remember about me, it had to be that damn chicken dance. "Yea! That was me!" I said to humor him and myself. "So what are you doing here in NYC? I thought you lived in Los Angeles!" He took a sip of his drink when Martha budded in with "Oh well Kyle here is getting married this weekend at the Waldorf!" I stood in shock. I replied to Martha, "I'm sorry, this may be the cosmos talking, but what did you just say?" Martha replied, "Kyle is getting married to Jana, you remember Jana she used to be your gynecologist. (Great the man I want inspecting my private parts is marrying the one person who knows more about them than me) I thought to myself, 'ohhhhhh I'm so happy for you Jana is so lovely' but I quickly said my goodbyes and made an hasty retreat for home. On mt way, I hastily called Jason for support as I always do in situations like this. He wasn't answering his phone. Why isn't he answering his phone? Oh... yeah... I left him at the bar! I am such a horrible friend I thought to myself and immediately drove myself back to the hair salon -- clearly nothing was going to go my way as a blond so I went back to my roots, dark long locks just as I belong!
