What You Need to Know About Lyme Disease

Oh no! Poor Parker Posey has been diagnosed with Lyme disease. Due to her illness, the 40-year-old star of Best in Show is dropping out of her planned off-Broadway play, This. We wish her the best for a speedy recovery.

Posey certainly isn't alone. Lyme disease affects about 20,000 people in the United States each year, versus 10,000 new cases annually in the early '90s. Transmitted by blacklegged ticks, called deer ticks, in the eastern US and western blacklegged ticks on the West Coast, Lyme disease is caused by the Borrelia burgdorferi bacterium. Not every tick transmits Lyme disease, just the ones that have fed on infected animals. Learn how to recognize the symptoms and prevent Lyme disease when you read more.

If you are bitten by a tick, you may not feel it. So keep an eye out for these symptoms if you've been outdoors:

A bull's eye-like skin rash, such as the one shown here. It may start as a small spot and expand into a purplish circle over a few days.
Fever
Fatigue
Joint aches

Most cases can be cured quickly with antibiotics, but some patients will later develop neurological complications, such as Bell's palsy. So be sure to protect yourself from ticks whenever you're outdoors by covering your skin with long sleeves and socks, and use plenty of bug spray. Don't forget to have a friend check you for ticks when you get home.

First Look: Schwartzman, Galifianakis in HBO's Bored to Death

A weekly dose of Jason Schwartzman and Zach Galifianakis on my TV? Yes, please! HBO has released a teaser for its newest half-hour comedy series Bored to Death, which will premiere in September. Zach Galifianakis was recently added to the show, which is pretty brilliant casting given the success of The Hangover. The comedy star power doesn't end with those two - as you'll see in the trailer the series also features Ted Danson, Parker Posey, and Kristen Wiig. So great!

Schwartzman plays Jonathan, a struggling writer living in Brooklyn who drinks a lot. For no apparent reason he decides to become a private detective. Galifianakis plays his friend who writes comic books. The whole thing looks pretty funny and full of promise. To check out the trailer and tell me what you think, read more.

Mary-Kate Joins the Ladies Brunching in Tribeca

Mary-Kate Olsen was out fulfilling her duties as a Tribeca Film Festival juror this morning at the Women's Filmmaker Brunch in NYC. MK looked hot in her Herve dress and leather jacket. Instead of her usual sidekick Nate Lowman, Mary-Kate was joined by Debra Messing, Julianna Margulies, Parker Posey, and a few of the festival's organizers. It must be exhausting watching all of the movies in competition, but Mary-Kate has impressively been able to still maintain her rigorous social schedule.

Parker Posey Is a Fan of Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is one of my favorite types of yoga, and according to People magazine, Parker Posey is a big fan too. She says, "It centers me. I like the community," and I totally agree.

The thing that's so great about Ashtanga is that you can step into any class, and it'll be the same no matter what studio or state you're in. That's because this type of yoga follows a sequence known as Primary Series, that never changes. It includes Sun Salutations (five A's and five B's), standing postures such as Triangle, seated postures such as Butterfly, the entire Closing Sequence, and ends with Savasana. The flow of the postures is guided by ujayii breath, and each posture is linked with a series of movements known as a vinyasa, so you're always moving. Primary Series is mostly about poses that stretch your hamstrings, but Ashtanga has another series (that some think is more advanced) known as Second Series, that involves backbends and arm balancing poses.

If you're a runner, dancer, athlete, or someone who likes to work hard and sweat a lot, you'll love Ashtanga yoga. It will strengthen your muscles and increase flexibility in every area of your body. If you can't make it to a class, check out this DVD.

MK, Kanye, Josh, & Diane Celebrate an NYC Opera Anniversary

Formal wear was in order last night in NYC for the Metropolitan Opera's 125th anniversary gala at Lincoln Center. Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger looked picture perfect and totally gorgeous as ever hand in hand on the red carpet. Mary-Kate Olsen showed off a new glam look and it even looks like she got her hair done for the occasion, while Ginnifer Goodwin looked demure in black. Kanye West is continuing to show off Amber Rose, who dressed a little more appropriately and let her man have a solo moment on the red carpet for all the cameras. This time it wasn't just another Manhattan party, but an honoring of an opera that so many people love to watch.

Demi and Ashton Are All Ascots and Polka Dots in Berlin

Demi Moore was pretty in polka dots at a photo call for Happy Tears before the film's premiere at the Berlin Film Festival tonight. Ashton joined her on the red carpet, complete with the ascot he tweeted about earlier. Ashton and Demi are still going strong constantly updating their Twitter accounts with anecdotes and photos in the midst of their busy schedules. Now they've got another event to tell the world about - Madonna and Demi will be cohosting another Oscars after party in LA this year.

A Fabby Halloween: Party Girl

H-h-hello? If you're going to be Parker Posey's best role in this mid-90 flick for Halloween you need to perfect her signature greeting. This film actually had a big influence in my moving to the big bad city of NYC in the late '90s. Mary's club kid life was so cool and quirky‚ or so I thought. She couldn't pay rent, but she did what any style maven does and struggled in style. From party girl to librarian, Mary stomped around in blobby platforms, bold hats, animal prints and themed getups. Stars Come Out For a Night at the Opera

The Emmys brought out some gorgeous gowns to the red carpet on Sunday, but a few stars got equally fancy for the Metropolitan Opera 125th Season Opening Night Gala in NYC last night. Helena Christensen and Christie Brinkley showed they haven't lost any of their model beauty, while Parker Posey went a little funkier with her big bow. Jenny Humphrey was being bullied at school on last night's episode of Gossip Girl, but in real life Taylor Momsen was looking very grown up and almost unrecognizable in her dramatic red ruffles. While the opera singers were the focus of the night, the ladies in the audience definitely managed to steal a little of the attention away for themselves.

NYFW: Celeb Spotting - Part Two

Earlier today I posted my first gallery of a whole host of celebs who have been out and about at New York Fashion Week over the past few days, and now it's time for part two. Mermaids (remember that?!) co-stars Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci sat next to Nicole Richie at DKNY, creating a gorgeous front row. Like Nicole, Gossip Girl stars Jessica Szohr, Leighton Meester and Michelle Trachtenberg have also all been spotted at several events, the latter showing sexy curves in a Herve Leger dress.

Ugly Betty stars Becki Newton and Mark Indelicato have also been spotted at several shows, Becki's been playing around with some fun looks, and I love Mark's Mr Happy t-shirt - what a fashionable 14-year-old! Some other acting folk spotted round the heady rush of events include Parker Posey, Liv Tyler, Courteney Cox, Mary Louise Parker, Uma Thurman, Jennifer Lopez, Adrien Grenier, Rose Byrne and young Emma Roberts, all of them looking rather fabulous in their fashionable attire.

Kelly Osbourne was looking slimmer than ever on her boyfriend Luke Worrell's arm, and the ubiquitous Agyness Deyn and her best mate Henry Holland have continued to pop up at shows. And of course Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson made headlines when they attended Charlotte Ronson's show, and I'm fresh out of skepticism for these two. They looked so happy.
