Here's #2! Who's Watching the Nashville Debate With Us?

Get ready, 9 p.m. EDT, it's the second verse, same as the first? Decidedly not my friends, (no drinking yet!). But given that it's a town-hall-style debate, a format McCain is quite comfortable with, I expect the "my friends" to come flying, so prepare yourselves.

So the scoop: of the six million questions submitted online (!!!) only 15-20 will be answered. The candidates will answer questions from uncommitted voters and while the candidates have agreed not to include follow-up questions, though moderator Tom Brokaw hasn't himself agreed to cut them out. Most of the stories today have underscored McCain's need for a "game changer" given his favored status in the format, and his need to reverse Obama's gain in the polls.

McCain has, with a grin, signaled he's ready to shuck the gloves, and while the Obama campaign acknowledges his competence in a town hall, they're readying their gloves as well. They said, "I hope during the course of that he also has time to speak to the state of our economy, which is in deep trouble right now. But we are prepared for a very aggressive debate."

This Just In: Kelly Clarkson Buys a Country Crib

According to Real Estalker, Kelly Clarkson has purchased a 5,470-square-foot, 5-bedroom, 5-bath home in Nashville, TN for nearly $1.5 million. The listing for the property reads:

One of a kind stone home updated with fabulous additions. 5 bedroom/5 full bath. Open kitchen to den with large breakfast room at heart of the home. You will love the screened porch with stone fireplace + stone terraces. Great level treed lot. 9-foot ceilings. 3-car garage.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of the current owners' interior design choices, so let's hope Clarkson brings in some professionals. Perhaps Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban who live nearby can give her some local decorator recommendations to spice up the modest digs. If not, she can always take a note from the slick home of her dear friend Simon Cowell's girlfriend . . .

This Just In: Jessica Simpson May Be Leaving LA For Nashville

According to Real Estalker, several sources are whispering that Jessica Simpson may have purchased a 10,925-square-foot, 7-bedroom, 8-bath home in Nashville, TN, known as "The Queen of Northumberland" for $3.47 million. The manse in question is in a gated community and is listed as having "magnificent stone work on cornices, window trim and entry door, a tennis court, a swimming pool, a home theater, and fabulous landscaping." While these reports have not been verified, the house was indeed purchased through a trust represented by money-manager Mary Ann McCready, who has executed the real estate goings-on of several other music-biz celebs in Nashville in the past. Considering that Simpson is known to be hard at work on her country album, if accurate, these reports wouldn't surprise me, seeing as Nashville is the capital of country music. But, no worries, Simpson won't be alone out there in Dixie; she'll join the likes of plenty of other celebs who call Nashville home, such as Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban.

Nestled in the Overton Hills, the beautiful sanctuary of Radnor Lake is a great escape in urban Nashville. The 747 acres of land were preserved in 1973 as Tennessee's first natural area and protected ecosystem. The lake area often offers close-up glimpses of herons, turtles, and deer just to name a few - and is a popular spot for nature studies from local university researchers. Because of its important natural habitats, you can hike on the various trails for animal observation, but save those walks with your pup for Otter Creek Road, the only part where pooches are permitted.

Clint Eastwood and Matt Damon are looking to finance The Human Factor, the Nelson Mandela film starring Morgan Freeman as Mandela, writes ComingSoon. Eastwood would also direct the film and Damon might star in it alongside Freeman.
Reba McEntire is enjoying the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 for the first time ever with her album Reba Duets, Billboard reports. She beat out both Kanye and 50 Cent.
Set your TiVos for Bravo's mini-marathon of six "30 Rock" episodes on Sunday afternoon! The Futon Critic has the details.
According to Variety, The Nielsen Company is looking to launch an "online social network" where TV enthusiasts can discuss what they think is working and not working - with studios and networks listening in.
Bright Eyes has been working hard to prepare for the concert this weekend in which he'll play with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, writes Billboard.
"Nip/Tuck" creator Ryan Murphy has a new show headed for Fox, Zap2it reports, while the Hollywood Reporter says the network also has two cop series in the works.

I'm a sucker for "docu-soaps" like "The Hills," so Fox's "Nashville" will get at least a few looks from me this fall. The series, which premieres this Friday at 9 p.m., follows a group of young singers, songwriters and producers who have moved to the nation's country-music capital to try and make their twang-filled dreams come true.

Robert Altman RIP

The legendary Robert Altman, probably best known for MASH, Nashville and The Player has died. The cause of the 81 year-old director's death has not yet been disclosed. Hollywood will not be the same without this icon, he will be greatly missed.

Taylor Joins Nicole and Keith For a Night Celebrating Country

Some of country music's biggest stars turned out in Nashville last night for the BMI Awards, which honor the year's best in songwriting. Taylor Swift was fresh off her SNL appearance to take a turn down the red carpet in white before she went onstage to accept an award for "Love Story." Nicole Kidman was there to keep her husband Keith Urban company as they laughed their way through the evening. The BMIs are a precursor to tonight's big CMA Awards, where tons of country singers will come out to celebrate the genre. Both Keith and Taylor are in the running for Entertainer of the Year, so we can expect to see the duo back out again this evening.

Ladies' Home Journal: The New Nicole Kidman Is a Woman's Woman

Oscar and Golden Globe-winning actress, producer, and vocalist are just a few things Nicole Kidman can rattle off from her long list of accomplishments. But the role the gorgeous red head relishes most is being a mother and wife in her new hometown of Nashville. As country crooner Keith Urban's partner, she is happy to sit back for a bit and let the spotlight shine brightly on him while she spends the majority of her time raising their young daughter, Sunday. The 42-year-old mother recently took time to sit down with Ladies' Home Journal where she talked about her content lifestyle and her desire to give back to the community.

On living in Nashville:

I love living here. . . . It's a long way from New York and Los Angeles, but that's part of the attraction. I feel protected here, especially now that I have the baby. . . . There are certain limitations to my career because I'm based here. And that's cool. Keith has enormous ambitions, which I support. His tours and albums are much bigger than what I'm doing right now.

On how she cherishes her new life:

I was running from my life, in a way. . . . My imaginary life was better than my flesh-and-blood life. That's a sad thing to say, but it was. Now I love my real life so much it requires an enormous belief in a film to want to take it on. . . . I think that we're in the world to connect. Because that's what you're left with. You're not left with your houses or awards or money, you're left with the people that you built relationships with.

On UNIFEM, a charity she has worked with for years:

It's so they'll [battered women] have a place to call. A lot of women are so terrified; they'll go to the police or court and don't win. We can set up shelters and raise money. . . . I'm constantly trying to find new ways to give back. . . . Women are nurturers. There's so much we can do with the power of our feelings, the power of our sensitivity.

A lot of it was literally holding each other and listening. . . . Our motto is, "Just get in there. Don't retreat. Stay in it."

On her marriage to Keith Urban:

Keith and I have a very honest, profound marriage, which we both contribute to every day. . . . We have a phrase, "Does this contribute to the good of our union?" Because that's what's most important. I love being in love. I believe in the power of love, the way it can heal. The more you keep choosing it - because there are times when you can choose to be angry at the person or to love him - the more it nourishes a family.
