Jake Gyllenhaal May Be Thrilling Audiences With Source Code

It seems so long since we've seen Jake Gyllenhaal on screen (2007 in Rendition, to be exact), so I'm glad that we're about to get a lot more of him. Next month we'll catch him in Brothers, then in the Spring all buffed up in Prince of Persia - and he won't be slowing down. Gyllenhaal is in talks to star in the sci-fi thriller Source Code.

The geeky-titled flick is about a soldier (ostensibly played by Gyllenhaal) who "wakes up in the body of an unknown commuter and is forced to live and relive a harrowing train bombing until he can determine who is responsible for it." These days it seems like Gyllenhaal is balancing his more emotional roles (like in Brothers) with some aggressive action flicks. I don't mind - whatever the genre, I'm just happy to welcome him back to the theater.

Who Do You Think Will Have the Biggest Post-Twilight Career?

Alice Cullen is moving beyond Twilight: Actress Ashley Greene is in talks for a ghostly film titled The Apparition. The story follows a couple who is haunted after an experiment goes awry. Greene would play the female lead, so no more playing second fiddle to Bella!

I'll be honest, I wasn't all that familiar with Greene - or some of the other New Moon actors - before Twilight took off. Kristen Stewart's career was perhaps the most well known, but the gang's notoriety couldn't even touch the recognition they receive now. They're already landing big-name magazine covers, and I'm sure films like The Apparition are just the tip of the iceberg for Greene and the group as Twilight mania continues.

It makes me curious though - who do you think is going to get the most out of the film's success? Obviously, your first pick might be heartthrob Robert Pattinson, but let's not forget that it's sometimes hard for an actor to break out of a role that made him huge, since everyone associates them with the part. Maybe Kristen Stewart is a stronger choice since she had already established a growing career before Twilight took over? Or maybe even someone who's more on the sidelines, like Kellan Lutz?

New Roles For Bradley Cooper, Isla Fisher, and JT!

Today is packed with casting news for some of my favorite stars:

Isla Fisher's name is floating around for a new comedy titled Desperados. The story follows a woman who sends a nasty email to the new guy she's seeing after he goes MIA. after they have sex. I'm already a fan of Fisher, plus they're describing it as The Hangover for women - so you know I'm on board!

Speaking of The Hangover, Bradley Cooper is picking up a new gig. He'll be replacing Shia LaBeouf for Dark Fields, a thriller following a writer who ingests a few pills to better his career. What he gets is success, women - and a group of shady characters in pursuit. Comparisons are being drawn to Fight Club with Brad Pitt, so Fields could be just what Cooper needs to complete his ascent into leading man status.
Lastly, Justin Timberlake is in talks to voice Boo Boo, alongside Dan Aykroyd and Anna Faris in the live-action/CGI version of the classic cartoon Yogi Bear. You know how I feel about the live-action/CGI combo, but you've got to admit that picturing Timberlake as a fuzzy bear in a bow tie is kinda funny. Hope he brings the pic-a-nic basket!

I think my favorite of these three may just be Isla Fisher's, but which project are you most excited for?

Danny Boyle's Next Project Will Climb to 127 Hours

After the slums of Mumbai, where will Danny Boyle go next? To the mountains: the Oscar recipient for Best Director for Slumdog Millionaire has signed on for his next project, 127 Hours. The film centers on the real-life plight of climber Aron Ralston, who got pinned under a boulder during an excursion in 2003 and saved himself by cutting off his own arm with a dull knife.

The title undoubtedly refers to the length of Ralston's ordeal, which could be boring or just stressful in the hands of someone else, but Boyle is known for his ability to tackle harrowing material (see: Trainspotting and 28 Days Later). I already can't wait to see this because of Boyle and the story itself; it reminds me of Into the Wild - that is, if things had ended differently for Christopher McCandless.

Jolie + Depp = Hottest On-Screen Couple Ever?

In what can only be described as a match made in Hollywood heaven, Johnny Depp may be Angelina Jolie's next leading man. The actor is in talks to star opposite Jolie in The Tourist, a film that Jolie snatched up when Charlize Theron left it behind. Depp would play the American tourist, a role that Sam Worthington was originally slated for.

The film's had a lot of big names attached to it already (including Tom Cruise, in addition to Theron and Worthington), so I'm trying not to get my hopes too high for this one. But Jolie and Depp together on the big screen could be legendary, and not just because they're both smokin' hot. While I think they'd have some seriously good chemistry, I'd also love to see the talented actors go head to head on the big screen.

Of course, if Depp signs on, it could be a nail in the coffin for Pirates of the Caribbean 4, but how do you feel about this news?

Patrick Dempsey to Move From the Hospital to the Bank

Patrick Dempsey is finally breaking out of his romantic comedy pigeonhole - sort of. He's set to star in an untitled heist film, penned by the guys behind The Hangover. Don't get your hopes up to see Dempsey as a bad-boy bank robber, though - he'll be playing a man "caught in the middle of two different robberies at the same bank who tries to protect a bank teller with whom he's secretly in love."

Sounds like it could have potential to be cheesy, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore can keep the plot line on the edgier side and hit another home run.

Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin to Host the Oscars - Together!

Earlier today I was sad to hear that Robert Downey Jr. and Ben Stiller had turned down an offer to host the Oscars together, but the biggest awards show of the year has landed an equally hilarious duo: Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin! The comedians will team up to take over for Hugh Jackman, and I'm already giddy thinking about the high jinks that will ensue. I love that we're getting two well-seasoned vets in the humor department (a la Billy Crystal), and we've already seen how great these guys are together after Steve's guest appearance on 30 Rock last season.

So many questions come to mind: Will there be duets? Dance numbers? (Man, I hope so). Are you excited for dual hosting duties or are you worried that we'll get another harried repeat of the 2008 Emmys?

Owen Wilson to Bring Marmaduke to the Big Screen

Marmaduke, the comic strip about a giant-sized Great Dane and his owners, finally has a voice. Owen Wilson - who's no stranger to working with dogs, given Marley and Me - has just signed on to lend his voice to the trouble-making pooch in the half CGI, half live-action film set to hit theaters next Summer.

Generally speaking, I'm not a huge fan of the animated and live-person combo. It rarely works when actors are talking to cartoons (one exception being Who Framed Roger Rabbit?), but obviously I'm not the target audience here. Plus, Marmaduke does have some of my favorite people in it, including Judy Greer and Lee Pace who both play humans in the film, and hopefully the movie will offer us adults a dose of humor, too.

Do you think Wilson is a good choice to voice Marmaduke? Anyone you would've rather seen in the role?
