Get the Look: Elizabeth Arden's "Pretty"

I've been coveting the look of the new print ads for Elizabeth Arden's new fragrance, Pretty. The vibrant flowering wallpaper in the background is over-the-top glam, as is the silk-upholstered loveseat. The print ad definitely borrows from Sofia Coppola's film, pushing a Marie Antoinette vibe.

The look of the print ad relies heavily on the antique loveseat, so you'll want to find the perfect seating option. What's Buzzworthy: Movies With Great Costumes

In the spirit of the upcoming Halloween holiday and costuming and masquerade, I made this week's Buzzworthy challenge all about movies with great costumes, and the results were dazzling! I feel the need to check out each of these movies all over again just to get some inspiration for my own Halloween costume this year. Below are some of the bookmarked movies that I chose to highlight and then a widget including all of the selected titles.

Breakfast at Tiffany's
Bookmarked by gruaig_rua, Breakfast at Tiffany's is a classic costume movie! That sleek black dress, the gloves, and the pearls have become iconic in cinematic - and pop culture - history.

The Last Emperor

Marie Antoinette
This title was bookmarked by Kerry G who has quite the eye for fashion. There is actually not very much dialogue in this film, which is just fine by me because I'd be distracted by the outrageously beautiful and candy-colored costumes. I'm glad this film won the Oscar for Best Costumes this year.

Tristan and Isolde
tdamji's pick features stunning costumes in lush colors and fabrics. She even linked to a site that has some beautiful stills from the movie, which takes place during a period of lords and ladies, royalty and chivalry. Swoon!

Fabcon: Sofia Coppola

Sofia Coppola's style can best be described as unfussy, cool and classic. We are talking about one of Marc Jacob's muses here (lucky!). While one may point out she wears a lot of black, 'tis true, but so do other icons such as Kate Moss and Diana Vreeland. Black is one of the truest colors of fashion, and as every woman knows, it's slimming too. But I just love it when Sofia does play with color; it's usually in the form of bolds such as red or pink, or understated with off-white.

The daughter of legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia is talented in other areas than fashion. She is an accomplished film director, actress, producer and Academy Award-winning screenwriter. I would also like to point out that she is the first American woman and third woman in history to be nominated for an Academy Award for Directing.

Sofia is just so cool. She is considered a pop culture icon within the indie music and film communities, in Paris and Tokyo especially. It figures she would have fashion sense - as a child she stayed in the wardrobe department of her father's films, and did you know that in high school, she interned with Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel? As well, in 1998 she co-founded the clothing line Milkfed in Japan with friend Stephanie Hayman and Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon. I so remember Milkfed! It was very Beastie girlie - it was sold alongside the Beastie Boys clothing line X-Large back in the day.

While The Virgin Suicides continues to be my favorite film by Sofia, it's just so beautifully melancholy, Marie Antoinette also provided some serious eye, and ear, candy. What's next for Sofia? I can't wait to see.

The Palette: Pastel tones galore, with a hint of silky shimmer. Coppola has said that the film's production design was keyed to the colors she found in a box of macaroons. Try whimsical floral wallpapers or curtains.

The Furniture: To pay homage to Marie’s man, a Louis XVI chair is a must. The Phillipe Starck Louis Ghost Chair ($365) is the epitome of baroque seating-revisited. This ornate Open Carved Headboard ($599) creates the perfect place to get your royal shut-eye, and it comes in queen size.

The Accents: Vinyl wall decal silhouettes ($11) of the “dauphin” and his wife are very appropriate, and are an updated form of the classic artwork. Place them directly on your wall, or frame them on a candy-colored background.

The Lighting: Light up the luxe with the Duffy London Glo-Canvas CHA-03 ($475), a stretched canvas printed with your very own chandelier. A candelabra is also a necessity for wandering through the east wing of your castle at night, but it’s the 21st century, so try a Lucite one ($65).

Marie Antoinette's $900 Perfume

Move over, Clive Christian-you've got company in the ranks of priciest perfumes.

Yesterday, FabSugar and I went to an event previewing an upcoming Marie Antoinette exhibition at San Francisco's Legion of Honor. It was there that I was able to smell Marie Antoinette Sillage de la Reine, a luxurious fragrance that costs $900 for 25ml.

Marie Antoinette Sillage de la Reine was created by French perfume maker Francis Kurkdjian, who recreated Marie Antoinette's signature fragrance. In that sense, it's a ghost of a perfume, but the scent is anything but faint. To see what went inside this limited-edition perfume, read more

Kurkdjian based his work on A Scented Palace: The Secret History of Marie-Antoinette’s Perfumer by Elizabeth Feydeau. The book explores the notes of the queen's Versailles perfumer, and from this information Kurkdjian was able to recreate her beloved scent.

The fragrance is entirely natural, which is why it was initially a bit strong for Fab and me. But it does smell very regal-as it should, of course. It contains rose, iris, cut jasmine, tuberose and orange blossom. Woody touches of cedar and sandalwood are also present, with the sandalwood more fragrant to my nose than the cedar. Additionally, it has notes of Tonkin musk (that's, um, the content of Himalayan goats' glands) and grey amber.

It was such a wonderful treat to smell such a rare fragrance, and it did transport me into another time (if only for a moment). If you are the kind of high roller who wants to smell like a queen, you'll be able to purchase Marie Antoinette Sillage de la Reine this fall from the de Young/Legion of Honor Museum Store in San Francisco. Proceeds from the perfume's sale will help restore an area used by Marie-Antoinette at Versailles.

Finally, if you think $900 is expensive, wait until you hear how much the "prestige" edition cost. Decanted into a Baccarat crystal container, and limited to only 10 worldwide, it sells abroad for 8,000 euros-just over $11,000. In contrast, $900 is a bargain, eh?

Babel
Earning, among others, a Best Picture nomination, Babel has gotten a lot of buzz for its universal themes and good-looking cast. Set in three continents and featuring five languages, the film follows four different stories revolving around the aftermath of a shooting in the Moroccan desert. The strong performances, compelling story, and sharp cinematography make it an obvious Best Picture nominee. For a more in-depth look at Babel, check out my review.

The Prestige
Visually arresting, The Prestige is nominated for both Art Direction and Cinematography. This dark psychological thriller follows two rival magicians at the beginning of the 20th century. As they try to outdo each other, their acts become more and more dangerous until they turn deadly. The engaging cast includes Michael Caine, David Bowie, Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, and Scarlett Johansson.

Marie Antoinette
This film came out last Tuesday, but it goes well with these other new releases, having earned an Oscar nomination for Costume Design and all. Certainly the bright, beautiful period clothes featured in Sofia Coppola's stylized depiction of the young Marie Antoinette are impressive enough to warrant a viewing of the film. Kirsten Dunst stars as Marie, the naive Austrian princess who became the Queen of France at age 19. The film follows her betrothal to Louis XVI (Jason Schwartzman) at age 15, through her reign as Queen and the eventual fall of Versailles.

Oscar Nominee: Marie Antoinette for Best Costumes

Every week up until the Oscars, I'll be featuring the nominees in the various visual categories. This week, I'll be looking at the nominees for best costumes, and today's featured movie is Marie Antoinette.

Sofia Coppola did some interesting things with this story trying to make it "cool" and palatable for today's youth-obsessed culture. Yet, the outcome basically resembles a modern-day music video, complete with hip songs and bright, flashy costumes. The costumes have caught the eye of the Academy, and rightfully so. The rich, candy-like colors and textures remind me of sugary-sweet, powder-puff confections, making for a visually dazzling film. A Different Kind of Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette was warmly received in LA last night after being booed at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. More importantly, however, Kirsten Dunst was looking way better last night than she has been lately. The screening was sponsored by Chanel at the Chateau Marmont. Sofia looked stunning as usual in a Chanel Spring '07 pleated chiffon dress while Kirsten cleaned up well in her Christian LaCroix halter gown.

Here is the latest trailer for the movie, which looks excellent. I'm a fan of Sofia's films and this one looks great.

Dunst Thinks She Is Marie Antoinette

Kirsten and Sophia have a special bond that extends past their mutual admiration for Marc Jacobs. Unfortunately their latest collaboration, Marie Antoinette, was supposedly booed at the Cannes Film Festival. Here's more:

In Coppola's movies, Dunst is not so much playing a character as playing a piece of herself, the actress said.

"I've noticed in roles, why I hate watching myself certain times is because I know that I'm not being honest. It's not me, and somebody is putting their views on how they think a woman should be, how they view me as a person. Maybe they don't always get you, so it doesn't feel honest when I'm watching it, so it's uncomfortable for me," Dunst said.

"When I watch myself in Sofia's movies, it's scarier, because I feel more vulnerable, but it's closer to who I am. It's more than closer to who I am. It is me."

At its first press screening, "Marie Antoinette" drew wildly mixed reactions, earning solid applause from admirers and sharp boos from many French critics.

Coppola and her cast shrugged it off, saying "Marie Antoinette" was not a film for all tastes.

America's Next Top Model Quiz: "Make Me Tall"

Top Model - either you're amazingly campy and over-the-top or . . . you're boring. Unfortunately last night's episode was the latter. There is very little drama, Tyra is barely in it, and everyone keeps belaboring the fact that these girls are short. Even the episode is titled "Make Me Tall." Note to Tyra: if you're going to "revolutionize" the modeling industry by introducing short-er girls, then, as Marie Antoinette might say, "let them be short."
