Movie Preview: Matt Damon in Green Zone

Matt Damon is officially a Hollywood juggernaut. Not only does he have a ton of movies in the works (a Liberace biopic, an Eastwood film, and as of today a new project with the Coen brothers), and here's a peek at his upcoming thriller Green Zone. Even though I've been anxiously awaiting a fourth Bourne installment, Green Zone looks like a worthy substitute for the time being. (No doubt because it's directed by Paul Greengrass, who worked on the Bourne franchise.)

Damon is back to kicking butt and taking names as Roy Miller, an Army officer on the search for weapons of mass destruction. During his journey, Miller seeks the help of a journalist (Amy Ryan) and gets tangled up with an underhanded higher-up (Greg Kinnear). As a result of his sniffing around where he's not supposed to, Miller soon ends up with a giant bull's-eye on his head. Dun, dun, dun!

While the storyline doesn't sound entirely fresh, you can still count me in for this one. The trailer has that edge-of-your-seat suspense vibe, and with Damon and Greengrass working together, I know I'm sure to be entertained. It doesn't hit theaters until March 12, 2010, but you can watch the preview when you read more.

Matt's Out In Merry Mayfair

Matt Damon was casually bundled up against the cold out in Mayfair, London over the weekend, against the backdrop of the capital's magical Christmas lights. He's still over here working on the movie Green Zone, which means we're getting lots of peeks at him in the UK as he socialises in his down time. His next movie will be The Human Factor which will be directed by Clint Eastwood and will costar Morgan Freeman, and examines the life of Nelson Mandela after the fall of apartheid, as South Africa hosts a rugby tournament. I'm looking forward to that one, but seeing gorgeous Matt on the big screen in any movie is certainly never a bad thing!

Matt Damon Has Plenty of Clothes on His Back to Give Away

Matt Damon spent his Thanksgiving in the states serving food to the needy like his BFF Ben, but yesterday he was back to work overseas. He was all bundled up to face the cold in London on the set of Green Zone. Matt's charitable efforts weren't left behind in the states though - he's one of the many celebrities signing a bowl to be put up for auction at Clothes off our Back's 'Fill a Bowl, Feed America' campaign. Matt might have to spend part of the holiday season on the set, but clearly the spirit of giving is still very much on his mind.

Matt Damon Gets Into the Zone

Matt Damon was hard at work on the set of Green Zone in London on Tuesday, getting into character as a US soldier. We've gotten used to Matt's Boston accessories, but the sooner we see him in costume, the sooner we get him up on the big screen. While we're sure this isn't his mom's favorite onscreen ensemble, anything is a step up from the double denim and, let's be honest, he looks great no matter what he's wearing.

Matt Damon Keeps Boston Close to His Heart

Matt Damon was still representing his hometown yesterday, this time including a sweatshirt. He's been spending time overseas filming Green Zone, where he plays a CIA agent so hopefully soon we'll see him in character. We admire that Matty loves Boston so much that he wears as much gear as possible but we wouldn't mind seeing him in costume since his recent attire has been a bit questionable.

Matt and Emily Get Touched up While Adjusting

Matt Damon spent yesterday afternoon working on the NYC set of The Adjustment Bureau. The actor has been getting to know his costar Emily Blunt over lunch on breaks from shooting, but most of his downtime is spent with his wife and daughters. He and Emily were together to shoot scenes in the early evening, but she was soon off to join her real life leading man John Krasinski at the 24 Hour Plays. Matt filled up this year with charity projects, family travel, and work including two very different movies that are coming out over the next few months - Oscar-buzzy Invictus and action filled The Green Zone.

Rewind: This Week's Buzz

We got a double whammy of Matt Damon movie previews: Invictus and Green Zone, and the busy guy is in talks for the next Coen brothers movie.
What shows have been canceled, picked up for full seasons, or renewed? I racked up the results on my Fall TV scorecard and a late-week update.
I chit-chatted with some of my favorite TV stars this week; read my interviews with FlashForward's Sonya Walger and Parks and Recreation's Chris Pratt and Rashida Jones.
Many lovely ladies made movie casting news this week, including Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Biel, Diane Kruger and January Jones.
Michael Jackson's tribute doc This Is It premiered Wednesday, so I caught a show and gave it my review - and stamp of approval.
Good news for Hollywood's funnymen: Ricky Gervais is set to host the Golden Globes, while Steve Carell scored a role in a gold comedy, and Adam Sandler is going to play both Jack and Jill in his next movie.
The Office characters one-upped their own show with the webisode music video for "Male Prima Donna" by Subtle Sexuality.
The Martin Scorcese biopic is full steam ahead, with Leo as the top choice for both you guys and Martin Scorsese.

Movie Preview: Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman in Invictus

Hope you haven't OD'd on Matt Damon yet! Just yesterday I showed you a preview of his upcoming Jason Bourne-esque action flick, Green Zone and today we get a peek at Invictus. In the upcoming film from Clint Eastwood, Damon stars as a Francois Pienaar, real-life member of South Africa's rugby team who's summoned by Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) to rally support in the country and unite the racial divide.

I love Matt Damon, but I'm actually more interested in Freeman's performance in Invictus. It looks like one well-done biopic, and it's obviously Freeman's Oscar film - although I'm sure Damon doing an accent could translate into a nomination for him around awards time, too. (Not to mention that many things Eastwood touches turn to Oscar nods).

Warning: If cheering crowd scenes and African singing often play with your emotions, you may get goose bumps while watching this preview. Check it out, and tell me what you think when you read more.
