I ain't knocking the effort here — I think it's fantastic that so many celebrities use their fame to try and get people to care about things like presidential elections. And offering an incentive for registering to vote — as Sheryl Crow is offering a free digital copy of her album Detours — is a cool thing to do.
That said, would a free Sheryl Crow album motivate you to register to vote (if you weren't already registered)?

Penelope Cruz joined Pedro Almodovar in Rome on Saturday for a Broken Embraces photo call at the city's famous Trevi Fountain. She's back on the promotional trail after a brief detour to Bali, where she met up with Javier Bardem at the beach during one of his breaks from filming Eat, Pray, Love. Penelope has been the subject of many rumors about her personal life recently, but she's going to be all business for the next few months with her travels on behalf of her film with Pedro and the upcoming Nine and she was already at LAX again yesterday.

Sorry for the hyperbole, but I'm pretty sure this week's episode of The Vampire Diaries, "Haunted," is the best one of the season so far. The Halloween setting is perfect for playing out Vicki's vampiric transition, Bonnie's exploration of her mysterious genealogical history, and the exposing of "The Council."
There's plenty to talk about, so let's chat about the good, the bad, and the bloody (spoilers aplenty ahead!) when you read more

Crawling into bed after freshly washing your sheets is one of life's little pleasures. Over the weekend, while I was perusing the goods at Bed, Bath & Beyond, I took a detour down the candle aisle. There was a special on Yankee Candle Clean Cotton candles ($2 to $15), so I picked up the small, sample size.

Looking like the quintessential California girl, Sheryl Crow knows she has plenty to smile about. After all, her sixth album, Detours, has been nominated for a Grammy. Whether she wins or not, I think she deserves a gold star for looking simultaneously elegant and carefree.

As part of her UNHCR United Nations Human Rights work, she traveled to Thailand to pay a visit to the camps filled with Myanmar refugees, some who have been there for their entire lives. Angelina sat down to talk to refugees, including teenage girls and young women very scared about what their future holds.

The iconic work of Italian designer Piero Fornasetti featuring the enigmatic face of soprano Lina Cavalieri has enjoyed many interpretations in the design world as of late. Now, the victorious imagery has been re-envisioned as animated art. First in a series of three limited editions, Detour Design has created an animated DVD featuring many of the over 500 Fornasetti images slowly moving and morphing into artistic shapes, meant as purely visual decorative art for your flat screen.

On Monday, John McCain took a detour from the typical campaign trail to make his special baby back ribs recipe on Rachael Ray's daytime show. Here are some interesting things I learned from watching him demonstrate his signature dish on TV:
- Apparently, the potential president gets his ribs from Costco. Rachael Ray seemed surprised: "I've been to Costco, [but] I just didn't picture you two with a cart!"
- To my surprise, McCain seemed very confident in his cooking skills.
