Over the weekend Reading and Leeds were full of fantastic live music from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bloc Party, Radiohead, La Roux, Kaiser Chiefs and many more. Listen Up: "One More Chance" by Bloc Party

Officially releasing Aug. 10, "One More Chance" is the latest single from Bloc Party and it is one super-charged, danceable tune. It also makes me want to drive somewhere fast. Or, you know . . . jog (see, Fit? I think about exercising). The song pulses with such synthpop-y intensity, you kind of start to forget that the lyrics are so repetitive. It's pretty much ready for the clubs right now.

PopUK's New Release Roundup!

Welcome to my roundup of this week's new releases! First up, Tropic Thunder comes out on DVD this week, so if you missed it at the cinema you can check out Robert Downey Jr's Oscar-nominated performance as appearance-changing serious Australian actor Kirk Lazurus. Ben Stiller directed, wrote and stars in the movie, Jack Black costars and Tom Cruise has a great cameo as a studio head. Also released is the BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens' Little Dorrit, with Matthew Macfadyen.

Lily Allen's "The Fear" is released to download this week, along with Ida Maria's "Oh My God", Fleet Foxes "Mykonos", and Bloc Party's "One Month Off". Franz Ferdinand release their new album Tonight - listen here - and LA based band The Bird and The Bee put out their fab Ray Guns Are Not Just The Future - listen on myspace.

Looking forward to Friday's movie releases, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet reunite in Revolutionary Road - an adaptation of the fantastic Richard Yates novel. On the slightly more indie side of things, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist also comes out, starring Michael Cera and Kat Dennings and telling the story of how Nick and Norah meet, and what plays out over their night in New York.

What to Download: New Music on iTunes

Tuesdays are big in entertainmentville: Not only do all the new DVD releases hit Netflix, but new music also pours into stores, including iTunes. So I take a spin through each week's iTunes music releases and pick out some albums and tracks worthy of a download. In addition to my selections below you can download new albums from Pink and Snow Patrol. Here's what's on my list this week:

The making of a Legend: I like John Legend and I feel like he's the perfect pick for when I'm in a romantic and/or chillaxed mood. His new album sounds pretty fun. I'm enjoying a duet with Andre 3000 called "Green Light," a sweet song called "No Other Love" featuring Estelle with a nice rasta-beat beneath it, and "This Time" is pretty and different-sounding for Legend. It's good to hear him getting up from the piano and mixing it up a little. Oh, and "I Love, You Love" sounds like wedding mix material.

The Cure for your ears: For what it's worth, The Cure's new album is earning some high praise from music critics. The Guardian called the band's thirteenth studio album "admirably taut and vibrant" and Blender declares, "here's the new soundtrack to Saturday night." Fun! I'm enjoying the upbeat song, "The Only One" and "Underneath the Stars" is another good one.

So dramatic: Bloc Party's always had a flair for the dramatics as a band and you know what? I like it. I'm excited that their new album is out today and have had a good time checking out their new songs! So far my faves include the catchy "Signs," the spacey "Better Than Heaven," and the hard-driving "Halo."

Monsters Of Rock At Reading and Leeds

This weekend the massive Reading and Leeds festivals took place with performances from Metallica, Dirty Pretty Things, Manic Street Preachers, Rage Against The Machine, The Last Shadow Puppets, Bloc Party and oh so many more. A bored-looking Kate Moss watched from the sound desk as her man Jamie Hince got down on one knee in front of his bandmate Alison Mosshart during The Kills' set. Meanwhile Alexa Chung hung out with Alex Turner and his bandmate Miles Kane on the grass at Leeds – what do you think of her festival look?

As much fun as it was, the festival was not without a couple of less appealing moments. Rumours of an unannounced Foo Fighters set caused chaos at a BBC tent, and a fire at Reading spread to 19 vehicles in a car park, originally caused by a barbecue. Still, most people had a great time – and some extra amusement was brought to the stage by Jack Black and Kyle Gass aka Tenacious D, who wore a couple of fabulous costumes. I love Kyle's monster outfit!

Sugar Bits - Warrant Issued For Pete After Court No-Show

NME Awards 2008: Big Gig & Afterparty

As we've learned over this awards season, for every ceremony there must be at least one afterparty. The NME Awards last night were no exception – But not only did they have an afterparty, they went one step further, putting on a massive gig with Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs and Manic Street Preachers as some of the acts playing. Meanwhile Agyness Deyn and Carl Barat were dancing up a storm, and Peaches Geldof danced cheek to cheek with Patrick Wolf.

The sadder news of the night was that Vampire Weekend drummer Chris Thompson was injured in a car accident on his way out of the London venue and has sustained a head injury, he was taken to the Royal London Hospital for treatment. Lets hope he makes a full recovery.

2007 SXSW: A Festival in Photos

Most of us weren't lucky enough to get down to Austin for Southwest by Southwest, but that doesn't mean we can't relive the experience through good music and very cool photos. (Combine the two, and it's almost like being at a concert!)

Looking through some of the best shots from SXSW, I was struck by what a British Invasion there was this year, from keynote speaker Pete Townsend to much-discussed performances by Lily Allen, Bloc Party, Amy Winehouse, and The Pipettes (above). I've got photos from all of those shows and more, so check out my SXSW gallery when you read more
