Weinstein Co. to Make Live-Action Fraggle Rock Movie

Guess what? It's time to "Dance your cares away/ Worry's for another day/ Let the music play/ Down at Fraggle Rock!" The Fraggles are back! According to Variety, the Weinsteins are teaming up with Lisa Henson of the Jim Henson Company to bring a live-action, half-human half-puppet Fraggle Rock extravaganza to the big screen. Check it out:

Just like the series, the film will be populated by a mix of human characters and Fraggle Rock puppets. . .Pic will take the core characters Gobo, Wembley, Mokey, Boober and Red outside of their home in Fraggle Rock, where they interact with humans, which they think are aliens. The show premiered on HBO in 1983, ran five seasons and was broadcast in more than 80 countries. It posted strong sales recently when the first three seasons were released on DVD.

Awww! I'm excited about this news for so many reasons, but first and foremost: Hooray for no CGI! It'll be so great to get some good old-fashioned puppets, just like we'll get with Jason Segel's Muppet project. Plus, I can't wait to see some Fraggle musical production numbers choreographed for the big screen - and hopefully accompanied by Gobo on his gourd guitar.

Whoa! Project Runway Dumps Bravo for Lifetime

Without question, Project Runway is Bravo's biggest hit. So it's nothing short of shocking that come this Fall, the show's going to be airing on Lifetime instead.

Yup, the show that helped make Bravo a household name is jumping ship, with a new season set to begin airing in November on Lifetime. According to Lifetime's press release, the move is part of a deal that will give the show a home on Lifetime for the next five years.

A couple of curious things:

The press release talks about Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn moving along with the show, but there's nary a mention of Michael Kors or Nina Garcia.
The press release is all about the sixth season starting in November. What will happen to season five, which Bravo apparently has the rights to air? Will Bravo somehow squeeze in another season before the jump? Or could both Bravo and Lifetime's versions of the show air at the same time, as one writer speculates? Open auditions were already being held in New York over the weekend
Will this actually hold up? NBC has filed a lawsuit to try to stop the move, which the Lifetime statement acknowledges.

What a coup for Lifetime - and what a loss for Bravo! What do you make of the news? Do you care where the show airs, just as long as it's on? And would you be bummed if Kors and Garcia were done on Runway?

Basterds Hits NYC With Help From Diane, LL, Chace and More

It was another star-studded evening celebrating Inglourious Basterds at a screening in NYC last night. Quentin Tarantino and the movie's stars - minus Brad Pitt, who is apparently back in France with his family - gathered with some celebrity friends at the Cinema Society event. Lindsay Lohan, who has been working with Quentin's friend Robert Rodriguez on Machete, hit the red carpet, as did Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford and Sebastian Stan. Diane Kruger was once again one of the boys with the mostly male cast. This weekend's NY Times put a lot of pressure on this movie to help salvage the reputation of the Weinstein Company and this weekend we'll see if all the promotion from Diane, Brad, Eli, BJ, Quentin and more is enough to lure people out to see the ambitious film.

Fab Flash: The Battle Over Project Runway Continues

The drama continues: Bravo and Lifetime are still fighting over Project Runway. The Weinstein Co. has filed an appeal after a judge ruling in NBC's favor blocking the show's move from Bravo to Lifetime.

“Obviously we will be appealing and remain committed to our partners,” said the company.

As the companies battle it out, everything will remain the same and season six filming continues - with its home to be determined.

NBC Universal, who was ordered to pay a $20 million bond, and The Weinstein Co. are due back in court Oct. 15 to (finally) settle the matter. With everything up in the air, we can't but wonder if Nina Garcia and Marie Claire will still be part of the show. Hopefully, everything will be resolved before the sixth season airs.

Oscar Worthy Gadgets: Vicky Cristina Barcelona's Cameras

Set in Spain and starring breathtakingly gorgeous actors like Scarlett Johansson, Javier Bardem, and the Oscar-nominated Penelope Cruz, Vicky Cristina Barcelona is memorable for its amazing scenery - in the humans and the geography.

A subplot of the film centers around the scenery and visuals when Cristina, played by Johansson, discovers that she's a talented photographer. Her shots frame the other characters and amazing backdrops, but what could I not take my eyes off? The cameras.

Way back in July of '07, I noticed that Scarlett was carrying around a Leica for her role, but that wasn't the only camera she had in the movie. As you can see here, she had a Panasonic Lumix camera. Variety is the spice of life, especially when it comes to gadgets.

Penelope Cruz Has a Starry Night

Penelope Cruz smiled leaving Cipriani's after dinner with Harvey Weinstein in London Thursday night. The Weinstein Company helped with Vicky Cristina Barcelona, which is getting good reviews, and the duo are set to work together again on her next star-studded project Nine. Some of her costars like Kate Hudson and Fergie have already been spotted around London getting ready for the movie, but unfortunately one person Penelope won't be alongside on the big screen is her real-life boyfriend Javier Bardem, who dropped out of the film a while back. Even without hot Jav, it looks like Penelope is having fun with her studio honcho friend Harvey.

Heidi Stays in LA While Project Runway Stays on Bravo

Heidi and Leni Klum left the boys at home yesterday when they went out shopping at The Grove in LA. The Klum-Samuels have been at home for the past few weeks as Heidi prepared to host the Emmys and also started filming season six of Project Runway in LA. The fate of the season is still up in the air, however, as last week a judge ruled that it had to stay on Bravo instead of moving to Lifetime, but the Weinstein Company has already filed an appeal. There's lots happening with Heidi's series behind the scenes, but tonight's episode is sure to bring some drama on-screen.

Ever since I saw Super Size Me alone in the middle of the afternoon eating a McDonald's salad I sneaked in (I think that's what they call irony? Or close anyway . . .), I've been obsessed with Morgan Spurlock and his freakishly accessible yet pointed style of documentary. The man can do no wrong. I'm just as big a fan of this doc for its added bonus: getting to see the real people that live in the countries we read about all the time. Whether he found Osama or not, the film humanizes the far-off region in a way that makes the movie. I want you to own it!

Young Hollywood Gets Some GG Love Too

Most of young Hollywood may not have been at the awards but that doesn't mean they couldn't be at all the after parties. Especially when you are Paris Hilton. It's not like she is ever going to win a GG (oh wait she is taking acting lessons) but she certainly would not miss a good party. Paris was one of the many in metallic that attended the The Weinstein Company party at Trader Vics. There she was able to rub shoulders with those who were lucky enough to make it in - like Vanessa Minnillo who changed into a different dress for the occasion! We liked Mischa's very put together look but once again, we are not feeling the Rosario Dawson bangs.
