So unlikely, and thus, so very funny. The two of them accompany Michael on an "international" business trip to Canada (where they meet "Concierge Marie," played by Reno 911!'s Wendi McLendon-Covey!). Meanwhile, back at the office, Jim's excitement over Pam's return to Scranton ends abruptly when he learns some news.

It's almost like they have been listening to our wish for Pam to come back to the office on The Office because the tiny Bluetooth thing is such a clever way to keep her involved while she's also still pursuing her own goals in New York. That tiny Bluetooth provides a lot of the laughs in this episode, as does Dwight's paranoia about why he received such negative customer reviews. And, of course, Andy and Angela's wedding plans continue to be amusing — especially since they've chosen a location, adding a new twist to the storyline.

I'll admit this wasn't my favorite episode of The Office, but even when it's lukewarm, this show is still one of the highlights of my TV week. I loved seeing all the Halloween costumes in the beginning and I was hoping it would be a whole Halloween episode, but alas, the plot centered on Michael (and Darryl!) helping Holly move, Dwight royally messing with Andy's mind and Pam attempting to team up with Jim's brothers to pull a prank on him.

This week's episode of The Office starts off with Pam working her new part-time job at the Dunder-Mifflin corporate office in New York. Corporate New York Pam has such gorgeous hair! Elsewhere in the episode, Jim starts to feel slightly uneasy about his long-distance relationship with Pam while Holly and Michael's relationship heats up. The office is robbed and Michael decides to hold a "Crime Aid" auction to raise money for the stolen items.

Am I alone in thinking this week's episode of The Office is super emotional? Between the Michael-Holly-Jan triangle and Jim and Pam's out-of-sync phone calls, this episode put the "dram" in "dramedy." However, Astrid (unfortunately misspelled as "Astird") is a hilarious name for a baby. It just keeps making me laugh.

Not so much Pam and Jim on this week's episode of The Office — but lots of Michael and Holly! I love the way Michael is with Holly these days, especially his lines that don't seem to have anything undermining about them (like: "I think we can all totally agree that Holly is totally fantastic."). He's gotten so much sweeter (though he's still Michael, of course). In this episode we learn an "icky" little secret of Meredith's, which puts her job in jeopardy and causes a rift between Michael and Holly. And we get another Jim prank on Dwight! How I've missed those. . .

The hour-long season premiere of The Office found all of our old Dunder-Mifflin favorites taking part in corporate's weight loss challenge. Which ever Dunder-Mifflin branch loses the most weight over the Summer, receives additional vacation days. Pam moves to New York to start her new school program, and Andy tries to plan a wedding while Angela is leading a secret little life. Meanwhile, Stanley celebrates a birthday and works toward a goal of his own.

I thought the episode was a great kickstart to the new season. And did anyone else notice Mad Men's Harry Crane (actor Rich Sommer) in this episode?!

The Office Rundown: Episode 14, "Goodbye, Toby Parts 1 & 2"

OMG, where to start?! The season finale of The Office was so. Freaking. Great. I honestly think this is hugely due to Amy Ryan's spot-on performance as the new HR lady at Dunder-Mifflin. I loved her! And then there were all the twists and turns (that didn't just have to do with Pam and Jim, like that very last scene!). And the whole storyline with Kevin is, I think, one of the funniest, cleverest things I've seen on television in a long time.

The going-away party for Toby was amazing! It made me so happy for the new party planner in town, Phyllis, as though she's an actual person I know in real life. Sometimes I think I get too involved in these shows. I really wanted to give her a hug.

Also, thanks to Creed, there now exists the job title of "Quabity Aschwitz." Amazing.

OK, the awkwardness at the job fair: funny, or just awkward? Jim's persistence with the guy at the golf course: ambitious drive and dedication, or just desperate? Lately I've been torn about the episodes of The Office. The parts that make me the happiest are the cutesy moments between Pam and Jim, but I don't laugh as much anymore. Do you think The Office is falling into same ol', same ol' territory? Or do you find it as fresh and funny as ever?

This week Michael brings a few of the employees to a high school job fair to recruit an intern. Everyone back at the office decides to leave early (to Dwight's outrage) — except for Angela. Meanwhile, Jim hits the golf course with Andy and Kevin and attempts to woo a client.

The Office Rundown: Episode 12, "Did I Stutter?"

After last week's trip to the NYC nightclub, this episode of The Office took us back to, well, the actual office. I'm generally in favor of the episodes that take place inside Dunder-Mifflin, but this one was a little strange for me — draggy in parts, then funny, then draggy again.

I do love me some Stanley, though, and this episode was a great showcase for him at his prickly, disrespectful best. His contempt for Michael really showed through. Speaking of contempt, Ryan stopped by the D-M offices with some harsh words for Jim, and Andy and Dwight displayed their manliness (sort of) by fighting over Andy's car. And we got to learn Pam's middle name and see her in her granny glasses, so those are both points in the episode's favor.

Man, Ryan is a schmuck! I loved this episode of The Office in that it paired up Ryan's ridiculous cockiness with Michael's cluelessness and Dwight's bizarre social skills and set it all the "hip" environment of a nightclub.

Meanwhile, back at Dunder-Mifflin, Jim has everyone work late so they don't have to come into the office the next day. Problem: the gate out of the parking lot is locked. While trapped together, Toby makes a big announcement.

The Office Rundown: Episode 10, "The Chair Model"

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh — can we talk about the thing with Pam and Jim? Ack! I don't want to write anything that will be a spoiler here, so after the jump let's discuss this whole thing at greater length.

Elsewhere in this episode of The Office, the nearby construction company is parking in the Dunder-Mifflin staff spaces, causing them to park further away from the office (a 10- or 30-minute walk, depending on who you ask). Meanwhile, Michael is living up the single life, requiring his employees to set him up on dates, and pining after a chair model in a catalog. I'm not sure this episode was hilariously funny, but it certainly kept my attention. And I'm glad to have an episode set in the office again.

The Office Rundown: Episode 9, "Dinner Party"

Welcome back, Dunderheads! It's been a long few months since we last hung out at The Office, and it was unquestionably good to see the crew back on screen this week. It was almost a relief — just like Michael releasing that pent-up "That's what she said!" must have been.

That said — and it's so hard to quibble after so much time off — I spent more time cringing than laughing in this episode. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as The Office does squirmy humor better than anyone else on television. I think for a first night back, I would have preferred something awkward but laugh-out-loud funny, and maybe something also set in the office so we could have reconnected with more characters. I've complained before about The Office leaving the office too much, and the same applies here — though, in the end, it's outweighed by the goodness of some serious Michael/Jan dysfunction and the wonderful feeling I get just from having the show back. Here were some of my favorite parts:

So, we know Michael's desperate to have friends, but desperate enough to stage a overtime work assignment for everyone, even the folks he's not inviting? Then again, once you get turned down nine different times, it must start to feel dire.
Michael's excuse for not inviting Dwight: "It's couples only. And besides, I only have six wine glasses."
Which is funnier: The version of the opening when Dwight runs away from the camera crew after the dinner party question, or the one where he sat there and sobbed? I'm going to have to go with the running-away one from the commercials, personally.

The Office Rundown: Episode 8, "The Deposition"

Wow, this week's episode of The Office is a little more intense than usual! I found myself feeling sort of angry, in fact. Though of course, there are plenty of laughs to be found as well. I loved-loved-loved the Pam/Kelly ping-pong smackdown. And any time a stenographer reads off Michael Scott quotes in monotone is going to be hi-larious.

Check out some of my favorite parts from this week's last episode of The Office for... well, until the writers strike is over. Sad!

Michael has Pam make up messages to bring him in meetings. She brings him a post-it note that says “Good Morning.”
During a meeting with Ryan, she brings him one with a drawing of a dancing hot dog and the words, “Hiya, Buddy!”
Jan and Michael practice what Michael’s going to say at the deposition so "we wouldn’t leave anything up to chance or Michael’s judgment."
Kelly: “I don’t talk trash, I talk smack. They’re totally different. Trash talk is all hypothetical, like, 'Your mama’s so fat she could eat the internet.' But smack talk is happening like, right now, like, 'You’re ugly and I know it for a fact cuz I got the evidence right there.'"

The Office Rundown: Episode 7, "Survivor Man"

So, in a normal week, this is when I'd write something about how The Office seemed just a bit off last night. It might be when I'd wonder why every episode this season has had a significant part of the action happen outside the actual office, even though the office bits are what makes the show so relatable and funny. But knowing it's the next-to-last episode for who knows how long makes me want to go easy on the show. After all, "Survivor Man" still gave me some of the best laughs I've gotten from TV this week, from Michael's duct-taped pants to Jim's iron fist cracking down on the birthday celebrations. Here were some of my favorite parts:

Even when Ryan's not in an episode, he can still be a jerk! He didn't invite Michael on the wilderness retreat, so Michael decided to take to the woods himself. Michael to Jim: "Hypothetically, if I were to ask you to go camping — and you know what a hypothetical means? Not real?"
What have they done to Toby? His weird, greasy bangs were just gross.
Michael tells Jim he needs to get away from the office for a while — "All the cliques and the office politics, fluorescent lights, asbestos — "
Jim: "I thought we had that looked at."

The Office Rundown: Episode 6, "Branch Wars"

Karen's back! At least for this week's episode of The Office, Karen makes a return appearance, and she's clearly not over Jim yet. Also, she extends an offer to Stanley to join her sales team at the Utica office. When Stanley tells Michael about this, Michael, Dwight and Jim go on a mission to send the message to Karen that if she "poaches" Stanley, the will "burn Utica to the ground."

Yet another solid, classic half-hour of Office goodness. Check out the lines and moments I loved most this week:

Michael rigs a Ferris Bueller’s Day Off-style dummy that activates a tape with a snoring sound to make it look like Michael's sleeping at his desk.
Stanley: "I don’t understand why sleeping at your desk is better than you not being here."
Michael: “You can’t take the funny black guy from the office! ... I don’t know how George Bush did it when Colin Powell left."

The Office Rundown: Episode 5, "Local Ad"

This week The Office returned to its half-hour format, and I couldn't be happier. I thought this week's episode was pitch-perfect, classic Office goodness. Michael is determined to make a Dunder-Mifflin commercial that's better and more creative than the one made for the corporate office. Meanwhile, Dwight continues to pine for Angela, escaping into Second Life... and Second Second Life. The viewing of Michael's version of the ad brought just the right amount of funny and heartwarming.

There were some hilarious moments this week, so check out my highlights below:

Michael calls Stanley the key to their "urban vibe," to which Stanley responds, "I grew up in a small town. What about me seems urban to you?”
Michael: "Stanley is hilarious."
Michael then calls Phyllis their Mrs. Butterworth. "Kind of a less urban Aunt Jemima."
Dwight: "Second Life is not a game. It is a multi-user virtual environment. It doesn’t have points or scores, it doesn’t have winners or losers."

The Office Rundown: Episode 4, "Money"

In this week's episode of The Office we find Michael moonlighting as a telemarketer because of his money troubles. In other news, Dwight pines after Angela some more and struggles with the fact that Andy is actively pursuing her (by moonwalking past Accounting). For most of the hour-long episode, Pam and Jim act with uncommon compassion toward Dwight, taking pity on him in his distressed state. This doesn't stop them from going to his beet farm bed-and-breakfast out of sick curiosity, however.

I could have done with more of the beet farm agrotourism stuff and less of Michael's story. There was something off about this week's episode. It's never really a good thing when I'm checking the clock and feeling antsy at the 20-minute mark of an hour-long episode.

I woke up this morning with ABBA's "Take a Chance on Me" bopping in my head and I had to giggle. Who would have thought Angela would become such a hot ticket at Dunder-Mifflin? I enjoyed this week's episode of "The Office" well enough, but I'm still not digging the hour-long episodes, and this week's felt like it dragged a little.

In this episode, all the Dunder-Mifflin offices are celebrating the launch of the company's website (Dunder-Mifflin Infinity) with separate parties that will communicate through an online video chat. In other news, Dwight is determined to sell more paper than the website does, prompting Jim and Pam to play another of their infamous pranks. Oh, and Michael holds a pizza delivery kid hostage in the conference room.

"The Office" is back! I loved seeing all the old familiars, though I've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't like "The Office" as an hour-long show. Everything even wrapped up all nice and neat at the half-hour mark during this week's season premiere, so it easily could have just stopped there.

Goodbye for the summer, "The Office"! While I think this season's finale was okay, I also think the show doesn't quite work as an hour-long show. In order to stretch it out that long, it seems like they had to pour on the drama more than usual.

This week Michael promises Dwight his job, believing the position in corporate to be in the bag. Jan comes back into Michael's life in uh, full force. Meanwhile, Jim and Karen have a fun time in New York when they both go to interview for the same job, and Pam is perhaps cuter than she's ever been. When Jim walks in with his new haircut, Kevin says, “Hey, what’s different about you? You look worse.”

Then, Meredith: “You got a haircut. It’s sexy-hot. Turn around... Do it!”

One of my all-time favorite episodes of "The Office" is "Diversity Day," so I couldn't help but revel in "Women's Appreciation," which was like a diversity day for gender issues. It all starts when Phyllis is accosted by a flasher in the parking lot. As Dwight sets out to catch the culprit, Michael aims to make the office a more welcoming environment for women.

After offering some requisite offensive comments, Michael decides to take the women to a more female-friendly environment: the mall. The gals help him with his own female problems, and he takes them shopping at Victoria's Secret.

"The Office" Recap: Episode 20, "Safety Training"

This week on "The Office," Michael's safety lesson about the dangers of depression turns into a real examination of his life. Meanwhile, the other office employees start taking bets on anything and everything, and Andy (who now wants to be called "Drew") returns from his anger-management leave.

It was an amusing episode with some excellent moments, though I was bugged by how very quickly Michael's joke demonstration became a real thing. It just seemed strange.

Dwight has decided to shun Andy for three years. He says shunning, an Amish technique, is "like slapping someone with silence." Dwight is familiar with it because "I was shunned from the age 4 until my sixth birthday for not saving the oil from a can of tuna."
Later in the episode anytime Dwight absolutely had to speak with Andy, he had to "unshun" and then "reshun" Andy, using his hand to indicate a screen opening and closing.
Everyone takes bets on Kelly's explanation of how to use Netflix, with some people winning more money based on how often she said "awesome" and "romantic comedy."

This week's episode of "The Office" focused on courage and heroism, with Dwight defending Jim from Roy with pepper spray and Michael realizing that he could demand a higher salary. Last night's episode of "The Office" was packed with plot development (and "Office" bingo opportunities). Michael and Jan take their romance public at a party hosted by the CFO, where Jan asks Michael to sign a "love contract" and Jim is treated to a tour of Karen's ex-boyfriends (or so we think). Meanwhile, the rest of the Dunder-Mifflin staff got their drink on a local bar, where Creed admits he used to run a small fake I.D. business and Roy reveals his true jackass colors.

Even amid the drama, there were plenty of great lines and highlights. I'd love to share them all with you, but unfortunately, a major technical malfunction caused me to lose all of my notes. This week's heartwarming episode of "The Office" was about the enduring power of paper. (And, since it was directed by "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon, it also involved a bat.) Michael gives a speech at Ryan's business school, emphasizing how important paper is, though he later asserts that people are more important. In this week's "The Office," Phyllis and Bob Vance got married and everyone was invited. Michael got a second chance at being in a wedding, when Phyllis asked him to push her father's wheelchair down the aisle, but he still managed to make things awkward. Michael: "It's a big day for Phyllis, but it's an even bigger day for me. Employer of the bride!" He adds that since he's the one who pays Phyllis' salary, "It's like I'm paying for the wedding - which I am happy to do."
Pam: "Phyllis used the same invitations as Roy and me, so when I got the invitation, I thought I was being invited to my own wedding."
Dwight: "Hi Angela. You look like the Queen of England."
Dwight explains that the Shrutes have their own tradition: When getting married, they stand in their own graves. "The funerals are very romantic, but the weddings are a dreary affair."

This week's episode of "The Office" was fraught with sexual innuendo, as Michael tries to provide bachelor and bachelorette parties in honor of Phyllis' wedding. Among other things, we now know what Dwight looks like when wearing a bra — and what Michael looks like trying to remove Dwight's bra.

After giving himself an electric shock, Michael makes a video for a son he might have someday, saying, "I had an epiphery. Life is precious. And if I die, I want my son to know the dealio. The dealio of life."
"What's up, spinstahs?!" Michael, greeting the women who are getting ready for Phyllis' bridal shower.
Instead of a Guys Night Out, Michael says the bachelor party will be more of a Guys' Afternoon In, or a GAI (pronounced "gay"). "It's a bridal shower for guys. A guy shower. An hour-long shower with guys."

"The Office" Recap, Episode 12: "Traveling Salesmen"

As always, last night's episode of "The Office" was full of hilarious moments and great quotes. While Michael challenges everyone to a sales "Amazing Race," Andy tries to sabotage Dwight in his efforts to become Michael's right-hand man. Angela misses her deadline to hand in tax forms to the corporate office, so Dwight rushes to New York to hand the forms in for her. When questioned by a suspicious Michael, Dwight avoids 'fessing up to his relationship with Angela by resigning from Dunder Mifflin.

Here are some of my favorite moments from this week's episode:

"I'm very flattered. I'm his second choice after 'Pass.'" — Ryan, after Stanley chooses him as his teammate
On Karen and Phyllis' sales calls, Phyllis brings Karen to a beauty salon to get a makeover. In the car she tells Karen that Jim used to be hung up on Pam, adding, "You can pay me back later for the makeover."

The Office Recap: "A Benihana Christmas"

In last night's one-hour holiday episode of "The Office," Michael learns that it's always bros before ho-ho-ho's. This was the perfect holiday episode, touching on all of the ongoing stories for each character. There's not too much drama that you're left crying (remember "Casino Night"?), and every joke is on-key for each of the characters.

The show opens with Dwight hauling in a dead goose and plopping it down on Pam's desk: "Don't worry, she's dead. No wait... he's dead. I accidentally ran over it. It's a Christmas miracle!" After some argument, Tobey convinces Dwight to put the goose in his car.

Michael enters, riding his old bike with a bow on it. After greeting Pam with, "I would like a slice of Christmas Pam, side of candied Pams and perhaps some Pam chops, with mint," Michael proceeds to place his old bike in the pile of gifts for needy children.

In his office, Michael reveals that he's bought tickets for a Sandals vacation in Jamaica for himself and his girlfriend, Carol. She soon comes into the office, however, and asks Michael why he Photoshopped his face over her ex-husband's face in an old family photo, creating a Christmas card featuring Carol, her kids, and Michael's face on Carol's ex's body. Jim calls this a "bold move." After some bumbling explanation on Michael's part, Carol breaks up with him.

Meanwhile, Pam tells Jim about her Christmas gift to him: She's been sending Dwight letters from "the CIA," and she tells Jim that he can be the one to decide what Dwight's "top-secret mission" should be. Jim says he thinks he shouldn't be doing these kinds of pranks anymore, "because of the promotion," though it's clear he also thinks he shouldn't be in cahoots with Pam when he's dating Karen.
