Having already invaded many exotic (Key West, Hawaii) and not-so-exotic (Denver) locales in the States, the show is going abroad for the third time in its history (London and Paris were first).</p> <p><span class="inline left"></span></p> <p>I recently visited Sydney and was blown away but what an exciting, hip and beautiful city it is. In fact, the setting is almost - almost - enough to make me excited about "The Real World" again. After all, Sydney has many things to offer that should make for excellent "Real World" viewing, including:</p> <ul> <li>24-hour bars.</li> <li>Hot lifeguards.</li> <li>Very nice, patient people who speak English.</li> <li>Numerous opportunities for very bad sunburns.</li> <li>Extremely confusing urban planning.</li> <li>The treacherous Sydney Harbor Bridge Climb. (With luck, this will make a housemate cry.)</li> <li>Giant bats with meter-wide wingspans. According to Broadcasting and Cable, the 20th season of the reality show will be set in Hollywood and have the roomies living in an eco-friendly house, complete with solar panels, energy-efficient lighting, and sustainable materials. Here are some details from the article:</p> <blockquote><p> According to MTV, the show will “introduce today’s youth to the ways in which they can incorporate environmentally friendly household items and make eco-friendly lifestyle choices, as seen on The Real World, into their everyday lives.” </p></blockquote> <p>In my humble opinion, "The Real World" has been pretty worthless over the past few years and not exactly setting a noble example for America's youth. So I am glad to see MTV trying to use its powers to do some good. I wonder if the green theme will affect the casting too. The size of each country represents its land mass in proportion to that of the others.<br /> <span class="inline left"></span><br /> The atlas depicts a whole assortment of topics - from tourist destinations, alcohol consumption, wealth in the year one versus wealth in 1990. I was intrigued by the images above, which show (1) the increase in emissions of carbon dioxide and (2) the decrease in emissions of carbon dioxide. Between 1980 and 2000, nearly three-quarters of all territories saw an increase in carbon dioxide emissions with China, the United States, and India leading the pack. Between 1980 and 2000, 28 percent of countries reduced their emissions. It was created by Gunther von Hagen, using his invention of <a href="http://www.bodyworlds.com/en/plastination/plastination_process.html" target="_blank">Plastination.</a> It's a process that makes it possible to preserve tissues and organs of the body, by stopping it from decomposing. All of the people in these exhibits were once alive, and chose to <a href="http://www.bodyworlds.com/en/bodydonation/body_donation_program.html" target="_blank">donate</a> their bodies to science. Or in this case - to ART.</p> <p><span class="inline left"></span>The bodies are positioned in real life activities like riding a horse, sitting at a desk and playing basketball. It allows you to see the different anatomical features.</p> <p>The exhibit's aim is not to be a big gross out, but to educate the public about the human body and its functions.
