What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday

All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays. So each week in What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday, I sort through the best of the batch and tell you what to add to your queue. In addition to the titles below you can now rent the fourth film in the Rambo franchise, simply titled Rambo, and Woody Allen's Cassandra's Dream, starring Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell.

Absolutely Fabulous - Absolutely Everything
"Is it Lacroix Darling? I'll love it if it's Lacroix." - Edina Monsoon. While it might not be Lacroix, it's certainly the next best thing. That's because this Absolutely Fabulous box set, just like its title, has absolutely everything. For a series previously available by season only, this box set compiles every episode from 1992 to 2005.

The British comedy follows Edina, who owns a public relations firm, and her best friend Patsy, who doesn't do much of anything. The duo is consumed by the latest fads and fashion and obsessed with regularly putting drugs and booze - and little else! - into their bodies. Edina's daughter Saffron provides the motherly voice of reason for the out-of-control spinsters. Ab Fab is definitely an acquired taste, but if you are a fan of British humor, I recommend the purchase.

Lipstick Jungle
I can't believe this is on DVD already! The first season of NBC's Lipstick Jungle (which just concluded at the end of March) focuses on three New York City women striving for success. Brooke Shields stars as Wendy Healy, a movie exec trying to juggle her family life and career. Her friends Nico (Kim Raver) and Victory (Lindsay Price) round out the ensemble as a magazine editor and fashion designer, respectively. The show is based on a novel by Candace Bushnell, who also wrote Sex and the City and our current book club selection, Four Blondes.

Grace is Gone
Grace is Gone stars John Cusack as a widowed husband whose wife dies while serving in Iraq. The film centers on his struggle to tell his two daughters that their mom has died, which he delays doing by taking the girls to an amusement park.

The film did well at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival (where it won the Audience Award in the dramatic category) and it pulled in a very respectable $4 million by The Weinstein Company. I haven't yet seen it, but I'm always up for a John Cusack film and he's supposedly excellent in this one.

Rambo Vs. Rimbaud

I wanna marry the genius that came up with this billboard pitting Rambo, the American bohunk mercenary, and Arthur Rimbaud, the 19th century French Symbolist poet. Their names are pronounced the same, but they couldn't be more different. Or. . .wait. Both are/were poets. Both are/were intense. And both spent some time in the jungle. Dude-this is the kind of revelation drugs were made for. . .

Is Sylvester Stallone Still Relevant as an Action Hero?

In 2006, he returned for Rocky Balboa. Now Sylvester Stallone has dredged up another of his old action hero roles with the latest installment of Rambo. Do you enjoy seeing Sly revisit the old action roles that helped to make him a household name? Or is enough enough?

Box Office: Spartans Defeat Rambo

The 300 spoof movie Meet the Spartans took the box office crown this weekend, just barely edging out the latest Rambo for first place. Still, Rambo's numbers are encouraging to studio heads, who appear to be "thinking about reviving Rambo as a franchise." According to Variety, Harvey Weinstein remarked, "Based on these numbers, there should be another one."

Meanwhile, 27 Dresses and Cloverfield swapped places, with Dresses coming out ahead in third place. Cloverfield suffered a decrease in sales of over 68% - maybe news got around about the movie's camera work making audiences vomit. Newbie Untraceable followed up just behind Cloverfield in fifth place, knocking Juno out of the top five for the first time in many weeks.

Cute Alert: Rambo the Pup Snores Like a Mofo

If you were in the next room and heard this snoring, you'd assume a very large man was on the couch having a nap. And you'd be wrong. It's really Rambo the snoring dog. Bonus: his incredibly dignified sleeping positions. (Leave the guy alone, will you?)

Freaky or Fabulous: Matching T-shirts for Sir Philip and Daughter

Arcadia boss Sir Philip Green is currently holidaying in the Caribbean with his family (as are Simon Cowell and Amy Winehouse although sadly not all together). He has been spotted walking along the shore for the past two days with his daughter, Chloe in matching t-shirts! The printed t-shirts appear to be for the Sex Pistols and Rambo but closer inspection reveals a sadder truth. Maybe the recession has started to pinch for Sir Philip which is why he created these t-shirts featuring his face. The Sex Pistols t-shirt also features the faces of Simon Cowell, Sly Stalone and Michael Winner. Now, I'm not blaming Chloe as if my Dad owned Topshop I'd probably agree to wear matching tops with him too but is this awful or fun and fabulous?

If the Intro of 60 Minutes Took Steroids and Had Ron Burgundy

I don't think there are many folks for whom that 60 Minutes ticking clock opener doesn't prompt childhood flashbacks of a Sunday night dread of homework, baths, and bedtime. This is decidedly more fun: It takes the famous intro, the "I'm Morely Safer" part, and, well, imagines what would happen if Rambo and friends showed up to contribute.

I can't stop watching it over and over. Especially the Fight Club one. Ha! This 60 Minutes fun is second only to the "Andy Rooney Game," invented by comedian Joe Mande, where you erase all but the first and last sentence of Andy Rooney's weekly rant, leaving a little gem that's kind of surprisingly funny. Though I may be the only one on the planet under 75 who really enjoys Mr. Rooney, I do have a bit of an old fogey affinity.

JT's Latest Leading Role

Forget about the break up rumors with Cameron - the couple are doing well and happily in love. The more exiting news is JT has landed his first starring role. He will play an action war hero in Stop the Loss and it is being reported it will be a similar role to Stallone's Rambo. Here's more:

A source says, "Justin is thrilled about getting his first leading role. It is a huge challenge for him and he's excited as well as nervous." And Timberlake needs to rush if he wants to make sure his upcoming album is recorded before filming starts. The source adds, "Justin will have to work quickly to finish the songs. He has been in the studio but he won't have much time once he starts filming."

It's been a busy year for JT. He's currently working on his album with Rick Rubin and Alpha Dog will finally be in theaters this May. We are just assuming that for this new Rambo-like role the hot JT we used to see will be back.
