Movie News: Krasinski, Eckhart, Blanchett Circle Roles

Aaron Eckhart in Rum Diary
Amber Heard gets to work with some mighty handsome men. Aaron Eckhart is in talks to join the cast of Rum Diary, the movie based on Hunter S. Thompson's novel, which already nabbed Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in main roles. In the story, "Eckhart is part of a love triangle that sees him vying with Depp for Heard's affection." Richard Jenkins is also joining the project as "the man who oversees the rundown newspaper" where Depp's character works.

John Krasinski Joins Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin in Nancy Meyers Rom-Com
I'm pretty much sold on this movie already, even if details are scarce about, you know, the plot. In another love triangle story, Meryl Streep plays a woman caught between two men - played by Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. Veteran rom-com writer/director Nancy Meyers (Father of the Bride, Something's Gotta Give, The Holiday) is behind the untitled project, which just now got John Krasinski to sign on. Again, mum's the word on any plot or character details (I'm guessing Krasinski's character is someone's son), but this casting makes me more anxious than ever for the movie.

Cate Blanchett May Play Maid Marian!
This is 100 percent just a rumor so far, but still, it's out there and it's a pretty awesome idea: Cate Blanchett might take the part of Maid Marian in Ridley Scott's movie Nottingham, a role originally intended for Sienna Miller. Actor Mark Strong (set for the role of Sir Guy of Gisbourne in the project) recently commented, "I think Cate Blanchett is set to take the Maid Marian part." Then he added what we all know to be true: "She is a wonderful actress and it would make it a much classier film if she was in it."

Citing a lack of stories to tell in a second season, HBO won't be bringing back Tell Me You Love Me after all, Zap2it reports.

Sienna Miller Cast as Maid Marian in Nottingham

Sienna Miller will play Marian to Russell Crowe's Sheriff of Nottingham, BBC News reports today. Miller confirmed recently that barring any actors strike, she'll take on the role of Maid Marian in a version of the Robin Hood story titled Nottingham. Oscar-winning screenwriter Brian Helgeland is crafting the script (he won the little gold man in 1997 for L.A. Confidential) and Sir Ridley Scott is reportedly signed on to direct. BBC News describes the plot:

The movie is a twist on the classic story, with the Sheriff of Nottingham cast as a sympathetic figure up against a not-so-heroic Robin Hood.

I know there are some mixed feelings out there about Sienna Miller, so tell me: What do you think about her playing Maid Marian?

Graduate Fashion Week: Nottingham Trent University

Nottingham Trent University opened the second day of Graduate Fashion Week 2009. The university famously associated with Sir Paul Smith always presents a good selection of students and today was no exception. There was a wide range of styles on show for both mens and womenswear including many knitwear designers.

Rosie Ray created the perfect collection for a rainy day (like today) with ombre colours which effortlessly blended through earthy tones. Subtle detail like cage arms added edge to the classic pieces. The suede minidress was a definite stand out piece.

Many students create sportswear for their final collections which is a great idea, but difficult to pull off. April Smith managed this feat with flying colours with her American football inspired pieces. They featured airtex detailing and big rounded shoulders – not to mention a fair amount of metallic lamé.

Ayako Onikubo took inspiration from the British weather with her rain themed collection. Her outdoor wear merged plastic and grey knits for a solution to the damp weather.

Graduate Fashion Week 2008: Nottingham Trent University

Nottingham Trent has got one of the best names for fashion design outside of London. They produce high quality students with Paul Smith being the most famous (and proud) of their alumni, regularly sponsoring the graduate show. This years graduates were impressive with many of the young designers including knitwear in their collections. Hannah Rodman built on a staple knitwear item, the cardigan for her line which saw the item sewn together for new pieces including skirts, hareem pants and jackets.

Leona Gardner-Chan took lead from a classic South American knitting style designing and making brightly coloured knitwear that was quite angular. A star print motif appeared throughout.

Taking inspiration from Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer line Emilie Maddison Carter integrated feathers in to her line producing high glamour pieces, including a gold silk wide leg jumpsuit with feather appliqué.

Many students take on the continual trend of luxe sportswear but it's difficult to pull off. Nicole Murray did just that with her navy blue and white line of luxury sportswear which created pretty feminine pieces out of airtex. She layered it over gold lamé for a sheer appearance.

Lulu Zhao took the themes of volume and armour to a new level with pieces produced from lino. The fabric that is usually reserved for kitchen floors was included effectively creating a bold new silhouette.

Tom Can McFly Live On Stage!

Following their trip to Brazil, and surprise appearance on stage with the Jonas Brothers while the American teen sensations were in London, McFly played an energetic live show in Nottingham this week. The show was a success with hysterical fans throwing their knickers on stage at the band! Tom's very active on twitter these days as they're recording some demos for their next album between shows, and revealed that they're working on another song about female aliens. Interesting! Are you looking forward to hearing new material from the boys?
