What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday

All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays. So each week in What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday, I sort through the best of the batch and tell you what to add to your queue. In addition to my selections below you can now add Bottle Shock and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa to your queue.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno
I still smile when I think about this movie starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks because it's so silly and raunchy and yet manages to be somewhat heartwarming. But it should come with a serious warning: This is pretty graphic stuff so you should avoid watching with say, a boss, or a brother, or even maybe your roommate's boyfriend. It's a series of really awkward movie moments just waiting to happen. It's also hysterically funny in parts, though, so don't hesitate to add this one to your queue.

The special features both frighten and intrigue me. They include deleted scenes; a "making of" featurette; something called "Money Shots Webisodes"; outtakes, ad-libs and bloopers; and "Seth vs. Justin: Battle for Improvisational Supremacy."

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Juno has been playing on HBO a lot these days and I've been flipping to it during commercial breaks for little bits of Michael Cera goodness. Well, I'm just about Juno-ed out now, so I'm glad the adorable Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist is finally out on DVD. I may be a little biased because I read the book but the movie is also super-duper cute due to Cera and his awesome co-star Kat Dennings. Good music, good actors, boys and girls having crushes on each other - what's not to love?

Special features include outtakes, deleted scenes, "Middle Management" music video by Bishop Allen, and "A Nick & Norah Puppet Show" by Kat Dennings.

The Secret Life of Bees
Zack and Miri, Nick & Nora, and now Bees?! Clearly I won't be hanging out with other humans this weekend because my couch and I are booked. This screen adaptation of the beloved bestseller is a satisfying tale of female friendship that might not be getting a lot of awards or attention, but will touch your heart nonetheless. The movie's dreamy cast includes Dakota Fanning, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, and Queen Latifah. I'm glad it's finally time to watch this again at home.

Special features include the director's extended cut, eight deleted scenes, and lots of featurettes including one titled "Adaptation: Bringing the Secret Life of Bees to the Big Screen."

Box Office: Twilight Drains the Competition

Anticipating Twilight might just be this weekend's big box office winner, I asked you guys to ring in with some possible box office headline puns for the news this morning. Well, briggs313's suggestion in the post was awesome, so I went ahead and used it - thanks briggs313!

Twilight's debut on the big screen was a smash success, earning $70.6 million over the weekend and breaking several records. It has the honor of being the biggest debut ever "for a female director and also beats the $57 million debut of Sex and the City in May." The studio was so impressed with the buzz around the screen adaptation of the popular book that they went ahead and announced plans for the sequel, New Moon, on Saturday.

It seems Twilight sucked up all the young adult love, which may have contributed to the disappointing opening of Disney's Bolt over the weekend. The animated pup earned about $27 million and came in at No. 3, behind Quantum of Solace which had the No. 2 spot. The top five was rounded out by Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa in fourth place followed by Role Models in fifth.

Box Office: Quantum Leaps Into First

The new James Bond film, Quantum of Solace, leaped to box office success in its opening weekend, coming in at No. 1 with an estimated $70.4 million. This was a record breaker, in fact: According to Variety, it was "the biggest opening ever for a James Bond title and a major victory for a film franchise nearly half a century old."

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa came in at No. 2, followed by Role Models, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, and Changeling rounding out the top five.

Another movie earning a bunch of buzz, Slumdog Millionaire, also did well over the weekend in a limited opening. I'm excited to see that one myself. Did you head out to see Bond? What did you think?

Sugar Bits - Madagascar Sequel Tops Box Office

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa scored the top spot at the box office this weekend, earning $63.5 million and winning the record for best opening of the year for a family cartoon. Role Models came in second with $19.3 million. - BuzzSugar
William Balfour, the main suspect in Jennifer Hudson's family slaying, will remain in custody as the investigation continues. His current girlfriend revealed William admitted to being connected to the killings. - Chicago Tribune
Michelle Monaghan gave birth to a baby girl named Willow Katherine White last Wednesday. It is her and her husband Peter White's first child. - Entertainment Tonight
Evan Rachel Wood spoke out about her breakup with Marilyn Manson and said they are taking a break to concentrate on work, despite reports that they have been angrily fighting. She also denied that she is now dating Mickey Rourke. - People
Partially nude photographs of Disney's Cheetah Girl Adrienne Bailon leaked on to the Internet after her laptop was stolen, and she is pursuing legal action over the theft and distribution of her private pictures. - TMZ

Box Office: Madagascar Wins Lion's Share of the Bucks

The animated sequel Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa was a big hit with audiences over the weekend, earning a whopping $63.5 million. In fact, it set some records and "narrowly scored the best opening of the year for a family toon, as well as the seventh best bow of all time." Madagascar 2 just barely surpassed Wall-E which brought in $63 million its opening weekend.

In the No. 2 spot came the Paul Rudd comedy Role Models that exceeded expectations with an estimated $19.3 million. High School Musical 3: Senior Year, Changeling, and Zack and Miri Make a Porno rounded out the top five followed by Soul Men, which opened at No. 6.

Ben, Jada and Chris Escape To London

Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Chris Rock were out in force on a rainy red carpet last night in London's Leicester Square for the Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa premiere! The three big Hollywood stars mixed in with their animal characters' on the red carpet as well as a flurry of British celebs and their children including lovely Richard Hammond who arrived with his wife and children. Ben had this to say on the red carpet:

"It was fun. The first time around was sort of an exploration. Doing an animated movie for the first time was a bit of a process so this time around it was fun because we had seen the first movie, we could visualise what it was going to look like. It was really fun because Chris is so good and to see him improvise, it was very inspiring. A little bit intimidating because he comes up with funny lines. His ratio of funny lines he comes up with is much more than mine."

Will and Jada Escape to LA With Ben and Fergie

Will Smith brought his kids Jaden and Willow to support their mom Jada at the LA premiere of her Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa yesterday. The happy foursome posed for photos while Ben Stiller and his wife Christine made it a date and left their kids at home. Fergie was also on hand to walk the green carpet, though her big smile may have more to do with her wedding than the movie. Her plans are moving along and supposedly she is now working with Karl Lagerfeld to design her dream gown. She and Josh Duhamel have been engaged for a year already but they don't seem in to rushing the big day anytime soon.

Sugar Bits - Take That Won't Perform on X Factor Final

Take That have reportedly pulled out of The X Factor final after hearing that old rivals Boyzone are on the bill. Other artists reported to be performing on the live final include Westlife, Beyonce, Seal and Duffy. - The Sun
Keira Knightley has made a short film for Amnesty calling for the true meaning of "human rights" to be acknowledged on the 60th anniversary of the UN declaration today, in support of Amnesty International's Protect the Human campaign. - PA
Katy Perry has apologised to Lily Allen for referring to herself as a "skinnier version" of Lily, saying "I was just kind of joking and trying to be funny. I didn't mean anything by it. Comedians are not necessarily to be taken super seriously." - Us Magazine
Coldplay have issued a statement on their website, responding to Joe Satriani's lawsuit: "If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental, and just as surprising to us as to him.
