Lily's Big Weekend With Fearne, Alesha and Friends

Lily Allen took to the stage at the Radio 1 Big Weekend in Swindon alongside a dressed down Fearne Cotton and a glammed up Alesha Dixon: find out how to copy Alesha's style with FabUK. Lily was banned from using naughty words in "Not Fair", and giggled as she sang "I’ve been kneading bread for hours" during her Live Lounge session. Before her set she joked about performing naked, and said: "I think everyone coming to watch should go naked. I want to see the whole crowd naked". The singer took a break from trouble making, however, to clear up reports that she lashed out at the Beckhams and Coles, tweeting: "No, I didn’t say that stuff. I’ve never met Cheryl, or her husband, nor David Beckham. Please don’t believe that rubbish."

Fearne's fellow Radio 1 DJs Chris Moyles, Edith Bowman, Zane Lowe, Pete Tong and Vernon Kay were in attendance to introduce loads of acts, including Dizzee Rascal, Snow Patrol, Kasabian, The Saturdays, Florence and the Machine, The Script, Calvin Harris, N-Dubz, The Enemy, Franz Ferdinand, Prodigy, Ladyhawke, Maximo Park and The Gossip.

Stars Rock Out At The NME Awards

The NME Awards took place last night in London, with stars lining up on the red carpet to attend the show, including Alex Turner, Pete Doherty, Alexa Chung, Carl Barat, Nicola Roberts, Sarah Harding, Dave Berry, Robert Smith, Little Boots, Dizzee Rascal and Noel Fielding. Alexa looked stylish as ever in her black and white outfit and even managed to carry off the painful looking coldsore that she'd been trying to cover at London Fashion Week. Director Tim Burton was also there to award the Godlike Genius award to The Cure and Graham Coxon and Damon Albarn performed together for the first time in nine years- check out all the winners here, and then vote in Fab and Bella's love it or hate it polls!

Sugar Bits - Slumdog Millionaire Kids Are Given Apartments

Two of the child stars of Slumdog Millionaire are to get new apartments. The Mumbai housing authority stepped in following the huge publicity that the movie brought to India. - The Sun
Bolt is the number one movie in the UK for the second week in a row. The only new entry in the chart is Push, starring Dakota Fanning and Chris Evans, which went into the chart at number seven. - BBC
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green have ended their two year engagement. Apparently the decision was mutual. - People
Lily Allen, Franz Ferdinand and Manic Street Preachers have been added to the lineup for T In The Park 2009. - NME

What to Download: New Music Today

Tuesdays are big in entertainmentville: Not only do all the new DVD releases hit Netflix, but new music also pours into stores. So I take a spin through each week's music releases and pick out some albums and tracks worthy of a download. Here are today's selections:

Let's dance: I like dancing to Franz Ferdinand. When "Take Me Out" plays at a party or in a bar, it usually has the power to make me do something goofy like flip my hair all over the place. Anyway, I'm glad the band is back with all new sexy tunes for toe-tapping goodness, like the seriously fun song "No You Girls." I also like the first single on the album, "Ulysses."

Chillax music: I'm glad the psychedelic pop duo The Bird and The Bee (aka. Inara George and Greg Kurstin) have staying power because their music is so pretty. It's the perfect cocktail hour music that's part whimsy, part haunting, and totally easy on the ears. Their new album is full of gems like "Baby," "My Love," and "Ray Gun."

The man: Bruce Springsteen's new album is earning rave reviews with some actually describing his new songs as optimistic. That's nice considering how bleak this moment in history can feel these days. If the guy who sings about angst so often can find a silver lining, then maybe we all can. I'm excited to download tracks like "My Lucky Day," "Working on a Dream," "What Love Can Do," and his beautiful song from The Wrestler.

PopUK's New Release Roundup!

Welcome to my roundup of this week's new releases! First up, Tropic Thunder comes out on DVD this week, so if you missed it at the cinema you can check out Robert Downey Jr's Oscar-nominated performance as appearance-changing serious Australian actor Kirk Lazurus. Ben Stiller directed, wrote and stars in the movie, Jack Black costars and Tom Cruise has a great cameo as a studio head. Also released is the BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens' Little Dorrit, with Matthew Macfadyen.

Lily Allen's "The Fear" is released to download this week, along with Ida Maria's "Oh My God", Fleet Foxes "Mykonos", and Bloc Party's "One Month Off". Looking forward to Friday's movie releases, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet reunite in Revolutionary Road - an adaptation of the fantastic Richard Yates novel. On the slightly more indie side of things, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist also comes out, starring Michael Cera and Kat Dennings and telling the story of how Nick and Norah meet, and what plays out over their night in New York.

Sugar Bits - Gary Barlow Wants His Own Pop Reality Show

Gary Barlow wants to rival The X Factor with his own pop reality show on the BBC. He is apparently pushing the idea after setting up his own music label, backed by Universal (the arch rival of Simon Cowell's label Sony BMG). The show, which was originally offered to ITV, will involve singing and dancing and could replace Andrew Lloyd Webber’s shows. - The Sun
Nancy Dell'Olio has reportedly been offered £250,000 to join the Celebrity Big Brother house, in the hopes that Ulrika Jonsson's former love rival will increase the viewing figures. It is thought she will decline the offer. Ulrika is reportedly being paid £175,000 for her appearance on the show. - Daily Mail
Stephen Fry, Lee Evans and Franz Ferdinand will reportedly be the first guests to appear on Jonathan Ross's Friday night chatshow when it returns on 23 Jan. - Guardian
Jordan/Katie Price's alleged speeding offence has been dropped in her absence due to a legal technicality. - PA
Patrick Swayze has admitted he may survive only two years, in his first US TV interview since he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He told interviewer Barbara Walters he was "scared" and "going through hell". - BBC
Brad Pitt has defended both Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie in an interview with W Magazine. - PopSugar
William Rast, the brand backed by Justin Timberlake, will make its Bryant Park debut on 16 Feb. when it holds its spring show at the tents during New York Fashion Week. Justin is scheduled to be present at the show, but there will be no performance. - WWD

Song of the Day: Franz Ferdinand, "Katherine Kiss Me"

Franz Ferdinand is one of those bands I pretty much like they way they are, and I'm not holding out for some kind of musical overhaul when their third album drops in January.

I'm definitely open to being surprised, but as they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That's why I'm glad that this live performance from this year's Glastonbury Festival, of what may be one of the first singles off the new album, is nothing too new.

And it's great! It's got everything you expect from these guys, which for me is something to dance to.

Song of the Day: Annie, "I Know Ur Girlfriend Hates Me"

While everyone is buzzing about the fun new Madonna album, there's another artist who's also creating some infectious pop songs that you can't help but want to dance to right now. Her name is Annie, she's Norwegian, and I first fell for her upbeat, techno sound a couple of years ago when I heard a song called "Heartbeat."

Her newest song, "I Know Ur Girlfriend Hates Me," is from her upcoming album, Don't Stop, which hits stores in July. The song is adorable and super addicting, and if it's any indication, I think I'll be liking the rest of the album. Stereogum reports that she might cover Stacey Q's "Two Of Hearts" as well as collaborate with Girls Aloud, Franz Ferdinand, and Datarock.

If you haven't heard of Annie before now, I would recommend giving her a spot on your list of artists to keep an eye on. You can listen to the new song here or on Annie's MySpace page, where you can also listen to "Heartbeat."

Song of the Day: Franz Ferdinand Cover LCD Soundsystem

One of my current musical obsessions is LCD Soundsystem's latest album, Sound of Silver, and recent Song of the Day honoree "All My Friends" continues to be on near-constant rotation. So I was delighted to find this cover of the song by highly satisfying British rockers Franz Ferdinand. Franz's take was produced by DJ Erol Alkan and will be the B-Side to LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends" single, which comes out May 21 in the UK.

This cover version isn't astoundingly different from the original, but it's such a great song that I'm glad the band didn't try anything too radical. Plus, Franz Ferdinand saves the real surprises for the end. To listen, read more
