The second season of HBO's True Blood kicks off tonight and doesn't waste any time jumping into the scary murder madness that has engulfed the citizens of Bon Temps.
According to the show's creator, Alan Ball, everything intensifies this season: vampires are more monstrous, sex scenes are even sexier, shape-shifters become more, er, shape-shiftery, and the anti-vampire movement becomes even more zealous.
Here are more highlights from the conference call Ball recently held with reporters:
- Talking about the serial killer: "The first season we, the audience, did not know who the serial killer was.

I was giddy when I first heard about Away We Go, director Sam Mendes's quirky little film starring Maya Rudolph and John Krasinski. The movie's sweet trailer only increased my interest, so imagine my excitement upon getting the opportunity to interview Sam, Maya, and John. I sat down with the Oscar-winning director, SNL alum, and The Office star (on whom I admittedly have a bit of a crush) in San Francisco to chat about the film, which is already open in limited release.

So how does it feel to be the new American Idol? The word on Kris Allen's lips when he stopped by the Idol press room a couple of minutes ago was "shocked": "I felt shocked almost every week that I made it," he said. "And to be the American Idol, I'm completely shocked."

You heard Adam Lambert and Kris Allen sing for the American Idol crown — but what did the two finalists have to say about their performances? After Tuesday's competition ended, Adam and Kris headed backstage to give reporters some thoughts on the night.
The two looked completely comfortable with each other, laughing and joking around and pointing to each other anytime someone asked who was going to win.

I still remember the first time I saw Y Tu Mamá También and I became just slightly obsessed with the lead actors of the 2001 Mexican film. Since then, actors Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal have become global stars, and both have gone on to work with a variety of talented directors including Jim Jarmusch and Gus Van Sant.
Now the two are reuniting onscreen in Rudo y Cursi (opening today) as brothers from the countryside who are recruited to play professional soccer in the big city.

In general, babies don't have the easiest time at Private Practice's Oceanside Wellness. So will Violet's baby survive tonight's season finale? My recent chat with Amy Brenneman confirmed there's some merit to the question.

I received an Amazon.com gift certificate over the holidays and a couple months later I had fun loading up my virtual shopping cart with new books. Sandra Novack's debut novel Precious was included in that shopping spree, and when it arrived I started reading it on a Saturday morning and finished it by Sunday. It's a book I'd heard nothing about but it's so compelling and beautifully written that I only put it down to eat, brush my teeth, and sleep.

Between I Love You, Man and Parks and Recreation — which premieres tonight on NBC — it's shaping up to be a pretty good Spring for Rashida Jones. I caught up with the actress back at NBC's press tour party, where we talked about her new role as nurse and community activist Ann Perkins, her thoughts on the Jim and Pam relationship on The Office, and even a little about Top Chef. Here are some highlights:
- On working with Amy Poehler: "We're actually really good friends.

Tonight, Amber Tamblyn returns to TV for her first series role since Joan of Arcadia. She's playing Detective Casey Shraeger in ABC's The Unusuals, about a group of misfit cops in New York City trying to solve crimes while also battling their own personal neuroses. I'm still a little disappointed that the show isn't about superhero cops, but the crazy personalities in this show — played by Adam Goldberg, Harold Perrineau, and Kai Lennox, among others — make up for that a bit.

As I mentioned in today's rundown, Kal Penn has decided to trade House for the White House. Today, the actor-turned-political outreach liaison and his former bosses, House executive producers David Shore and Katie Jacobs, hopped on the phone to talk about Penn's decision, Kutner's death, and what it all means for the show going forward. Here are some key things to know:
- Penn's interest in politics is nothing new.
