Hugh Gossips With Glamour, Premieres Australia in the UK

Following the world premiere of their new film in Australia last month, Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman have taken Australia around the world, from New York City to Madrid, and last night they brought Baz Luhrmann's movie to London. The director himself also walked the red carpet in Leicester Square alongside Catherine Martin, and was joined by British celebs like Elton John, David Furnish, Twiggy and Konnie Huq. Do you plan to see it? You can check out video footage of the premiere and film after the jump. Hugh was accompanied by his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, who he's been telling British Glamour all about. He also discussed Australia during his interview, and opened up about his romantic side. Here are the highlights:

On falling for Deborra during his first starring role: "When I realised I had a crush on her I was mortified. Debs was a big star here, and it was my first gig. I thought, 'I've fallen in love with the leading lady and I'm sure everybody's laughing at me.' But we started off as great mates, and it's been a great foundation. I believe it's rare in life to have absolute certainty, but with Debs I knew straight away. It was a gift."
On whether Nicole has changed over the years: "We all change, but what Nicole always had was great poise. Working with her was a treat; she's courageous, bold, determined, one of the hardest-working actors out there, incredibly intelligent and very funny. And tall, which for a tall guy like me is refreshing! And I'm so happy for her now with her family life, it's fantastic, y'know? But really, in her centre, I don't think she's changed at all."

On whether kissing Nicole was bizarre because she's a good friend of his and Deborra's: "Let's face it, any kind of making out in front of 70 people is bizarre, so it's just another twist! But Nicole is such an upfront person, she'd come to me and say, 'Let's talk about this, how are we gonna approach it?' So it was as easy as it could've gone."
On what effect he hopes "Australia" will have: "There's a great line my character says. He says: 'In the end the only thing you really have is your story. And I'm just trying to make mine a good one.' That's something I've lived by for a long time. When things go to sh*t, the only thing that matters is that you're with the people you love. Forget society's rules, forget 'I should've done this, that...' - if you're with the people you love, you'll make it though everything".
On whether he's a true romantic: "Yeah, I am, no doubt about it. In fact, Debs says I'm the most romantic man in the world. Feel free to quote her on that!"

First of all, I highly recommend you watch Australia this weekend. And read all about what costume designer Catherine Martin had to say about the film's Fab wardrobe. Now that I got that off my chest, back to fashion. Nicole Kidman was all about sophisticated glamour during her Australia movie promotions. From delicate feathers to sequins, the seasoned actress reigned in her exquisite choices. My pick is Nicole in Dries Van Noten's shimmery frock - but that's just me. Which look do you prefer?

Nicole Natters About Her Future Next to Hugh in Australia

Nicole Kidman doubled up her chic style in Sydney, going for a sleek chignon at the photo call for Australia and then literally letting her hair down for the world premiere. As we've seen from the rain-deluged jungle in I'm a Celebrity, the sun doesn't always shine in Australia, so Nicole and costar Hugh Jackman had to engage the services of umbrella holders as they walked the red carpet, but the rain didn't dull their smiles. It sounds like we'll need to make the most of Nicole's new releases while we still can since, like Angelina Jolie, Nicole has said she's unsure of her future as an actor:

"I am in a place in my life where ... I've had some great opportunities and I may just choose to have some more children. I've no idea what is in my future but I am very at peace with where I want to be. There are many things I want to do besides act."

After seeing photos of the shooting I can't wait to see this film, which opens in the UK on Boxing Day. Do you plan to see the Baz Luhrmann movie too?

On Our Radar: Ferragamo to Create Footwear For Upcoming Nicole Kidman Flick

Imagine having the task of creating footwear for a high-profile flick starring Nicole Kidman? That's precisely the boat Salvatore Ferragamo is in. The footwear designer, along with Oscar-winning costume designer Catherine Martin, is set to create a collection of shoes for Baz Luhrmann's Australia.

"My grandfather, Salvatore Ferragamo, began his career working in costume design for the American Film Company, a precursor to Twentieth Century Fox, so it is only fitting that we carry on his name and our company's heritage by collaborating once again on a film from Fox," said James Ferragamo.

When watching the movie, which comes out in November, look for evening sandals, riding boots, and classic wedge styles. Some shoes will later be sold at Ferragamo stores worldwide. But first, they will be displayed in Milan at the Evolving Legend Exhibition starting Sept. 24.

Another Movie Date Change! Quantum of Solace: Nov. 14

Following all these changes to the Fall movie releases is like a chess game because it has thrown the entire calender into a bit of a tizzy. First Twilight shifted its date based on the Harry Potter news, and now Quantum of Solace, the next installment of the James Bond franchise starring Daniel Craig, will follow suit.

Originally, Quantum of Solace was going to open Nov. 7 and is now being bumped to Nov. 14. Sony chair of worldwide marketing and distribution Jeff Blake states:

We believe Nov. 14 is a great date that allows us to play straight through Thanksgiving and right into Christmas. We believe this decision will give the public a wider opportunity to see the film over the holiday.

In this new slot the James Bond flick will now open the same weekend as Baz Luhrmann's epic Australia. Looks like despite the Harry Potter move to Summer of '09, this Fall is still shaping up to be pretty eventful.

So, let's see here, what does this mean for us? An additional week to ponder the meaning of Quantum of Solace, perhaps? Sure, why not.

Pre-Pregnancy Nicole And Hunk Hugh Hug In Homeland

Baz Luhrmann is one of my favourite directors, so I'm very excited about Australia (out in the UK on Boxing Day) starring his fellow countrymen Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. My girl Pop US brought you pictures of the pair filming on horseback Down Under last year, and I couldn't resist showing you these gorgeous new pictures of a pre-pregnancy Nicole and Hugh hugging on location in Darwin. The actors are back in their native country (with a new addition) filming extra scenes for the movie, with Nicole back to work just weeks after giving birth. How does she do it?

Set in northern Australia during World War II, the film focuses on an English aristocrat (Nicole), who joins forces with a stock-man (Hugh) to protect her inherited cattle. With the stars back in their homeland and Baz creating a tourism ad campaign for the country, as Paris would say, Oz is so hot right now.

Buzz In: Has a Movie Ever Inspired You to Travel?

The other day I found myself saying, "You know where I really want to visit? Greece." Why? Because of that lovable hot mess Mamma Mia! and the upcoming Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. Both are set (or, partially set, in Pants's case) on beautiful Greek islands with many sumptuous shots of white sands and sparkling azure oceans. It's like the ultimate product placement: I want to go where that movie is. Now.

Now Baz Luhrmann is fully embracing this idea of movie-as-travel-ad, and will help create a tourism ad campaign to go along with the release of his film Australia.

I've already shared a few movies that have inspired me to travel, so now it's your turn. Which movies have made you antsy to get out and see the world?

Movie Preview: Baz Luhrmann's Australia

Baz Luhrmann, the Australian director of Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge has been working on his next film Australia for a while, and now we've got our first look at the project. Although the trailer doesn't give away much of the plot (I think Nicole Kidman makes an attempt, kinda, in the form of a simplified children's story but it doesn't really help much), it appears we're looking at an Australia under attack during the Pacific War with a romance thrown in there for good measure.

Visually, the film looks stunning. I've always had a hunch that if Luhrmann could apply just a small amount of restraint to his trademark movie aesthetic, we would be in for something truly special and this very well may be it. Also, Hugh Jackman as an outback cowboy might be the role he was born to play.
