Should TV Networks Have a Family Hour?

That picture up there? That's "American Dad," otherwise known as the most objectionable show on television, according to the Parents Television Council. The group issued a report this week that said the show had more violent, sexual and profane content than any other show on TV, and its network, Fox, was singled out as the worst network for children (the CW ranked the cleanest; bet that changes after "Gossip Girl" comes out).

One thing "American Dad" has going for it is that it airs later in the night, at 9:30 p.m., when many young children are likely to be in bed. A key finding of the council's study was the increase in profanity, violence and sexual content during the "family hour" of 8 to 9 p.m. (and 7 to 8 p.m. on Sundays). Violence was up more than 50 percent since the council's 2001 study, according to the report, while sexual content jumped 22 percent.

This has led the group to ask for more clean content during the family hour. On the one hand, I see a need for shows that parents and kids can watch together. On the other hand, a lot of good 8 p.m. shows certainly wouldn't be classified as "clean" ("30 Rock," anyone?). Do you think the networks should have an hour each night devoted to family-friendly programming?

What's Your Favorite Fox Animated Series Ever?

One of the panels that got a big reaction at Comic-Con was for the former Fox animated series "Futurama," which is being resurrected for four straight-to-DVD movies. The first movie is expected to be released on Nov. 27, and the movies will later air as stand-alone episodes on Comedy Central.

At the "Futurama" panel, the producers showed their first new footage since the show was canceled (you can watch a fan video of it here - it's a little jumpy, but you'll get the idea). The announcement got me thinking about Fox's animated shows in general, and so I'm wondering: Which of their series is your favorite of all time?

Hired help must have been in high demand last night as celebrity moms and dads hit the town for a big night out at the American Music Awards. Hollywood's babysitters had their hands full with Jennifer Lopez performing, Kate Hudson presenting and Nicole Kidman accompanying her hubby. This is quite the week for all us Robert Pattinson fans, as not only is New Moon out tomorrow, but the trailer for his latest film Remember Me has just been released! We saw Robert filming the movie in New York with costar Emilie de Ravin throughout the Summer, and now we've got our first look at Robert in the romantic drama. He plays American college student Tyler, who falls in love with a policeman's daughter, and Pierce Brosnan plays his dad! The new lovers struggle with their relationship as they both try to cope with family tragedies. It's due out in March 2010, so check out the trailer and vote to let me know: will you see it or skip it?

Stage Dad Banned from American Idol

We hear about stage moms all the time - Lynne Spears and Dina Lohan are just two that come to mind. Today the media is buzzing about stage dad, Jeff Archuleta. If you watch American Idol, then you know baby faced David Archuleta is a fan fave and crooner to boot. The Idol contestant is likely to go all the way to the top – if he can just get his father to relax.

The cameras often zoom in on papa Jeff as he cheers on his boy wonder. For a while now, there have been rumblings of parental interference on the dad's part. ABC reports:

Jeff Archuleta, the father of "American Idol" contestant and fan favorite David Archuleta, has reportedly been banned from the show's rehearsals. The stage dad has been accused of meddling with his son's routines during rehearsal, and "Idol" producers have apparently had enough.

It seems that lil Archuleta has the talent, smile and charm to secure the winner's spot. I would hate to see the boy from Utah lose it all because his daddy couldn't take a backseat.
