Heartwarming Stories or Train Wrecks: What Kind of Wedding Reality Show Do You Prefer?

Like I said before, wedding-themed reality shows are everywhere this Summer. Of course, it's that time of year, but suddenly it feels like all the networks are rolling out wedding show after wedding show. For the most part, they fall into one of two categories: those we watch for the emotional stories and those we watch to see a total train wreck.

Take the CW's Hitched or Ditched and TNT's new show Wedding Day as examples. On Hitched or Ditched, the couples are mostly dysfunctional, so more often than not someone will get "ditched" in front of all their friends and family. Lovely! Not very heartwarming but there is a kind of guilty pleasure in viewing it all.

On the other hand, Wedding Day features couples with a traumatic and highly emotional backstory. The couple featured in the pilot were chosen because the bride was in a horrific car accident. Yeesh. The whole production is engineered to make sure you cry by the end.

So which of these do you prefer: the train wreck wedding or the emotionally wrenching?

Keep Your Newlywed Glow: Don't Watch These Movies or Shows

I'm going to a half-dozen weddings over the coming months, so I've had reception music on the brain these days. I love passing on playlist ideas when my friends ask - but I'm also impressed with some friends' musical choices that wouldn't have occurred to me.

One of the best weddings I've attended had a live zydeco band that kept the whole crowd dancing for hours. Another rocked a playlist of vintage soul. And in general, I'm always impressed when my friends manage to sneak in songs they love without totally alienating their Great Aunt Helen.

So I'm wondering: What's the best wedding music situation you've ever encountered? Did someone hire a particularly awesome band - or toss together an exceptional iPod playlist? Was there one song that was a surprise dance hit? Tell me all about it!

Will You Watch Any of This Summer's Marriage-Themed TV?

It's not just wedding season here on Sugar - it's taking over TV as well! The second season of Here Come the Newlyweds premiered Monday night on ABC, the CW's Hitched or Ditched starts tonight, and in a couple of weeks, TNT will roll out Wedding Day.

The three shows vary drastically in tone, from the trainwreck-y voyeurism of Hitched or Ditched to the sentimentality of Wedding Day. In Hitched or Ditched, couples who have been together for years get nominated by their friends for a whirlwind week of wedding planning, at the end of which they must either marry or call things off for good. On the other end of the spectrum is Wedding Day, which takes couples who have gone through tremendous hardship - financial or otherwise - and throws them the wedding of their dreams. Somewhere in the middle is Here Come the Newlyweds, a game show in which just-married couples compete in various challenges for the chance to add a cash prize to their wedded bliss.

TV Wedding Moments: Chuck

As I'm celebrating the renewal of Chuck, it seems only fitting to continue my wedding season coverage with one of the most off-beat TV wedding moments of the year. In Chuck's season two finale, "Chuck vs. The Ring," a major fight scene goes down while Ellie and Devin are supposed to be saying their vows.

This scene is awesome for many reasons, but here are just a few: Lester and Jeff (as Jeffster!) pinch-hit for the wedding band, stalling the ceremony with a spirited vocals-and-keytar take on "Mr. Roboto." Sarah picks off some bad guys using a set of wedding knives - who knew that some registry cutlery could come in so handy? Flowers and frosted cakes get annihilated by gunshots. And some paratroopers ultimately save the day at the expense of one lovey-dovey ice sculpture.
