Keep Up With Ugly Betty Via Marc and Amanda Webisodes

You know what's funnier than Marc and Amanda's antics at work on Ugly Betty? Marc and Amanda's antics at work after everyone else has gone home and they think no one's watching. While Betty takes a break, ABC will add a new webisode of Mode After Hours to this site each week until the show comes back May 7. These little clips first premiered in September, and I'm glad they're back, because I might go through withdrawal without a weekly Marc and Amanda fix.

In the first installment, Marc and Amanda discover - and open, of course, because no one's around and they're troublemakers like that - a mysterious package addressed to Wilhelmina from a certain ex-boyfriend of hers who shall not be named (but, um, it rhymes with Honor). Jimmy Fallon Starts His Hosting Duties Online Tonight

It'll be a few months before Jimmy Fallon officially slides into Conan O'Brien's chair as the host of NBC's Late Night, but starting tonight, he'll be doing some practice runs - and we can all watch online. At 12:30 a.m. each day, NBC will post a new video of Fallon on this new website.

The idea is that people will get used to seeing Fallon at 12:30 - and that he'll be able to test out material without having to see how it goes over in front of a live TV audience. Variety says the five-minute webisodes will be "lo-fi, freeform-style looks at what Fallon is up to on the eve of his hosting gig."

NBC's supposed to be announcing an official premiere date for Fallon's show this week, but March 2 is the latest rumor. That would give Conan O'Brien a few months off the air while he prepares to fill Jay Leno's Tonight Show shoes starting in June. Most of you thought Fallon would make a good Late Night host before, but now that the transition is getting closer, do you still feel the same?

Which Gossip Girl Supporting Character Deserves Webisodes?

This season, one of my favorite Gossip Girl characters has been Dorota, Blair's long-suffering maid and confidant who brings a dose of reality to B.'s hoity-toity life. Apparently I'm not the only Dorota fan, because now, Dorota will be starring in her own series of webisodes, available exclusively to those of you who use Verizon.

I think Dorota's a great choice for a web series - but is she the best? Would you rather have a series focusing on Eric? Vanessa? (At least then she'd get to do something!) What about Nelly Yuki? Or did they get it right with Dorota?

Rosario Dawson's Web Series, Gemini Division, Starts Today

In NBC's "first original online series," Gemini Division, Rosario Dawson stars as NYPD cop Anna who "gets entangled in a war between artificial SIMs life forms and the covert 'Gemini' group." Apparently the series will include 50 episodes (er, webisodes), with the first one coming online today.

I've seen the first episode, and the premise is interesting enough - especially since the series begins with the murder of someone close to Anna, which she then strives to figure out - but so far, the way the series is shot it looks so silly, it's distracting.

Anna provides a ton of exposition in the form of video messages, and her stories are illustrated by clips. Still, it's basically Anna having a one-sided conversation with the camera. It's really hard to be pulled in by her, too; I don't know if it's Dawson as an actress or the awkward material, but so far, this ain't grabbing me.

The series supposedly starts today on the Gemini Division website, but for now all that's available to the public seems to be the trailer, which you can check out if you read more.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog Is Awesome, and Now Working Just Fine

I would have posted this yesterday when the first act of Joss Whedon's online musical series was available online except for the fact that it wasn't actually available for most of the day. All the fans (like me) who were lured in by the funny preview for the series were trying to view the first webisode, and too many curious eyes caused the site to slow to a halt.

Now it's working fine and it is my pleasure to announce that Act I of this funny, bizarre musical starring Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion is awesome. It's adorable and sweet and tons of fun to watch. The first few minutes of Dr. Horrible just talking to camera is a little slow, but once you get through that, there's a super-cute little musical number/love song set in a laundromat and the rest flows along nicely from there.

The only thing I'm not getting is why it's called "sing-along" when there's no real way to sing along (unless you watch a few times, I guess!). Tell me your thoughts below after watching the first act here. Enjoy!

First Glimpse: This Summer's Office Webisodes

Since I'm so happy about Amy Ryan coming back to The Office, I figured it's a good time to pass along some other Office-related goodies. The show's cast is back this Summer for another round of webisodes - the first round won them an Emmy - and the first sneak peek has hit the Web.

The first webisode features Kevin and Darryl teaming up to launch a fairly fraudulent business venture, and while the brief clip leaves something to be desired, it's just good to see those two very funny characters have a chance to interact. The better teaser, though, is the behind-the-scenes video that shows various cast members talking about the webisodes; it includes brief glimpses at several of the works in progress.

NBC Has More Webisodes on the Way

For someone who lists TV and the Internet as major components of both her work and play, I've never been much into stand-alone webisodes. But NBC seems to be out to change my mind, because the network has a huge list of special online features coming soon for shows like Chuck, Heroes, and The Office.

Starting in July, those three shows will get new online series. While it's not confirmed in NBC's press release, I assume the ones for The Office will be more of the Emmy-winning The Accountants series. Hmmmm . . . fodder for the upcoming spinoff? The best part: Thanks to the writers' strike resolution, which means writers actually get paid for online content, I can watch without guilt this time.

Especially in the case of Heroes and Chuck, I'm wondering if others also will feel more inclined to watch simply because it's been so long since we've spent any time with these characters. I know I wouldn't mind seeing my Nerd Herders again, even if it was just in a short, silly video. What do you think?

NBC also has a pretty cool-sounding online-only series that reminds me of a video PostSecret, plus some funny special features for a few of its other shows, so to hear about those, just read more.

The online-only show is called Fears, Secrets, and Desires, and the idea is for users to share stories that fit into one of those three categories. Eventually some of them will be featured in an online anthology series, and NBC promises that "Hollywood talent normally associated with the big or small screens, not necessarily the computer screen," will be involved with bringing some of the stories to life.

A couple of the other things from the online list that cracked me up:

On the 30 Rock site, you'll soon be able to take Jack Donaghy's business classes online. Jack is also going to be blogging. Would Jack really blog? I'd think that would be a bit too revealing for ol' Donaghy, but maybe someone told him it was a wise professional move.
Of all the online features, I'm pretty sure this one for Medium is my favorite: Users can recreate their favorite "Allison Waking Up In Bed After a Nightmare" scene, upload it and share. Hee.

Video of the Day: The Office's Kelly and Erin's Subtle Sexuality Music Video!

As much as I heart The Office, one of my biggest gripes about the show is that there's not nearly enough Kelly Kapoor. If you're in the same boat as me, then I've got a very special Thursday treat for you! In a new string of websiodes, we'll get to follow Subtle Sexuality, the new Dunder Mifflin girl band consisting of Kelly and receptionist Erin.

Their first video, "Male Prima Donna," is not at all subtle, but everything you'd expect from celebrity-lovin' Kelly: gold lamé costumes, fierce dance moves, and a whole lotta auto-tuning. There're even some pretty stellar cameos from Andy and the male prima donna himself (spoiler alert: it's Ryan)! Rewind: This Week's Buzz

We got a double whammy of Matt Damon movie previews: Invictus and Green Zone, and the busy guy is in talks for the next Coen brothers movie.
What shows have been canceled, picked up for full seasons, or renewed? I racked up the results on my Fall TV scorecard and a late-week update.
I chit-chatted with some of my favorite TV stars this week; read my interviews with FlashForward's Sonya Walger and Parks and Recreation's Chris Pratt and Rashida Jones.
Many lovely ladies made movie casting news this week, including Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Biel, Diane Kruger and January Jones.
Michael Jackson's tribute doc This Is It premiered Wednesday, so I caught a show and gave it my review - and stamp of approval.
Good news for Hollywood's funnymen: Ricky Gervais is set to host the Golden Globes, while Steve Carell scored a role in a gold comedy, and Adam Sandler is going to play both Jack and Jill in his next movie.
The Office characters one-upped their own show with the webisode music video for "Male Prima Donna" by Subtle Sexuality.
The Martin Scorcese biopic is full steam ahead, with Leo as the top choice for both you guys and Martin Scorsese.
