Around this time of year, my calendar starts to fill up with weddings, which also means I've been hearing all about the proposals for a while now. Inevitably this leads me to think about cute movie proposals, like the one in Bride Wars when Anne Hathaway's character finds a ring in a fortune cookie. It's not a good movie, but that part is sweet.

Danny Gokey was an early favorite on American Idol this season, but his path stopped just short of the finale when he was eliminated on Wednesday. This morning, he spoke with reporters about his big post-Idol dreams: the Milwaukee-based singer said he wants to "start a movement" with his music, combining it with the goals of Sophia's Heart Foundation, which he started in honor of his late wife. He also sized up Kris and Adam heading into next week's finale and clarified that no, he's not taking money from LensCrafters for making that heart symbol with his hands.

This week's Gossip Girl is a big improvement over last week's, just because things (ridiculous things!) are happening, for once. Chuck and Blair reunite to save Serena, Vanessa and Dan drink together, Nate gets an apartment in Murray Hill, and we learn Rufus is a huge dummy with money. Oh, and Georgina is back, and the girl is saved, which is a very fun twist indeed.

Scott MacIntyre, the latest singer to be eliminated from American Idol, hopped on the phone with reporters today to talk about his experience on the show and his plans for a music career going forward. He joked about bringing out "my shredder" for the power-pop Survivor tune that turned out to be his farewell song, opened up about his songwriting (which ranges from adult-contemporary tunes to punk to jazz), and generally sounded upbeat about his future in music. Here are highlights:
- On his reaction to the judges' decision not to save him: "I was actually very thrilled to know that it was a split decision between the four judges.

"I've found sometimes that friends can be significantly more dangerous than enemies, John."
Wise words from Ben, whose episode this week made me rather sad, to be honest. It's nice to have some blanks from the past filled in — though the fillings always come with more holes being drilled, more questions to mull over.

I really like the CoverGirl commercial episode of America's Next Top Model because models walking, reading, and talking all at the same time is so much fun to watch. I can't imagine reading lines from a teleprompter and not tripping over myself or making a weird face, so I'm always impressed with the ladies who do really well in this part of the competition. So who's a natural for commercials and who should stick to still photos?

Fox's Fringe returns tonight at long last, after almost two months off the air. But viewers shouldn't worry about being lost when the show returns — at least according to Anna Torv, who plays Olivia Dunham. Torv hopped on the phone with reporters last week to talk about what's coming up for the rest of Fringe's season, what we'll learn about her character's past, and whether she'll ever hook up with Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson).

Looks like Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz might star together in a movie again — this time for something quite a bit lighter than Vanilla Sky. Directed by James Mangold (Girl, Interrupted, Walk the Line), the romantic comedy "revolves around a woman who has terrible luck with men but finds her path intertwined with that of a mysterious handsome man she meets on a blind date." Though neither actor is confirmed for the project, Diaz and Cruise apparently may star together in the lead roles.

It seems that Hollywood has been long obsessed with turning the biographies of musicians into films. A couple of years ago, we had a spate of them that included Ray and Walk the Line, and just a handful of months ago Cadillac Records jumped into the game.
Now with this news of not one but two movies about Allen Ginsberg's life in the works, I'm thinking a wave of author biopics may be upon us.
