The release of New Moon is steadily approaching amid a vampire trend that's hotter than ever. In addition to the Twilight gang, The Vampire Diaries keeps getting better, and True Blood just wrapped its second amazing season. I love all three, and have been thinking lately about how they each regard classic vampire mythology, from garlic, to crucifixes, to vampire transitions.

Word on the street is that a major character will be killed off on tonight's season finale of True Blood, capping off the second season with the episode "Beyond Here Lies Nothin'". With orgies, sacrifices and a maenad (still not sure what that is), to say that this season was far bloodier and sex-filled than the first is a major understatement. Will they be able to kill Maryann and stop the terror in Bon Temps?

It's a vampire-filled episode for the PopSugar Rush weekend edition. It's not all about bloodsuckers, though — check out a preview of what to expect from the Daytime Emmys this weekend and a NYC hotel that's giving the outside quite a view. All that and a little bit of Edward Cullen to set your weekend off on the right foot.

Anna Paquin celebrated her 27th birthday with her fellow True Blood costars at Comic-Con yesterday. The panel started off on an exciting note when Alan Ball announced that the official True Blood drink (it'll be "blood orange" soda) was a go, and the fun continued from there. It was interesting to see the scariness of the show combined with the cast's funny anecdotes about fang malfunctions, and it was even more exciting to see the very real chemistry between Anna and Stephen Moyer.

The second season of HBO's True Blood kicks off tonight and doesn't waste any time jumping into the scary murder madness that has engulfed the citizens of Bon Temps.
According to the show's creator, Alan Ball, everything intensifies this season: vampires are more monstrous, sex scenes are even sexier, shape-shifters become more, er, shape-shiftery, and the anti-vampire movement becomes even more zealous.
Here are more highlights from the conference call Ball recently held with reporters:
- Talking about the serial killer: "The first season we, the audience, did not know who the serial killer was.
