The Simpsons Renewed For Season 22: Woohoo or D'oh?
Good thing The Simpsons invested in some new opening credits, because apparently they'll be in use for a while: Fox has renewed the show for two more seasons totaling 44 episodes.
That'll make The Simpsons the longest-running primetime show in TV history with 22 seasons under its belt. But it will have a ways to go before it has the most episodes of any primetime series: Gunsmoke was only on for 20 years (heh, yeah, "only") but produced 635 episodes, while Homer and co.
The New Simpsons Opening: Love It or Leave It?
The Simpsons went HD on Sunday, and with the change came new opening credits for the first time in years. The story is basically the same, though we now know the exact value of Maggie at the supermarket checkout and get to see a few new Springfield characters (actually tons of them, if you freeze-frame at the one-minute mark). Sunday's version was especially long, featuring the family chasing their couch through space, but as far as I know, the couch part of the ending will be changing every week as usual.

Welcome back to my Buzz Gift Guide series for all the entertainment lovers in your life. Now that Thanksgiving is over it's time to get serious about finding the right gifts, and nothing makes gift-giving easier than knowing TV and movie mega-fans.
It may be because I write about entertainment all the time, or because the show's been on the air longer than some of us can remember, but I feel like I know a lot of Simpsons fans, and they're a fun (and easy) group to find gifts for.
The Simpsons Parodies Mad Men, Charlie Brown Tonight
The Simpsons may not be must-see TV for me like it was a few years back, but I still try to make a point of watching the annual Halloween special, the Treehouse of Horror. Even though it usually airs after Halloween (thanks a lot, World Series), it keeps me in the spooky holiday mood with clever horror parodies.
I'm especially excited for this year's (19th!) episode because it includes a takeoff on one of my favorite Halloween traditions: It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
Buzz In: Which TV Shows Overstayed Their Welcome?
While some of you longtime Simpsons fans were celebrating the show's 20th-season renewal this week, just as many of you were saying the show should have quit while it was ahead. I've already read one story musing that the end could be near for the show, and some people think that's coming, oh, seven or eight years too late.
We talk a lot around here about shows that get canceled before their time, but what about shows that just hang on too long?
The Simpsons Will Turn 20 Next Fall on Fox
I knew The Simpsons had been on the air for a while, but this is pretty mind-blowing: The show has just been officially renewed for a 20th season on Fox. That ties it with Gunsmoke for the title of longest-running primetime TV series . .

- According to Variety, there will be a Rupert Wainwright-directed indie drama titled Waco, based on the 1993 stand-off at Waco, Texas.
- Janet Jackson is gearing up to do a tour, kicking off in Vancouver on September 10, Billboard writes.
- Will Smith will produce a remake of France's smash hit comedy Welcome to the Sticks, Zap2It reports.
- Reuters reports that Sharon Osbourne has signed on to star in VH1's reality show Rock of Love Girls: Charm School, teaching contestants "about etiquette, fashion and manners."
- Zap2It has the news that John Cusack and Chiwetel Ejiofor are in talks to join Roland Emmerich's apocalyptic thriller 2012.
Which is More Salacious: The Simpsons or Baywatch?
Wacky, but true: A Venezuelan TV station that had been airing The Simpsons at 11 a.m. on weekdays recently pulled the show from the air after officials determined that the animated comedy could violate the country's Law of Social Responsibility in Radio and Television. Its replacement: Baywatch.
