TV Tonight: "Mission: Man Band" and "The Pick-Up Artist"

VH1 has two new reality shows starting tonight, and I'm still trying to guess where they'll fall on the bad to so-bad-it's-good spectrum. One, "Mission: Man Band," makes me chuckle just thinking about it. The other, "The Pick-Up Artist," just makes me roll my eyes.

Actually, I already said all I have to say about "The Pick-Up Artist" (pictured above) back when I heard the show was filming. Nothing I've seen since has changed my opinion of the series, in which a master "PUA" named Mystery - who figured prominently in Neil Strauss' The Game, sort of The Rules for boys - teaches hapless guys how to hit on chicks like the best of them. Stay classy, VH1.

"Mission: Man Band," on the other hand, simply cracks me up. The show tosses four former boy band stars - Bryan Abrams of Color Me Badd, Chris Kirkpatrick of NSync, Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees, and Rich Cronin of LFO - in a house together and gives them one month to attempt to recapture fame and fortune. I'm bummed about the absence of a Menudo member, but I'm pretty sure this one could be hilarious.
