TV Tonight: The L Word Series Finale

For all you fellow lovers of The L Word, tonight we have to say goodbye to Shane, Bette, Jenny, Helena, Kit and so many more - though thankfully not Alice, who still has a spinoff in the works. The episode is aptly titled "The Last Word" and will lead us up to learning who killed Jenny. Plus, from the promo below it looks like we haven't seen the last of Molly.

For those of us who like the sentimental stuff, Showtime will be airing a retrospective of the last six seasons in the hour before the finale. It feels like yesterday that Jenny was moving in next door with Eric Mabius. The past seven episodes have been a wild ride and it's going to be bittersweet to say farewell to the series that has broken down so many boundaries. Who are you going to miss the most? After six dynamic seasons, the characters have gone through so many ups and downs, but one thing has remained constant: their amazing clothes. Sexy, daring, and always fashionable. To celebrate the ladies' amazing wardrobes, we're giving away some of the actual clothes from The L Word!

From now until Sunday, March 15, you can enter to win one of four dresses worn by one of your favorite actresses from The L Word. There's a gorgeous Gucci number worn by Marlee Matlin, a strapless Dolce and Gabbana dress seen on Malaya Rivera Drew, a Tory Burch sequined dress that shimmered on Pam Grier, and a Paul Smith swing dress, which Leisha Hailey wore. To enter, all you have to do is log in to TeamSugar (if you're not a member, register now) and add a look of your own to any post on CelebStyle (see how after the jump). You'll be entered for every look you create, so there are plenty of chances to win! Be creative and check out the official rules here.

Click into any story ("look") on CelebStyle.com.
Once there, under the picture, you'll find a series of tags and several ways to play: You can comment, send an email, become a fan of the look ("love this"), or add a look of your own. Click either "add a look" link to get started.

On the next screen you'll be prompted to create a look. First, click on the "add image" button.

Now a new window will pop up. Leave the tab in "Search ShopStyle" and type in a product description for the item you're looking for (e.g. if you're looking for a black turtleneck, type in "black turtleneck.").

Once you've found the perfect item, click on the product and it will show up on your look page.

Repeat for every item that you'd like to include in your look.
When you're done, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "save look." Your look will now show up with the editor's look on the CelebStyle story (and you'll be entered into the contest!).

The L Word Ladies Gear Up For Last Hurrah...and Spinoff!

The sixth and final season of The L Word starts this Sunday. Yesterday, some of the stars and the show's executive producer, writer, and director Ilene Chaiken sat down at TCA to talk about what it has meant to them and what we can expect from these last eight episodes. While the mystery of who killed Jenny Schecter will be a storyline, it's not all we have to look forward to.

Oh, and about the photo below, Leisha Hailey joked that the what has gotten the most fan reaction is seeing Katherine Moenning in a dress - I must say, I totally agree, but on the panel she looked perfectly Shane. Warning: There were some The L Word spinoff details revealed, but I kept everything spoiler-y after the jump.

Chaiken on the show's run: "We had our ups and our downs and we hit our stride on the sixth season. It keeps getting better and better and we end on a high."
Chaiken on guest stars to expect this season: Lucy Lawless, Elizabeth Berkeley. "As always, some great guest stars and exciting actors we got to work with, but season six is about this core group of characters. We wanted to devote these last eight episodes to tell stories about these characters."
Chaiken on the decision to kill off Jenny: "We said 'What's the story we are going to tell this year?' and the decision to tell that story came out due to a lot of things. The trouble that Jenny has gotten in over the years, she's provoked everyone. All of the dialogue that goes on around the show - journalists, fans, etc - were probably resonating in there somewhere. Jenny has a lot of fans and she's the character people love to hate. She's provoked rage."
Jennifer Beals on her favorite fan moments: "One, a couple won a walk-on [part on the show] as an auction item. They were in their 60s and been together over 30 years and in the closet for longer that. They told us from watching the show that they were able to come out to their friends, family, people at work. Giving people encouragement to be their most authentic self made me feel really proud. Two, I recently got a letter from a young woman [who knows she is gay]. She was 16 and she said it was the loneliest time of her life. She said by watching the show it had saved her life because she had contemplated killing herself. Realizing that there were other people out there, part of a larger community and one day she might be able to take part, she was encouraged."

Laurel Holloman also talked about The L Word conventions around the world. Jennifer Beals revealed that she is working on a book of photos of the cast throughout the seasons filming and off set. Katherine on Shane's loves: "I think everyone believes that Shane is meant to be with Carmen. I always look at the Carmen situation as that one first love that got away. You'll never find something that will match that level of intensity. I think the Molly thing was fun and cute, I don't know how profound it was."
On the murder mystery plot: "In all honesty they kept it from us...we guessed it, but they didn't tell us until we had a meeting and sat us all down and revealed it. It's an intense way to go out, but it's television. It's campy, you have to take it for what it is."
At the Showtime Executive's panel, the CEO revealed that the spinoff plot will be that "one of the characters on The L Word goes to prison, so the show goes to prison. . . It’s a big group of characters and there’s a few lesbians in that group, but it isn't the exact make up of The L Word."
The pilot has been shot, but the execs have not seen a cut of it. If it does get picked up, Chaiken said that this season of The L Word will lead into the spinoff.
We know the show will be centered around Leisha Hailey's Alice. Hmmm, makes us wonder what will land her behind bars?

Showtime Teases The L Word's Final Season

It'll be just a couple of months now before the lovely ladies of The L Word return to Showtime for their sixth and final season. Of course, at least part of the show is living on in the form of a spinoff led by Leisha Hailey's Alice, but January marks the beginning of the last time these particular women will be together on screen.

There's not much to this teaser except for some intrigue and a whole lot of gorgeousness - I think each of the L Word ladies takes a turn giving the camera a steamy look. (Sadly, there's no Elizabeth Berkely yet.) But at least it's a good starting point for talking about your hopes for season six, which premieres Jan. 18 along with The United States of Tara and Secret Diary of a Call Girl. What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday

All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays. So each week in What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday, I sort through the best of the batch and tell you what to add to your queue. In addition to the selections below you can also add to your queue the kid-friendly adventure Journey to the Center of the Earth.

The L Word
Before the fifth season of Showtime's The L Word started this Summer, there were a lot of questions: Is Jenny still going to be so terrible? Is Shane settling down to make a family (uh, for real this time)? Will Alice stay with Tasha when she's shipped back to Iraq? Well, some of you may know the answers to these questions and some may not.

Now you can take home the entire season to catch up or relive the glory this Winter before the sixth and final season airs Sunday, Jan. 18. Special features include "The 2008 Wolfe Women's Party in Tampa" and "The Making of the Subaru Pink Ride."

Kit Kittredge: An American Girl
I bet there are a lot of little girls (and OK, big ones, too) that are super excited for the release of this movie, which stars Abigail Breslin as the intrepid budding journalist Kit Kittredge. Interestingly, the Depression-era feel-good flick is actually kind of timely now, given the current climate. Netflix describes the plot as such: "With Kit's father (Chris O'Donnell) away looking for a job, her mother (Julia Ormond) takes in boarders to make ends meet - and when the family savings are stolen during a series of robberies, Kit sets about finding the thief."

You'd think a movie like this one would have a special features bonanza attached to it but as it is, there's just an "American Girl Movie Trailer Gallery" featuring previews for direct-to-DVD American Girl movies.

Death Defying Acts
I noted over the Summer how strange it is that a movie with two big-name actors and an acclaimed director had almost zero publicity around its opening weekend. But that was the situation with Death Defying Acts, a story set in 1926 Britain where Harry Houdini (Guy Pearce) "enters into a passionate affair with a Scottish psychic (Catherine Zeta-Jones). The psychic and her daughter (Saoirse Ronan) attempt to con Houdini during a highly publicized séance to contact his mother whose death has haunted him for many years. However, all does not go to plan."

Despite the red flags, I still think it sounds pretty cool and I love that little Atonement actress so I'm definitely adding this to my list of movies to watch at home. Special features include commentary by director Gillian Armstrong and producer Marian MacGowan, and a making-of featurette.

Which L Word Lady Should Get a Spinoff?

At the TCA press tour, Showtime announced that the network is developing a spinoff of The L Word that would continue one woman's story after the show's final season airs. But nobody would say which character was being considered for the spinoff (they said not even the actress knows yet), and you know what that means: Time for some Internet speculation!

Just a few days ago, we got word that Elizabeth Berkley is joining the cast as an old love interest of Bette's - so would that give Bette more story to carry over into a spinoff? Or would another one of the ladies be a better choice? Cast your vote now!

Elizabeth Berkley to Join The L Word

It's been a good year for Saved by the Bell alumni. Mark-Paul Gosselaar's new show, Raising the Bar, begins airing on TNT in September. Mario Lopez has been everywhere from Broadway to MTV. And now Elizabeth Berkley - who's already appeared on CSI: Miami and hosted Step It Up and Dance - is joining the cast of The L Word.

Berkley will come on board for the show's final season, playing a former love interest of Jennifer Beals's character ("the straight girl that got away," according to Entertainment Weekly). No word yet on when she'll show up, but she is going to be around for multiple episodes. This isn't the first time Berkley and Beals have worked together: They also shared screen time in the 2002 film Roger Dodger.

Berkley seems like she should fit right in with the rest of the L Word ladies, and I'm excited to see what she can do with this role. I'm also looking forward to this much more than her other upcoming project, the (potentially ill-advised) Donnie Darko sequel. What say you?
