Neko Case's Middle Cyclone was one of the top 10 reasons I got excited about 2009, so when I saw the album was streaming on NPR's site ahead of its March 3 release, I had to take a listen.
My first impression in a nutshell: This is an album that's going to grow and grow on me. Case has said she wrote a bunch of love songs for the album, but it's important to note that the term probably means something different to her than it does to most people on the planet.

After weeks of waiting and watching, we finally got to hear some American Idol contestants actually, y'know, sing on Tuesday. Full songs and everything!
Unfortunately, so many of them were the wrong songs.

The Winter TCA press tour is all over, and I'm back catching up on all the things I missed while I was camped out in Universal City. I got some great interviews and previews of some new TV shows that I'll be sharing soon, but for now, I wanted to wrap up some of the best, worst, and most awkward moments from my days in LA:
- Wittiest Line: Jimmy Fallon at the session for his new stint on Late Night, after being asked whether he'd still have time to do romantic comedies: "If you want to meet me at the Empire State Building after this, I'll tell you the truth."
- Best Comeback: Amy Poehler after being asked whether she often wakes up in the morning and thinks something along the lines of, "Tina Fey, I'll show her": "Yes. And then I turn around and I wake her up, and we have breakfast together."
- Oddest Wording: ABC Entertainment President Steve McPherson calling Shonda Rhimes "one of the most, if not the most talented woman writer out there right now."

If you like British humor and get a kick out of old educational movies, then Adult Swim's new addition to its programming lineup is just for you. Starting this Sunday at 1 a.m., it will be airing 14 episodes of Look Around You, a hilarious BBC spoof on classroom science videos.
Each nine-minute episode of the show attempts to teach you about such things as water, math (or "maths," in British lingo), and sports, but it's almost guaranteed you'll learn nothing useful — or accurate — by watching.

Grant Show is one of those actors who's been a part of my life ever since I can remember having crushes. The Beverly Hills, 90210 episode where he waltzed in as Kelly Taylor's love interest/carpenter is clear as day to me, and it's also what launched the show's steamer, nuttier '90s spinoff, Melrose Place.
Well, the '90s moved on, and so did Show.

On this week's Fringe, we finally learn a little more about Olivia, whose private life has been mostly a big void until now. Also, a lot of living things explode, so if you haven't watched yet, I recommend you don't do so with food. Overall, I thought this was one of the stronger episodes of the series.

There's news from Comedy Central this morning that the network plans to revive the '70s hit The Gong Show. The original, hosted by TV personality (and possible CIA hitman) Chuck Baris, featured amateur performers showing off their talents — singing, dancing, fire-eating, juggling — for a panel of celebrity judges. Good acts got to complete their performances, but the bad ones got the gong.
